My husband is the son of a Henry Lucero, born in Pedras Negras( Eagle Pass). He was born in 1888. But that is almost all we know about him. My husband remembers that he has half brothers and sisters that lived in San Francisco when he was a child. His father worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad when he was growing up. He always believed that his mother was married to him, but we have not been able to find any confirmation of their marriage. If you have any information about him, and would be willing to share, it would be helpful to us who are trying to know more about him. Thank you. Connie Lucero

My grandmother (Rosa Lucero) was one of I believe 12 (some of the other children are Fidel, Maria, Sylveria, Lucy, Elvira, Domatilia, Eloisa). Her father was Abel Lucero. Her mother passed away during child birth and was (from what I understand) raised by Abel's sister so that he could work. I believe Abel's father is Roman Lucero and Guadalupe Gurule (sp?). Any information is appreciated. My email is tamarag136@gmail.com. Thank you!

It sounds like Dodi is on the right track. In the early days my dad used the Mormon chuch. He used the microfisches. He had to peel back generation after generation to find them. I know him and my aunt would celebrate the day they found a record thay. I indeed wish I could help you but this is how my dad started. The was before ancestry.com and the many records that have been translated. If you get stuck somewhere you could go that route. The Morman church will let you see their original actual handwritten records in Spanish in Spanish as it was done in those days including early 1900's. Also you mention they were of native American decent some of these people in the listed in the censuses and have and listed with the family by a different last name. You may also try http://www.hgrc-nm.org/surnames/surnames.htm this is The Great New Mexico Pedigree Database Project it has thousands of names. Remember also that the enumerators not only misspell names but gave them there own Chistianized verson one enumerator lists all the Manuels in town and Emmanual. Also I have seen different versions of Lucero. The seem to go the L right but somehow Luce. I wish you the best of luck again. Anita

I've been reading these posts, and while it's not my line, may I suggest that Romero is Lucero. They are simular sounding names and I found in my research that the census takers often misspelled the Spanish names...using R's for L's and R's for B's. V's were often B's. The accents would throw them off. I would not assume that a Jose Romero died and a Joe Lucero took his place, since the children's last names were changed as well. While sometimes a mother, (if the children were very young) would changed the last name to a new husband, it was more common not to do that.

Dear Marie Lara, I looked at your tree and did not see anything familier. I noticed that your Lucero line goes Northerward from New Mexico. Please don't give up trying we could tie in in the 1700's we have only have our immediate line. Our Lucero settled in 1598, moved in during the pueble revolt then came back with the requested and establish lands, in the 1700's thy had a land Grant in Cocchoti and then moved with the migration to San Mique del Bado and ended up with a land grant near Las Vegas New Mexico. Stay in touch! This took years of reaseach an is the greatest gift I could own and pass to the next generation. I will help you anyway I can.

I am sorry but I haven't researched into the Lucero side of the family, Jacinto Lucero married my husband's distant cousin, Juanita Apodaca and she met him in Las Cruces, NM. They later moved to Arizona.
Sincerely Written.
Norma L. Apodaca
My grandfather was David Lucero from Pueblo Colorado. I think I just found his father as M Jesus Lucero from New Mexico. His mother was Paulita Tafoya also from New Mexico. I am not sure when M Jeses died but I do show a census record when David was 16 with his mother taking in boarders.
