Willard Luck was the oldest of 3 children born to Felix Adolphus & Adelaide Luck. Felix was one of 6 children born to Green Luck and Nelsy Wimbush. Green Luck was the 2nd of 5 children born to a slave woman named Joanna on the Luck Plantation in Pittsylvania County, VA and fathered by slave Jerre of the nearby Terry Plantation. I am the great grandson of Green Luck's brother, Jerre Luck, and the grandson of his oldest daughter, Addie Lee Luck Williams. Jerre is the spelling of the name in the early Censuses. I would be happy to provide you with as much of the Luck/Terry genealogy as I know.

I can check on your people in the information I have but I need to know if your set is white or black and do you have a tree on Ancestry?
Hello I don't know if you are still looking for info but if you are I have tons!! I am also a Great Grandchild of Herman Luck. Our Grandparents were brother and sister. I am the granddaughter of Amil Luck. Your Grandma Frieda was my great Aunt. Luckily my grandmother Mary (Amils wife) was an avid geneologist. Herman and Anna came over on the SS Baltic in 1914, and if I am not mistaken with your Grandma Frieda in tow. I have more info on my family tree as well. If you want more email me at audrimcnally@gmail.com

Sorry: Am not familiar with those names. The Lucks I have come across lived in Simcoe county, Ontario, Canada, and were some of the early Lucks there in the 1800's. The came from England. Ann Luck married a Partridge. Alice Alvira married a Caldwell.
My GGG grandmother was Nancy Luck, and she is rumored to be the daughter of Overton Luck and Katherine Collins. She was born around 1808 and married Nicholas Wilkerson. Have you come across her in your research?

Do you know if Overton and Katherine had any other children?

Edward Luck / Jane E. Caller are my gg-grandparents, through their son Samuel. I do not show anyone in the tree that would have the initials MF Luck either. This Edward is the one with a sister named Anne who married Charles Partridge.

On a separate note -- does anyone know what became of the either the older brother named William for this Edward and Anne, or for their aunt (Also named Anne? I show William as born in 1797, but no record after that; and that Anne was born on 26 Nov 1775, but no record after that for her either.

Thanks, Fred Luck

If you mean the Edward Luck (there are more than one Edward) married to Jane Elphinstone Caller, there is no M.F Luck, but there is a daughter, Mary Eliza Luck, born 1832, Crown Hill.d 1916. She married Thomas Drury.
Don't know whether this is the person you are looking for.

Georgiana

Hi

Your posted your message on the Sussex message board, but since no mention of that location was included in your post it was moved to the LUCK surname board.

You will have more success if you'll post about one surname at a time on the appropriate surname or location board. Be sure to include a bit of information that you already have about that particular surname (BMD dates, locations, etc.) and be clear about what information you're seeking.

Good luck!

Have now found that Walter did not 'die at sea' so much for that bit of romance. He died right here in Auckland New Zealand on 10 July 1965. If anybody knows of any other children or relatives in New Zealand, apart from the Ferris family could they please contact us. Next of kin was given as Mr. Sparrow.

Luck - UK

Hi

Any help very gratefully received. I am very new to researching my family tree - and am not sure if I have taken an incorrect branch with my research.

Here's what I have so far ... many apologies for the long list ;-)

John Philpot Beauchamp (b. Essex 1907-1980) - Grandfather
Frances Mary Gransby (b. Barnet/Arkley 1909-1991) - Grandmother
Arthur David Gransby (b. Arkley 1872-1959) - Gt Grandfather
Annie Attwood (b. Needingworth 1880) - Gt Grandmother
George Gransby (b. Barnet 1844-1901) - Gt x2 Grandfather
Mary Ann LUCK (b. Barnet 1845) - Gt x2 Grandmother
William LUCK (b. North Mimms 1811) - Gt x3 Grandfather
Mary Kirby (b. Barnet 1812-1901) - Gt x3 Grandmother
Thomas LUCK (b. Great Munden 1783-1873) - Gt x4 Grandfather
Sarah Osborne (b. Great Munden 1780-1838) - Gt x4 Grandmother
William LUCK (b. Great Munden 1740) - Gt x5 Grandfather
Mary Stiles (b. Hertford 1747) - Gt x5 Grandmother

From here on, this is where I think I may have gone wrong:

Thomas LUCK (b. Shoreditch or Great Munden ? 1704-1765) - Gt x6 Grandfather
Jane Newman (b. Braughing 1719) - Gt x6 Grandmother

I have found Thomas Luck (1704) as being Born/Baptised in St Leonard Shoreditch, London - on the Baptism record it states that he is Thomas of ?(father unknown) and Ellin Luck (but can't find any other information) but then on other records it states him as being born in Great Munden ... which led me to:

Thomas LUCK (b. Great Munden 1675-1756) - Gt x7 Grandfather
Susan Hutchings (b. Ardeley, Herts 1679) - Gt x7 Grandmother
Thomas LUCKE (b. Hertfordshire 1641) - Gt x8 Grandfather
Mary Lawrence (b. Great Munden 1641) - Gt x8 Grandmother

Once again ... apologies for the long list ... but it would be fantastic to know if I am on the right lines.

Many thanks in anticipation of any assistance
Kindest regards,
Michelle

I am in touch with my classmate Hud Williams who is supposed to put me in contact with the Luck family historian for your part of the Luck family. I have all of this information you provided as well. I am trying to put all of the missing pieces together and even if the Lucks are not all related there are still some close connections and a possibility that the entire bloodline is connected. I would like to go back further than my great great great grandfather circa 1825.....geneology is my passion!!! Thanks a lot for responding all...Renita I am still working on your tree:)

Re: The Luck Family of VA (Black)

I am the great grandson of Jerre Luck. From the names you mention, I doubt if my Luck Family is related to yours, but I can provide you with what information I have regarding the origin of one of the black Luck Families. Apparently there was a Terry Plantation very close to the Luck Plantation both properties located near the border between Halifax and Pittsylvania Counties. The owners of both these plantations accoding to the values recorded in the census were relatively wealthy and therefore capable of "owning" several slaves. My family forebear was named Jerre on the Terry Plantation. During slavery he went over to the Luck Plantation, "jumped over the broom" and thus married Joanna of the Luck Plantation. To this union were born 5 children: Lemon, Green, Jerre (as spelled in the census), Josephine, and Daniel Preston. Children born during slavery became the "property" of the plantation on which they were born regardless of the father. Following emancipation former slaves having no last named adopted the the name of the plantation on which they previously resided. Thus these 5 offspring became Lucks though they were fathered by Jerre of the Terry Plantation. In my case, Jerre Luck, following emancipation married Louvenis Smith and had 6 children. The oldest child, Addie Lee Luck, married Pemberton Williams who are my paternal grandparents. I have a chart of all of the 559 known descendents and spouses of Jerre Terry. I will be happy to send you this chart if you like, but none of the descendents match the names you provided and I assume the descendents in which you are interested were all derived from other slaves on the Luck Plantation unrelated to those of my forbears.

I just happened upon this post after a search for Luck surname origins, and after reading this I recalled my dad saying that he had traced our Luck relatives back to Virginia in the early 1600's. I will have to get more information from him to see if any of these names match. Thanks for posting!
