I have one of the booklets also. I would be happy to send you a copy of the letter your mother wrote. She wrote it to help my sister and me with a sopohmore HS English class assignment. Your father told her about life in the 8 sided house and she wrote it down for him as he was not in good health at the time. Besides the article your mother wrote about the 8 sided house, I THINK I have a picture and story my father did when he worked for the Muscatine Journal.

I am the daughter of Robert Ray Luckey, and grand-daughter of William Roy Luckey and Beulah Harbison.

I would love to go to the reunion but am now living in New York, moved from Washington, Iowa in 2004. My son who lives in NH) is getting married in Muscatine October 20th. Making 2 trips so close together is not possible. Please give my regards to the Luckeys who know me (Carol Yancey) or my mother, Laura Baker Luckey. Please let the Luckey descendants in Washington know that my mother lives near us in a senior apartment complex with in-home care. She was very ill last fall and it took a toll on her but now she not on any prescription medications!

Hopefully we can keep in touch. Please let me know if you ever find any information on the Luckeys before they came to the US. I think I have traced the family back to a William Luckey in Scotland but it ends there.

My email is luckey.carol@gmail.com.

Sorry there was not a connection. I do not know the James Luckey you had contact with, but he must be a cousin of mine. The author of that book is Cindy Juhl. She is listed as Cynthia Sue Taylor, daughter of Russell Eugene Taylor (found on about page 26). If you ever trace the Luckey's back to Scotland or Ireland, would you let me know? I have traced our branch back to a William Luckey born in Scotland but everything stops there.

hello, since my posts in March, I have discovered more info on my Joseph. His Obit, in Kokomo, showed his birthday as May 19, 1818. If that is true, William Nelson Luckey would have been 11 when my Joseph was born. Several years ago, a man named James Luckey, in Iowa, sent me a copy of the book on James & Nancy Speed Luckey's descendents. There's no connection to my Joseph. I beleive that my Joseph was a son of Samuel, but I have not been able to document this. Unfortunately, the obit does not mention his parents. This would make him a nephew of James & Nancy Luckey. Apparently, my Joseph stayed way below the radar until his marriage in 1847 to Catherine Lee.

I believe that your Joseph Luckey was the son of William Nelson Luckey,(Born 31/Oct/1807 in Athens, Ohio; died 15 Apr 1892 Eugene, Lane County, Ohio) and Nancy Leasure (married 13 Mar 1831). William was a son of James Luckey and Nancy Speed. Joseph also had a brother named William Nelson Luckey. A cousin (in Washington, Iowa) did a very extensive family tree (44+ pages) several years ago. I will try to put more info from her work on Luckey Family Tree. Feel free to check my tree in a few more days or weeks.

A cousin in Washington, Iowa, compiled a detailed booklet entitled "The decendants of James Luckey and Nancy Speed Luckey" I will try to get in touch with her to get her permission to download some of the family history information or to find out if she can be contacted to get a copy of her family history book. According to this information, The (William) Luckeys moved from Penn to Ohio when James was 15 years old. He married Nancy Speed 7 August 1803 at Middleton, Washington County, Ohio.

I am also a decendant of Joseph Luckey and Nancy Speed. I have an exerpt from Portrait and Biological Album of Louise County, Iowa 1889. It is an article about Joshua Luckey and his wife, Maragaret Mead. However it contains information about Joseph Luckey and his father William Luckey, and an uncle Samuel Luckey. Would you like me to scan and email this to you? If I can figure out how to do it, I will try to download it and attach it to all three of these Luckeys. My family tree on Ancestry.com is Luckey famiy tree. I am not sure if I have the correct info (from Ancestry.com) From Willim back. Can't find much info at all before Luckeys came to US. Can you?

A Samuel Luckey is also included in my family history, as an uncle of my great-great-grandfather, Joshua Luckey. Per a family history included in "Portrait and Biographical Album of Louisa County, Iowa, 1889", this Samuel was the son of William Luckey abt 1730 to 1806, who was an iimigrant "of irish decent" and early settler in Penn. (However, per Ancestory.com search, William Luckey and his wife were from Scotland.) According to this source, one of his sons, Samuel, "was captured by the Indians and held captive for about ten years, but did not succeed in finding his father's family until he was about twenty-four years of age." If you think this Samuel might be an ancestor, I would be glad to scan and send this info to you.

I found them in the 1860 census in Huntington Indiana w children (Eliza (1840,Thomas(1843),John W.(1846/47),Nathan(1849/50) and older son Robert(1834). Do you know of an Older son(born 1823) when they lived in Ohio?? I also found them in the 1850 census in Clinton,Ohio(?) w/ Rachel(1829),WilliamO.(1831),Robert(1834),Jonah(1835)Martha(1836),Barnabas(1839). my direct email is luckey_j@bellsouth.net Would love to compare notes

He was 16 when freed by the Englishman who saw him at an indian trading post in Canada. He was 24 by the time he returned home. His family moved to eastern Ohio( Washington or Monroe County. I beleive my ancester,Joseph Luckey, was descended from Samuel. I would love to swap Luckey stories and see if we connect.
John Luckey

There is an article about William Luckey and Elizabeth Leasure and their Oregon trail trip in the 1989 Lane County Historical Quarterly. I am descended from their son William and his 1st wife Lucinda and their daughter Emma Capitola Luckey. She married Mathias McManis and they moved to Seattle where they had three kids, including my great grandmother. I wrote messages on here earlier but never got a reply and found out a lot more since. Still would like to go further back on the Luckey family than I have. William was the son of James Luckey and Nancy Speed and that is as far back as I have on the Luckey side.

New DNA New DNA Project for the Hillhouse/Hillis family that would include the Luckie surname.

We are pleased to announce a new DNA project for the Hillhouse and Hillis surnames open to anyone who is a proven Hillhouse/Hillis descendant or who carries this surname and cannot get past a brick wall.

We have a large group of researchers who have a great deal of documentation that may help others. Several have taken the Y-DNA test, which is proving to be most beneficial.

We are finding that we are exact matches to males of the Ogg, Hogg, Hogue, and Church surnames. The haplotype for these men is I1; their place of origin is primarily Scotland with some descendants moving to Ireland before migrating to America where their DNA results are being revealed.

We are specifically searching for a male descendant with a proven or suggested paper trail to Rev. James Hillhouse who arrived in CT in 1710. A test result from any one of his proven descendants will allow others carrying that surname or the anglicized spelling Hillis, to know if they are also the descendants of Abraham Hillhouse of Scotland and Ireland.

Samuel Hillhouse/Hillis, Sr. married Anne Luckey. If you are a direct female descendant of Anne Luckey/Luckie your mt-dna could reveal information about the origins of theis lineage as well.

Please contact me or the Hillhouse/Hillis DNA Project at http://www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspx?Group=Hillhouse... if you are considering joining the project and taking the Y-DNA or the mtDNA test to help preserve the Hillhouse/Hillis lineages.

Thank you,
Donna Hillis Crosby

My Sam's are very popular guys. The oldest Sam in the line was on the Rowan County, NC Census in 1790. He had a son named James born in AL in 1825, who had a son named Sam born in GA in 1845. James, his wife, Matilda and their younger children moved to Texas. Their son Sam went to FL and there begins the history of Luckey's in FL.

Would love to communicate my email is mmitww@yahoo.com

I would love to see a copy of this book. I am a descendant of William Nelson Luckey, B 1807 Athens Co Ohio married to Elizabeth Leasure in 1831, Ft Wayne, Indiana. They traveled on the Oregon Trail in 1848 to Eugene Oregon where he lived out his days. William and Elizabeth had eleven children, one son born in 1834 in Fort Wayne was named after his father William Nelson Luckey and would have been about 14 or so on the Oregon Trail. He married Lucinda Barrett Anderson in 1854. Her husband had died on the Oregon trail leaving her a widow with a baby in Oregon. I know William Nelson Luckey Sr. Is listed as a son of James Luckey and Nancy Speed Luckey but I know nothing else about them or their family and would love to learn more. I think some other extended Luckey Family may have come to Oregon by ship around South America but I am not sure.
