Perhaps you can assist me in my research.

My Uncle ERNEST WOOD married a PHYLLIS LUXTON in 1941 in Plymouth.
They had a child Joyce E Wood, but Ernest died in 1942.
I think that Joyce married Hardman in 1957 and they had a child Nigel J Hardman in 1957.
Would love to find them - I could tell Joyce a little more about her Father.

Luxton was the maiden name of my grandmother Florence and I have been able to trace back to a Richard Luxton of Plymouth, Devon born c.1811 who married Elizabeth Rice born c.1813. Has anyone any information on this side of the Luxtons. I believe he had a brother called Robert.

Hi Adam. I am your favourite Aunt Maggs. Just found your request on ancestry. i've joined for a yr. so who knows. Plenty of people researching Alice at the moment most of whom we know - so that isn't going to get us anywhere. Interesting though i found a person researching LUXTON's whose family tree was McCool. and there was a Fanny McCool (great name) on the passenger list with Alice. Iv'e emailed some days ago but so far no joy. Who knows maybe they were related and came out together. Have found quite a few of Maud Luxton's rellies searching too and their version of Alice is that she was frequented by an English sailor in Melb. but never knew who he was though assumed he was around for some time. G'Day Robert,
All this is totally new to me but I am trying to locate a very good friend of mine, that I served in the RN with, on board HMS Eagle in 1964/66.
I came across this website and noted that you had a family tree of the Luxtons.
John Luxton use to live in the Portsmouth area and I expect he is in the late 70's age group.
Much appreciate any assistance in tracing "me old mate".

Hi Richard, I'm also decended from Robert Luxton, i've found a few family trees online that have his forefathers as symonis, richard then william born 1545, the only info i found on williams father is a Luxton (no first name) born 1520 who bore these children

I cannot identify the names you mention. My family was almost exclusively in London, but I know that other, more significant lines can be traced to Devon.

To make sure we are on the same LUXTON family line I am tracing the following: (My Great-Great-grandfather)Robert Luxton DOB 1840 England,DOD Unknown in Wales or England. His father; Robert Luxton 1814-1874 England and Robert's (DOB 1840) Grand-father,Peter Luxton 1774 England (unconfirmed).
Robert Luxton (DOB 1840) moved from England to Bleanvon, Wales with his family. His family remaind in Bleanvon, Wales and he disappeared never to return.

There is a record of the marriage of Robert in 1868 to Emily Goodall of Reading - Reading, Berkshire (Bradfield, Reading 6 191) born abt 1845.

Robert was abt 31 when when he married Emily - I have not got the marriage cert yet (but is on the list, which is costing a furtune)so don't know if this was a second marriage, but going by the census information there were no children brought with him.

I have just bought from the Devon F.H.S. the C069 - BRUSHFORD - Baptism Books (1813-1839) hopeing we can confirm his birth was actually Brusford as I do have a record of another Robert Luxton (DOB 1837) born at Coldridge about 2 miles as the grow fly. The name 'Robert' seems to be the family trade mark as every famly had at least one per generation.

The Robert Luxton in my Luxton line was born 1814, Devon, England, DOD April 21, 1874. He married Elizabeth Dare DOB 1814, DOD 1887, England. They had a son Robert Luxton DOB 1840, Angersleign, Somerset, England. DOD unknown he left his family in Wales and I have not been able to find him to date. The forgoing details have yet to be confirmed through Birth and Death Certificates. The only similarity we share is son Robert(DOB 1840) and his wife Harriett Fackrell (DOB 1941) had some kind of falling out with her family and left England moving their family to Wales never to return to England. This part of the story is confirmed by a few descendants of Robert Luxton (DOB 1840) through Ancestry.com connections; but as to the details we are all looking for that link. I am not sure the son Robert Luxton is the link you are searching for.

Your Mary Ann Luxton was the daughter of John Luxton & Ann Edger (both born England). She was born in Bowmanville, Durham County, Ontario, Jan. 26, 1861, and died there on June 15, 1919. She is on the 1881 Ontario Census, as Mary Ann Luxton, 20, shown with her parents & siblings living in Durham West County, Darlington Twp.

I could not find Mary Ann & Thomas Nichol's marriage; however, Thomas Nichols was born in England on June 5, 1859 & died in Bowmanville, Ontario, on Jan. 8, 1904. The 1901 Ontario Census said that he immigrated to Ontario in 1868.

Hi Carol, my grandmother was Mary Elizabeth Luxton, who lived in Hatherleigh (often reigestered as Okehampton) as I did. Her brother, Uncle Frank (Fancis Luxton) lived in Tavistock. My grandmothers parents were Nora Stidwell & James Luxton all born near Hatherleigh, hope this is of help if not get back to me anyway as I know quite a lot about the inhabitants of Hatherleigh which may help.

Hinot sure of the connection but my grandmother was Mary Luxton -her father James Luxton married Norah Stidwell. All lived in and around Hatherleigh wher I grew up, if you look at my family tree in the name of Hockin all the info I have is there.

Hi, I am descended from James Luxton & and Norah Stidwell, James born in Beaworthy Devon 1850 -living Hurdle Bridge, Devon 1891 Census, their daughter Mary Elizabeth Luxton was my grandmother. not sure if Harriet Luxton b 1833 is related to James. I was brought up in Hatherleigh less than 15 miles from Holsworthy so there probably is a connection. i know some Luxtons from Canada visited my father( now deceased) several years ago. I would be delighted with any info you have, I don't think my family tree is completely updated with all the info i have on the Luxton side. I have just come across a couple of names in connection with some info I have. Gloria Jackson,(Luxton) Ontario & Agnes Kerslake (Luxton) will look further into this. I noticed the name of Harriet Luxton b. 1837. She married John Courtis in London, Ontario. (John was born in 1833 in Devon in or near Holsworthy. He came to Ontario with his parents and siblings around 1850.
Their first children were Anna Maria b. 1862, Elizabeth, John b.1864,Clara, b.1871, William, b.1877 and Albert b.1874.
John married Eliza Heck. They became the parents of my father's mother Muriel, so Harriet was my great-greatgrandmother.
I have some photos of Harriet, including one taken on her 85th birthday with her son John, g-daughter Muriel, and my father, Keith Courtis Sutton.
Let me know if you would like more information on these Luxton descendants - if you are still researching after all this time!

I am looking for information on Robert Luxton (1814)his birth is a bit of a toss up, as the 1861 and 1871 both have the place of birth listed as different places. He married Elizabeth Dare (1814-1887).They were married in Trull Somerset and Robert died 1874 in Trull Somerset. They had several children, Mary, Maria, Robert, John, etc.

I am looking for information on my great, great grandmother. Your information seems to fit. Her name was Mary Jane Luxton McArthur, born Feb. 8, 1841 in England and died Oct. 4, 1920, in Grand Valley( may be referred to as Luther or Wellington), Ontario. She lived there from whenever her family immigrated to Canada. Her marriage to John McArthur was about 1857. Her mother was Jane (Pike) born about 1818 and her father John Luxton born about 1817. They both lived in Grand Valley as well. Other siblings of Mary Jane are Elazabeth, Amelia, John, and Sarah, I believe.
