You have helped me greatly and never knew it until now! :)

My name is Matthew Fennell, and my great-grandfather Michael Fennell married your grandmother's sister Delia Judge, and I am a descendant of their son, James Fennell (my grandfather). I happened upon your family tree on ancestry.com and now have solid knowledge of Delia's siblings and parents that I never knew before. Thank you so very much!

I wish I knew more about the Judges and Lydons so I could help you out, but seeing as how I've just discovered this I'm afraid I know nothing more right now. If I ever find anything, I hope to be able to let you know!

If you ever want to email me: mjfennell17. Hotmail.com.

He would have worked on a farm in Grange, Tuam, when I knew him many years ago before he
emmigrated to England in the 1960's. Here's hoping you may
see this message.
Catherine Corless.

There may be some distant connection, but I haven't found anything back far enough to find that. The earliest of my great uncles to come to the US was in the 1890s. Any Lydons that were here prior to that may have been their aunts, uncles, or cousins. My great grandfather's name was John Lydon. I'm not sure exactly where he was born, but it was around 1832. He served in the British 50th Foot Regiment for many years, and after his retirement settled near Oughterard, County Galway, where my grandfather and his siblings were born. He died in 1915 there. Perhaps your Mary Lydon was his sister or cousin, but that is just speculation.

WOW thats more Lydon data than I've ever gotten before!
Thanks for posting it.
We may have a connection but I'll have to review my
info to be sure. My Mary Lydon was married to Patrick Thornton. I don't know where they married. I can trace the
Thorntons back to Boston abt 1855. Have you seen any Lydons
living with or near the Thorntons in Boston abt that time?
They died in Virginia City Nv. Patrick in 1879 and Mary in
1874. Mary actually died in a hosp. in Ca. but buried in
Virginia City. Nv directories and census for that time period
shows a Patrick Lydon. On headstones and obits the Thorntons
and Lydons make a point of saying "Native of Co.Galway" While
other Thorntons in VC display "Native of Co Mayo"
Hi Paula,
I came across this post and am very interested in the Lydons of County Galway. My grandfather, Thomas Lydon (1885-1960), was the youngest child of John (1832?-1916) and Honor Bahn Lydon. His family lived on Cannon Island in Lough Corrib, near Oughterard. My great uncles, Pat, John, and Andrew came to the US early in the 20th century. Great Uncle Joe emigrated to England, and I have made contact with his grandchildren. My great uncles Martin and Teddy and great aunts Mary and Maria lived most, if not all of their lives on the island. If you know anything about this branch of the Lydon family, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you, Mary Lydon Murphy

I believe your John Lydon was an older brother to my grandfather Thomas Lydon(1885-1960). They grew up on an island in Lough Corrib, near Oughterard in County Galway. There were nine children in their family. Mary, Maria, Teddy, and Martin lived their entire lives on the island. Their brother, Joseph, emigrated to England and raised his family of five children there. I have recently gotten in touch with several of Joe's grandchildren from England and from the Boston area. Four brother came to this country. Andy died in Boston during the Flu Epidemic of 1918, never married. Patrick, was the oldest brother. He lived in Boston until his death around 1939 or 1940. He and his wife had a son, Thomas, and a daughter, Katherine (married name Feeney). Nobody I have been in touch with knows anything about this branch after Uncle Pat's death. My great uncle, John Lydon and his wife had a only child named Joseph, who was the father of about 15 children. Joe died at a football game in or around 1959, at approximately 50 years of age. They lived in Jamaica Plain and were in touch with our cousins, the Hanleys for a number of years, but eventually lost touch. My grandfather, Thomas Lydon, came originally to Boston, and lived there for several years before eventually settling in Williamsport, PA, where my dad, Joseph Patrick Lydon, was born in 1924. My dad has been quite interested to hear about what became of his cousins and their children, as am I. If you are related to this bunch of Lydons, please let me know.

NY Lydons - sisters

I am looking for any connections to sisters Bridget and Nora Lydon who came to NY in early 1900s, around 1915 or so. Nora lived in Lawrence (Long Island) as a maid for the Fox family for a brief time. Nora is the sister of Bridget Lydon and also Jane Lydon Joyce, who is my great-grandmother. I believe they were all born in Tourmakeady, Co. Mayo, but Jane married a Joyce in Liverpoolwhere their daughter Bridget Joyce was born (she is my late grandmother b. 1896 d. 1963). I think Jane Lydon Joyce died at a young age, then my great-grandfather Joyce remarried. His wife had triplets (don't know the names)& I think they were all boys. Their birthdate would be early 1900s.

I would go to your local LDS Family History Centre and start looking up church records from Spiddal and slowly go thriough them all until you see what looks like your family.Try and narrow your search before you start because that always helps.Did they come to America with friends or other family? If they did, take note of their names as well and that helps in the search. Lydon is a common name in Galway....makes it harder but you will get there in the end. Mine came from Oranmore to New Zealand. I found them in the 1901 census and from the information there was able to trace the family through local church records back another couple of generations.
Good luck

Dear Robin,
My Uncle Tom Lydon told me that he found that our ancestors came from Spiddal. He did not give me solid documentation.
However using US census records I found my great grandfather Timothy Lydon born in about 1850 in Baltimore, MD his elder brother had been born about 1847 in Ireland. So I hypothesize that the young family left Ireland in 1848 and moved to Baltimore. There were many children in America. How do I find out if the Spiddal claim of my uncle Tom was correct. Best regards.

Hi,
I am looking for information on my ancestors.
Mark Lydon was born in 1850 in Ohio or possibly Tenn. He died in 1915. He was married to Honora Nina Mahoney who was born about 1854 and died in 1894. After her death, he married Catherine Connolley. I am specifically looking for information on Mark's family. I believe his fathers name was Valtros Lydon (from Ireland or England) and his mother's name may of been Mary. Their births may of been around the 1820's. I heard a family story that Mark's father and several of his brothers died in a fishing boat accident. This may help if any of this sounds familiar. I'm also trying to find some of Mark's siblings information. The family eventually ended up in Pennsylvania, nears Pittsburgh. This is were many of my relatives are from. Hope to hear from anyone that can help! thank you..

While searching for my own ancestor’s grave at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Canton, MA, I came across a number of tombstones with parish/county information in Ireland. Given the lack of records available for Irish ancestors, I thought I’d record what I had found, on the off chance that this is someone’s ancestor waiting to be found.

I photographed the stones and am posting the details here, as I best I can make them out.

If this information interests you, send me a message, and I will send the original photograph to you.

B~

Tombstone Inscriptions:

(oops, cut off the top line!)
in memory of his beloved wife
ELLEN LYDON
Who died
March 24, 1854
Aged 21 years
A native of the Co.
“The Jackson Examiner” (Independence, MO) Friday, February 12, 1915

KILLED AT LEE’S SUMMIT

Mike LYDON, a stranger, died in the Missouri Pacific station at
Lee’s Summit at 9:30 o’clock this morning [sic] as a result of
injuries suffered an hour before.

He and a brother, who are homeless wanderers, tried to board an
eastbound train. In the effort Mike lost his footing and fell under
the wheels. One of his legs and the other foot were cut off.

He was treated by Dr. Cleveland HALL and Dr. SWANEY, but his
case was hopeless. The county coroner was notified. The
brother did not actually see the victim fall, but others about the
depot did. The body will be taken in charge and buried by the
city of Lee’s Summit in the local cemetery.

======================================================
Per death certificate:
Died on 10 February 1915
Born 1866, County Mayo, Ireland
Father: Martin LYDON
Mother: Mary KELLY
Info provided by: Martin LYDON (probably his brother)

======================================================
(I have no connection with this family but I'd appreciate
knowing if you found this posting helpful.)
johnobrien@kc.rr.com
======================================================

neirbo10
Not my Grandfather. His brothers were John, Thomas and a sister Bridget.

Thomas stayed in Fauleens which is on the shore of Lough Gara in was originally in Co Roscommon and is now part of County County Sligo.

My Great Grandfather Thomas Lydon was born in Westport, County Boyle. But all I have is his approx date of Birth, but no more family info on him. He was born in 1813, and this is from a Census that I have copies.

Thomas's daughter is still alive and living in Tuam. She is in her 70's and knows very little about our Lydon family.

We visted the family farm about 7 years ago. And have kept in touch with her and other local people in the town of Monasteradeen.

I see Martin's name mentioned all over the place. But cannot connect it to my Lydon's. The records just don't go back that far. They were all destroyed.

William came over in 1898.

Julia was responsible for bringing over a number of Naughton/Norton girls from Inveran, Galway. She is listed as their cousin. I don't think she married but remained a maid/servant for families in Boston and possibly Hingham.

I can't find William on 38 A Street after 105.

Any help would be just great!

Thanks,

Kroghm

Hi,It's nice to read a post from someone who I hope may be able to help me! I was just wondering do you know the name of the lady who your grandfather's brother 'Michael Lydon' married? I presume she would be your great aunt then? I have read on other sites that he married one of the Waldron sisters and that your grandfathers other brother Jack Lydon married Mary Waldron. I have read that the 8 siblings were: Thomas, James, Andrew, Bridget, Margaret, Mary, Michael and Jack.

If you could shed any light on Michael Lydon and any children he had that would be very helpful as we have been researching it for a while now and it looks like he is a relation of my family. Catherine Lydon is the link in my family and we are trying to figure out her parents names, suspecting they are Michael Lydon and ? Waldron or possibly one of the other siblings. We know they came from County Mayo and some siblings moved over to England while the rest went to America. Any help would be very much appreciated! Thank you

I'm not sure of all his siblings names but I know there was James, Andrew and Michael, Bridget, etc.... He was also a cousin of Gene Tunney, world champion boxer of 1923 who defeated Jack Dempsey! Yup, he was a cool guy, escaped Ireland when he was 16 by jumping on a boat that landed in Manhatten where he boxed to win turkeys to eat..he's where I got my red hair from :) He settled in Philadelphia, married my grandmom and made lots of offpsring.
