Are you still up to help? I am looking for the parents of three brothers. John Liles b 1790, Amos Liles b 1794 and William Liles b 1803. Amos married Elizabeth Couch b 1796. They started out in Spartenburg, SC listed in Wills and Estate papers. They 1830 Us Census puts them in Lincoln Co Tenn dist 9. In the 1850 census we find them in Lauderdale Co, Ala. We have most all of what we need, just not the Liles that came from Ireland to North Carolina and later moved to South Carolina.

Thanks whether you can help or not!

Greta Beach

Does any have or know how to obtain copies of the Bible records that Mrs. Q. W. It seems that these are the records that support most of the information posted on Maher (b. 1737) and Elizabeth. I would like to have copies if possible.
I've done some research on him, but don't know that what I have will add much.

The 1820 Census shows Dennis M. Lyles in the Piscataway District of Prince Georges County, with five slaves - two males under age 14, two males age 14-26, one female under age 14.

Dennis died 16 August 1828.

Excerpt from the "Broad Creek Historic District Preservation Planning Study"

"Others from the very large slave force of the Lyles family have not yet been traced, although several descendants of Rachel Loggins, freed by Dennis Magruder Lyles' 1828 will, remained in the immediate area, farming the land as freedmen until at least 1850."

I don't have a copy of his Will, so don't know if it named others.

His wife, Ariana, was living in Washington, D.C. by 1840. Not able to access the 1840 Census page, but the 1850 and 1860 Slave Census shows she had several.

1850 U.S. Federal Census - Slave Schedules
Arcunna Lyles
West of 7th St Turnpike, Washington, District of Columbia
60 Female Black
60 Male Black
50 Male Black
45 Male Black
23 Male Black
23 Female Black
20 Female Black
15 Female Black
15 Female Black
15 Male Black
12 Male Black
6 Male Black
5 Female Black
Source Information: Ancestry.com. 1850 U.S. Federal Census - Slave Schedules

1860 U.S. Federal Census - Slave Schedules
Arianna Lyles
First Division, Washington D.C., District of Columbia
70 Male Black
70 Male Black
70 Female Black
50 Male Black
50 Female Black
40 Female Black
35 Male Black
30 Male Black
29 Female Black
27 Male Mulatto
25 Female Black
25 Female Black
24 Male Black
21 Male Black
16 Male Black
16 Female Black
13 Female Black
5 Male Black
3 Male Black
2 Female Black
Source Information: Ancestry.com. 1860 U.S. Federal Census - Slave Schedules

Cheers, Michael
Kent Island, Maryland
Descendant of Thomas West Lyles, kin to Dennis Magruder Lyles and Thomas Claggett Lyles, just don't know how yet.

I would like to communicate with any experts on Dennis Lyles and his slaves, or anyone who has done some research.

I am writing an article about a group of slaves including Easter Lyles aged 25 in 1835 and her two children John and Henrietta who may have originated on the Lyles plantation.
They ended up in Bermuda on the slave ship Enterprise. Long story.
Another slave on this ship was Julia Reeder, aged 25. Reeder seems to be a name that figures into the Lyles family.

Jessie Moniz
bdapooh@hotmail.com

Re: Robert James Lyles, Sumner Co TN

Adding to you 1850 Census info is the data shown on the 1860 Census, Sumner Co, TN: Mary R Lyle is found as head of HH#691 along with seven of her and Robert James' children. Also living with her is Julia Lyles, age 68, born Maryland. This does suggest an interesting relationship between the two ladies. Robert James Lyles (Mary R's husband) is not listed, he died in 1859 (ref. 1860 Mortality Schedule).

The 1870 Census, Sumner Co, TN, shows Mary R Lyle, 5 children, two other people, but Julia Lyles is not listed.

Who was Julia Lyles born about 1792 in Maryland? If, just if, she is the mother of Robert James Lyles who is the father? What am I missing?

Based on the reported birth dates of the other reported children of James Amaziah Lyles & Mary Ann Murden (& their marriage date)something is amiss.

I research James Lyles (~1774 / ~1823) & also Manasseh Lyles (1770-1810), or at least try to.

Jim Liles

I wonder if Robert Amaziah Lyles 1823 marriage to Mary Ann Murden was:
a: registered well after they started living together?;
b: a second marriage, after being divorced?;
c: or perhaps he's not the father of Robert James Lyles?

Might Julia/Juliet (Lyles) actually be the mother of Robert James Lyles?

In the 1850 Census, she is enumerated only three houses away from Robert.

1850 District 9, Sumner, Tennessee
8/8
Robert J.
Julia Lyles, b~1792, Maryland

On the 1860 Census, Sumner Co, TN, we find Julia Lyle, age 68 (born 1792), born in Maryland. I have many Lyles/Lyle/Lile/Liles in my files but I do not have her. I'm assuming Lyle (Lyles) is her married name. She is living in the household of Mary R. Lyle(s), the widow of Robert James Lyle(s). Who is Julia Lyle? Anyone know anything about her?

On the 1850 Census, Sumner Co, TN, is Robert J Lyles, his wife, and children. He is 33 thus born in 1817. I was told his father was Robert Amaziah Lyles. However, his birth year of 1817 is about 5 years short of his fathers marriage year of 1823. Can anyone comment on this? Do I have some dates out of whack? Anyone tracking these Sumner and Macon Co, TN, Lyles?

Maryland Lyles family

Does anyone know of any Lyles from the early Maryland group up to about Colonel William Lyles that had male family members who moved to North Carolina (specifically the southern part) and/or South Carolina? This is of course besides George Noble Lyles, Jr., who I know married Temperance Moody in Iredell County, NC around 1817. However, does anyone know if he had any brothers and where they may have gone? I would like to see if this Maryland family had anyone who settled in South Carolina.

Underwood and his "new bride", Avalina Lancaster, Robert White recently married to Miss Norman, our dear "Jesse" (who made a great crop of Tobacco, and some corn), and is signed by Sarah Liles.
Please send information if you can assist in this mystery.
Jewel Wellborn, wellborns@mindspring.com
I am trying to discover who this Sarah Liles is - and how is she related to my Bottoms/Gilbert/Murphy family from Camden,SC, Bladen Co, NC, and Fayetteville,GA.

Birthdates? on William, Henry, James Lyles ancestry trees?

While researching the family tree of Williamson Lyles, b. abt 1732, I found several trees that contain the same information of which does not "jive". John Lyles (Liles), who is the father of Williamson, is listed as being the son of James, born 1675. James was the son of HENRY, who was born in 1667. This would make HENRY 8 years old when he had his son JAMES in 1675. HENRY's father, who is listed as WILLIAM LYLES, was born in 1686, so WILLIAM had HENRY 11 YEARS BEFORE HE (WILLIAM) WAS BORN. I know that we can use other trees' info to add to our family tree which is wonderful, and that is probably why this same info is showing up on a lot of the LYLES family trees. I wanted to bring this to everyone's attention so that it can be corrected. Afterall, I'm pretty sure that most of us want our records to be as accurate as possible. A lot of us use these family trees as a basis for our further research. I am now confused! Ha Ha. We will get it straightened out I'm sure. Lisa Ouzts and Don Lyles
