My father in law, born about 1890 in South Shields area, though his family came from Dunfermline originally. I think his father worked in shipyards, though Dad came south, did well in the Civil Service, getting an OBE after WW11 for services to Ministry of Economic Warfare. Due to family disconnection and the Scottish element it is proving very difficult to trace the threads back, although I believe he had both brothers and sisters
