I have registration # for almost every event for the direct line to my husband (ans some actual transcripts/certificates) and would be interested to see where you come into my tree. Unfortunately I have no further info on Arthur apart from his approx. birthdate and locality and his wifes name.

I am also researching the3 Macauley/McAuley/McCauley family line.

Mine starts with Alexander McCauley married to Ann Patterson.

I recently found out they had a son Cochrane McAuley born 1821, but have no marriage data.

The Jane McCurdy you mention, I believe married James "Cochrane" McCauley. Jane was the daughter of Daniel "James" McCurdy and Margaret "Peggy" McCauley, a sister to Cochrane born 1821.

The majority of this family emigrated to Rawdon, Quebec; then Grey County,Ontario and Manitoulin Island.

Marian

Revision...

Scottish census data to 1841 & Scottish OPRs has corrected previously erroneous information. George, son of James and Jane, appears to have been an only child.

Also US Immigration papers/ships' lists has proven that James, a child of James and Jane (but not the family noted above) was not from Scotland as his descendant family believed, but from Ireland. He did however cross the Atlantic aboard the ship Glasgow, sailing out of Liverpool.

Re: Macauley/Macaulay/McCauley/McCausly 1800s Glasgow & Liverpool

Hello Maggie,
I recently had my DNA evaluated, and I have found that I very closely match "Macaulay's" in and around Ontario, Canada. If you consider my oldest known ancestor was a George Macaulay, b. 1786 Glasgow, Scotland, and he had sons named James, George (my line), John and Alexander, we might be on to something? I have to dig up my material, but since my George's father was also named George, it might be possible that the James you mention, perhaps named his first born son after his father "George", so it could be that my George (jr) born 1812, and your James, could be brothers? Do you know James' age at death in 1881? Interestingly, my George was also married to a Mary A. (Annabel) with the surname MacLeod. If not for knowing that mine were already in Canada by 1849 according to the 1871 & 1881 census's, I'd be really confused, you see, my George Jr. named my g-grandfather Kenneth, and he was born 02 Aug. 1851 at CBI, Nova Scotia, Canada. Well, if I haven't confused you too much, I think you'll agree, this is something we need to keep an eye on, in the future? Let me know what you think?
David

Thought I might post this here also...........I am looking for information on my GG Grandfather's youngest sibling. Her name was Annette Macauley. She was born in Illinios in 1846.
Searching for any information re George McCausly/Macaulay and his wife Mary A.

George was the son of James and Jane McCausly/Macauley. According to the 1881 British census he was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1836. In 1881 his father had died and his mother, Jane Macauley, was living with him and his family in Liverpool, England at 7 Sugnall St. He was listed as a "Comm Clerk (Merchants)". His family included his wife Mary A. (b. Liverpool 1836); daughters Annie Macaulay (b. Liverpool 1863), Jane Macaulay (b. Liverpool 1864); and sons George Macaulay (b. Liverpool 1868), John Macauley (b. Liverpool 1870), and Kenneth Macauley (b. Liverpool 1872).

George had a younger brother James McCausly/McCauley b. about 1840 in Glasgow who immigrated to Canada via New York in 1860/61 aboard the ship "Glasgow" out of Liverpool. James married Jemima Hunt 11 Oct 1864 in Scotland, Ontario, Canada.

I have only found George and his family in the 1881 census for England. I would love to know anything about other siblings in Scotland and what became of them and also what became of George and family after 1881. Appreciate any and all help.

note: various surname spellings are as taken from available historical sources

Re: Sarah Paralee Macauley

I agree...Sarah Paralee (1841-1898) was the daughter of John B. McAuley, born 01/26/1817 in NC; died 08/06/1895, Benton Co., TN and Darthula A. Rust, born 04/16/1820 in TN; died 08/05/1887, Benton Co., TN. Both are buried at McAuley Cemetery, Buena Vista, TN. They had 11 children (I have their names). By the way, Irvin Ozwald (or Irving) McAuley was Sarah Paralee's youngest brother, born on July 16, 1860. Sarah's brother William Melvin McAuley was my great grandfather. I didn't have Sarah's marriage info or her children's names (until now). John B. McAuley was a prominent farmer and merchant in the Buena Vista community. He also operated a cotton gin. He was the Justice of the Peace in Carroll County, TN. He was a mason. He was one of the original deacons of the Mt. Nebo Baptist Church in Buena Vista (church est. in 1834.) John's sons (Sarah's brothers), Leonidas, Enos and Bevie all served in the Confederate Army. Enos ran away from home and joined at age 16. Leonidas was a Lt. who was killed at The Battle of Shiloh. Enos later became a physician.

John B. McAuley was the son of William McAuley, born Oct 1787, Montgomery Co., NC; died after 1860 in Carroll Co., TN and Mary "Elizabeth" Butler (daughter of Elias Butler and Sarah Elizabeth Starke), born February 04, 1791 in Montgomery Co., NC; died after 1860 in Carroll Co.

Darthula A. Rust was the daughter of Jeremiah Turner Rust and Elizabeth Allen. Jeremiah was Sheriff of Carroll, Henry, and Benton counties 1844-48.

If you're interested, I have much more on the McAuley, Rust and Butler families at my website at www.ajourneypast.com
Samuel MacAuley m. Jane Knox-(Ireland, Georgia, USA)

Searching for ancestors, descendants of SAmuel MacAuley and Jane Knox. I believe that Samuel may be buried in Sarah Cem, Dade County, Georgia. Jane was living in 1858 in Dade County. Samuel is believed to have been born in 1770 in Ireland. I know this is thin. I have only just started researching these two!

My Dad & I are researching the Gibson and Macauley lines.
Do you know if any of your ancestors are related to David Gibson or Mary Jane MaCauley? David and Mary went to Canada (presumably Ontario) to live with cousins for two years (circa 1855 to 1857). We believe the cousins were in the vicinity of Ennisfield. Does any of this sound familiar?
Please respond at your convenience.
Thank you in advance.
