My Great Grandfather is Alexander B MacDonald 1847-1926. Born South River Nova Scotia Canada. His first wife was Annie McInnis, his second was Catherine McInnis. They lived in Thorburn/Pictou Nova Scotia. Alexander's Dad was John B MacDonald, Born in Scotland, John's wife was Catherine MacDonald born Antigonish Nova Scotia. Looking for any Info on this John B MacDonald.

Yeah! A family member just sent me a hand written family genealogy done by a now deceased ancestor - It confirms some siblings I had figured out on my own (though never really had confidence in). Plus, gave me many more names - Unfortunately, I don't have any real data or dates and knowing how common these names are - may not help to list the info - but here goes...

Alexander MacDonald of Gairloch, Scotland m. ? was Kepper of the guns and huntsman for the Duke of Edinburgh.
had Murdoch (who remained in Scotland and was Kepper of the Crown jewles and of William Wallace's Sword)
(Murdoch had:

William, Alexander (went to New Zealand), Murdoch, John, Donald, Mary, Isabel, Annie, Helen, Sophia)

Duncan (my great great grandfather)
Jessie

Duncan was born circa 1799 and I believe arrived to Cape Breton, Boularderie Island with wife Anne MacLellan in 1831. They lived for sometime on what family says was land granted from the King on Boularderie (to whom I am not sure - also not sure which other siblings of Duncan's or Anne's came over.

They had
Alexander (who had John, William, Mary, Henry, Harriet, Austin, Lillie)
Murdoch (who had Hannah, Tillie, Mamie(?) - all who died of TB - Roderick, Cahrles, Annie)
John (who had Josie - John died young enough that "josie was raised by other family)
Donald (died in infancy)
Duncan (stonecutter - died at age 25)
Donald (my great grandfather - moved to Mass, USA - married Janet Scott Anderson, had 12 kids)
Roderick (had John, William, George, Mary)
Margaret (married a McLeod)
Mary - or May Ellen (married a MacDonald had Janet and Nena) (later married Capt John MacMillan, Uncle of Donald Baxter MacMillan - who was from Cape Breton)
Isabella (married a McLeod - had Duncan, Annie, Dolly)

I am searching for any information on Brigid MacDonald (McDonnell or McDonald) and John Kennedy who may have married in the late 1860's in Kilkenny Ireland. I believe it was in Tiscoffin. He was a blacksmith. They had at least 11 children and had settled in Mothel Co.Kilkenny where my ggrandmother Mary Frances was born. Other children include Nicholas, John, Thomas, Martin, Brigid, Margaret, Ned (Edmund or Edward), Stephen and Lena.

I am also looking for my half brother Colin MacDonald from Columbus Ohio. He was put into a Catholic Convent I assume after he was born in 1944.
His mother is a Lois May MacDonald who later became Mrs. Lois May Parrish. Mrs. Parrish was married to Chester W. Parrish between the year 1944 to 1951 in Detroit Mi, and at 2001 Genevieve in Highland Park,ILL.

Does anyone know Paul Stanton MacDonald b.) abt.1906 and Harold E. MacDonald b) abt. 1908. Parents were John W. MacDonald b) Newton, MA & Florence M. Moyse b) in Canada ( N. S.) I can't find any info on these two.
I find them (Paul & Harold) in the 1910 census with their grandmother Annie F. MacDonald (maiden name - Dwyer ) also looking for info on John's sister Annie Francis, married Daniel Healey had a daughter that lived 21 days, both (mother & daughter) died in 1915.

I found Paul Stanton McDonald (spelled thus in register) in the Massachusetts birth register: born Nov. 17, 1905 in Newton, MA. All other info is the same, except that it has Florence was born in Halifax, NS. Also has father works in "Dye House."

The OPR (Office of Public Records of Scotland) states that on 22 October
1795, Mr. David Denoon, baptized Isobel, daughter of William McKenzie,
servant in Parktown, and his spouse Flora McMillan, in the presence of Jn.
Mc Kenzie, butcher in Kilroy and the Kirk Officers. This information was
sent to me by Elizabeth Dulaig in an e-mail dated 21 October 2004.

I have a certified copy of the baptism certificate for Isobel MacKenzie from
Scotland.

The exact burial place of Isobel and Alexander remains unknown.

It's certainly possible. I had been under the impression that Catherine outlived John, but I don't really know that for sure. I'd be interested in seeing what info you have on the Bailey Brook Macdonalds. On marriage licenses, Angus listed his place of birth as "Antigonish," but anything is possible.

Looking for any information about the family of Captain Angus Macdonald, born 1854 in Antigonish son of John and Catherine Macdonald. Angus died in 1900 in St. John, New Brunswick. He had married three times: Rosella Cody (or Coady) who died at sea in 1883; Minnie McDermott of St. John who died in 1897; and Joicy Perry Weyman who died in Los Angeles in 1951. A well-known sea captain at the time, Angus was at one time the captain of the Nicosia, though not when the ship was in a famous shipwreck off Sable Island (a nameplate from the Nicosia is displayed at the Maritime Museum in Halifax). Although he and Rosella were in St. John (or off at sea), the two oldest children, John A. Macdonald and Walter S., were sent to school at Saint Francis Xavier in Antigonish because of a relative who was an instructor there. Does this ring a bell with anyone?

I have a photo of Chatrles Harris MacDonald and wife Mary j taken on their 50th wedding anniversary. On the back, it says Warner NH. I believe they might have been visiting at the home of their daughter Marguerite. Charles was born in Kings County Nova Scotia in 1868.
Charles and Mary show in the 1930 census for Bristol RI with 3 daughters [Mildred, Marguerite, Lavinia, and 2 sons, Charles S [age 15, possibly 'S'ommerville] and George L, age 16
I know that Mildred and Lavinia never married.
If anyone has anyinformation on this family, I would be very interested in hearing from them.

John Sanfield MacDonald (1813-1 June 1872), buried in protected cemetery in St. Andrew's Ontario. His memorial says he was the first premier of Ontario and premier of the Province of Canada. His wife was Christine Waggaman (1819-3 Sep 1909).

I'm from Mallaig and remember 'Katie the Shoemaker' from when I was a child. I believe her husband was actually the Shoemaker. Perhaps there is some connection.

Males who carry the surname MacDonald or a variant may participate by joining the project. Hi Gordon, I'm a second generation Canadian, whose paternal grandparents both came from Lewis. My grandfather spelt his name in all three variants at various times in his life. My grandmother, apparently, spelt hers "MacD" as her maiden name (she was from another part of Lewis than my grandfather) and then "Macd" after marriage to my grandfather.

My father used to tell me that, since the Second World War, there has been some attempt to standardize on:
"MacD" means highlander;
"Macd" means islander; and
"McD" were the Northern Irish, some of whom got there by way of Harris/ Uist/ Barra and others by way of the Highland Clearances.

I don't know how much truth there is in any of it. I suppose the Clan Donald organization in Skye would be the ultimate authority on any "official" meanings.

I am aware of the differences in Mac, Mc, Mac but I would love to hear or see what you have on the Macdonald Clan.
My husband is Kenneth Roderick Macdonald his father was born in Scotland to Kenneth and Mary Macdonald, his brother Kenneth had a son Gordon.
We have been tracing the family and have done fairly well but there are times I just get confused so any help would be lovely, plus I just like information in general.

His father was Alistar James Robert Macdonald and the entire family included grandma Mary and grandfather Kenneth insisted on no small d.
