Re: Macfarlanes from Callander

Hi Maureen,
It was good to hear from you, and a bit of a surprise.

First a little bit about myself and where I fit into the family tree...
I am originally from Callander, and emigrated to Australia about 7 years ago. My mother was Margaret Macfarlane, Alexander's (1828) great-granddaughter.

When you said that most of the information you have is on the net, were you referring to http://www.clanmacfarlanegenealogy.info/genealogy/TNGWebsite... ? I had looked at that site several months ago, with the most recent of my relatives being my great-grandfather (Alexander, 1868). It was a surprise to me when I accessed it today to find that the information from my family tree had been added to it, including my deceased mother and brother!

On my family tree chart, my direct ancestors are from my own research, and most of the "extended" family are from the hints connected from other peoples' trees. That can be a great help, or cause confusion - I have your Peter and his wife Margaret with 8 children, 2 of which are called Archibald, which to me seems unlikely; one was born 1864 and the other 1867. What are your thoughts on that? Is it an accidental duplicate?

I don't know how much research you have done, but if you are interested, I can send you a copy of Peter's death entry from 1899, giving the place, time and cause of death.

I also have the birth certificate for Victoria Helen Macfarlane, and her marriage certificate to Henry Duncan. I am sure you are aware who she is... http://www.helenduncan.org.uk/

I have also found death certificates for Walter Macfarlane, age 58 (1902; Parents: Alexander Macfarlane, (Occupation: Taylor), and Christina McIntyre); and Catherine Macfarlane, age 12 days (1902; Parents: John Macfarlane, (Occupation: Slater), and Isabella Carrick.
Both of these people died in Callander, but I can't link them to anyone in my tree. Callander was, and still is, a small place, so I would have thought that most people with the same surname would be related someway. If they mean anything to you, I would be happy to forward the documents on to you.

Most of the other documents relate to my direct ancestors. If there is anything else I can help you with, just ask. My e-mail address is cphf25@hotmail.com.

Cheers, Calum.

Hello Calum,
Malcolm and Catherine were my g g g g grandparents. Their son, Peter, brother to your Alexander, was my ggg grandfather. Peter strated the Macfarlane and sons sletering business in Callander.

I have shared a lot of my data with another relation who lives in NZ. Much of this is already availab;e on the net.
I also have a number of documents relating to Alexander and Jane. Get in touch if you are still looking - I see your post is more than a year old.
Cheers to you, Maureen

WILLIAM MACFARLANE-born 1832 Neilston,Renfrewshire.

I would really appreciate any help in finding information re a death cert for William as it may be the only way to prove his parentage. I think his parents are Daniel Macfarlane and Ann Stevenson but am stuck until I can prove it. William married Margaret Dunsmuir in Neilston, March 1851, he was present at her death in 1891,and only days later is shown on 1891 census as widower living at Westview House,Paisley, also is noted at his daughter, Janet's marriage in 1892 but after that ..nothing. I have tried many variations on Scotlands People but no luck. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
>>>>>>>>>>>> UPDATE....FOUND.<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

I'm trying to research my fathers family, his father was Matthew MacFarlane (d approx 1950) The only information I have is that Matthew MacFarlane, married Elvina Ainslie Keith, they had 5 sons, Peter,James,Alan,Albert,John, all still live in edinburgh but none of them are able to help with information! I Belive the parents of Matthew Macfarlane lived in the Canongate are of Edinburgh in a tenement overlooking Holyrood Palace, they apparently had MacFarlane's Metal Merchants also in the canongate but I can't find any info on it or them! My Father believes Matthew MacFarlane was a leading aircraftsman during WW2.

I am looking for information on the father of William MacFarlane who was born 31-Dec-1882 in Neilston and died in the USA (Beaver County, Pennsylvania, USA).

His mother was Agnes Morrison b. 25 Mar 1860 (Ireland) d. 25 Aug 1961 (Beaver County, Pennsylvania, USA). Agnes was widowed (in Paisley, Scotland) before coming to the USA on 3-Sep-1923. I have her census info for 1881, 1891 (with William), and 1901 (with William and sibling). I have not seen the actual documents so I am not sure if there could be errors. In the 1891 census she still used her maiden name. In 1901 she used McFarland. She is buried as Agnes M MacFarlane.

Feel free to post (I have an alert set) or message me privately.

Thank you,
Patrick MacFarlane

My Grandfather was from Paisley Scotland and story sounds similar. His mother was widowed and had many children that she brought to US. Grandfather was Allan Arthur MacFarlane who married Edith Louise Munson. They had a son Allan who moved to Calif. and had a daughter MaryAnn. I have no names of my grandfather's parents or siblings but I remember there being talk of New Britain in conversations. Not sure if there is any connection. Would love to hear from you.

William MacFarlane was born in Neilston,Renfrewshire,Scotland in 1832 He was a Calico (Block) Printer, married in 1851 to Margaret Dunsmuir. I have all of the census forms throughout his life,in Neilston. Marriage Banns, and copies of his children's marriage certs etc. What I would love to find is a copy of his death cert. He shows up on the 1901 census as living in Milton of Campsie and records from the orphanage where his granddaughter was say he was residing in Milton Campsie in 1905. But unable to find any death cert for him.

I am looking for the parents, grand parents etc of Agnes Macfarlane born Bridgeton Glasgow Larnarkshire Scotland in March 1861 . She had a younger sister Mary. Agnes emigrated to New Zealand on the Canterbury departing Greenock in November 1879 arriving NZ January 1880 and apparently Mary emigrated latter also. Agnes married John Waite at Kakorai NZ in September 1880 and died in 1910 aged 49. Agnes and John had children: Sarah Anne, John, Thomas, Agnes, William, Alfred Edward, Alexander McFarlane, James Stanley, Leonard and Gladys Pretoria

first Possible parents of Agnes: are John Macfarlane and Agnes Kilgour who had daughters Agnes born 1861 Bridgeton Glasgow and Mary Bone born 19 April 1873 Cathcart Renfrewshire. I am not sure of Agnes birth date for this record and have found no further generations back.

second possible parents are Edward Macfarlane and Margaret O'Niel who had daughter Agnes born 24 March 1861 Glasgow but no mention found of a sister Mary.

I seem to have drawn a blank confirming who Agnes parents were let alone the earlier ancestors
Old query from Sandi Heath re. MacFarlanes in Australia

Sandi Heath posted, in 1998, some very interesting info about the MacFarlanes. I have only recently come across it and tried to respond as I, too, am descendant of the same MacFarlanes. Unfortunately Sandi's 1998 email address no longer works.

If you are Sandi Heath, or know her, please respond here and I will send my regular email address so that we can share info.

Nicki
