Thanks for your note as you made me do some checking and found that I had been miss-led into marrying Christina off to another chap. Harry Charles is an elusive fellow ,hard to find anything about him.If you check the other posts under this heading you might find leads to more info. on Donald except the post from cyprus1999 as his claim is not correct as it is about another MacKay girl (Christiana).
Jeannie MacKay nee McLean was my father's aunt and she also worked for Royalty.

Just found this Ancestry.com thread via Google. Donald MacKay (c.1845-c.93) was my 3xgreat-grandfather. His daughter Christina Caroline MacKay apparently died in childbirth or very shortly thereafter (1895), and my great-grandmother, Christina Elizabeth Emily Paris, was raised by the Paris family.

I would love to hear any new information about Donald. I had also worked out that he was married twice, first to Elizabeth Stewart and then to Jeannie MacLean. I know of four daughters - Christina Caroline (1868), Elizabeth Margaret (1872), Catherine Jessie MacLean (1880) and Jeannie MacKay (1881).

I was intrigued by the census entry with his rather grand title - but I assumed there might be many pipers to the Prince of Wales/Edward VII, and didn't think any more of it until I stumbled upon a BBC article about Angus MacKay.

Anne Alley (1850-1925) led a quiet life as a member of an established professional family in Charlottetown. Her father Thomas Alley (1820-1900) was an architect, her brother George Alley (1844-1899) was a well-known judge, and her nephew Gordon was a prominent physician. The natural beauty of her native province of Prince Edward Island inspired her painting and poetry, some of which appeared in the local newspaper, THE EVENING PATRIOT. Her single volume, LEAFLETS OF VERSE (1923), was published near the end of her life.

mackays originally come from scottland but where in ireland and everywhere else they also spell there last names very diffrent but from what i understand there all connected we just gotta figure out how lol but i have a john s who married an anges murdock i believe thats how it spelled they had a boy named gorage but john died in brantfor ontario so i dont know if that helps u

I have just found your note on ancestry posted years ago. I am descended from some McKay/Mackay's from West Lothian (Livingston/Linlithgow area) of Scotland. Their parents were john McKay 1800-1878 and Martha nee Douglas 1802-abt 1845. After Martha's death John McKay married Agness Meek one of thier children was George mcaky. I traced all of the 'first family form Martha and John to Australai (where I live) and I heard from someone else that some of the 'second family' from Agness meek also came. Maybe that is a link to you? If I 'knew' they came I could look for documents here and see what I found. Regards Mary May (nee MacKay)

hi i found ur posting of mackays from scottland i am also a decendent and have some relatives from there but i do know that they moved from scottland to irealand then from there some made it to canada i am trying to find why they moved from scottland but this is all i know at this point

Alexander's parents were Roderick MacKay born in Pictou Canada in 1801 and died 1891, he married Catherine Gunn from Scotland.

I am looking for info on Flora Mackay who married Alexander Fraser. I believe they lived in Pictou, Nova Scotia. I know that they had at least 1 daughter: Sophia Fraser born about 1850-1853 in Pictou, Nova Scotia and Sophia(Fraser)Jacob died March 13,1914 in Lynn, Massachusetts, USA. Sophia Fraser married Daniel David Jacob July 4,1872 also of Nova Scotia possibly Halifax or Colchester area? Any help on this family line would be much appreciated. Many came to Victoria in mid 1800's. We messaged each other back in 2004 regarding James Somerville MacKay. (My last name used to be Gray - I have since remarried). James was my mother's paternal grandfather. Life got a little hectic since I last communicated with you and I'm just now getting back into my genealogy research. I spent many years on my father's side of the family but very little on my mom's side.

I noticed that you have a photo of our great-grandmother (Lucinda Silver) in your online tree. I'd love to know more about Mabel's family and descendents if you are willing to share. My grandfather was Elgie (Mabel's brother) and I'd be more than happy to share any of this family information with you.

I remember when I was in my late youth/early teens, my mom's cousin, Ernie Murdoch, came to visit us in Kinmount. I remember that he was from Ohio and that he made me laugh. He was only there for a few hours after I got home from school and then I never saw him again. My mom was thrilled that he had come to visit! I would love to know more about him and his family...

I am from a family of Mackays from Australia. I know that the Mackays came from scotland not sure when or where abouts. My Dad is a Mackay and his dad was Phillip (thomas) Mickey Mackay. As far as I can tell the only reason why we are Mackays is because Phillip Macakay's mother Edith Mackay gave birth to Phillip out of wedlock. Edith Married George Bronco sims. Edith Mackays father is William Mackay

My dad, John Albert MacKay (Al), twin brother to Herbert, brother of Henry and Mason, Betty and Helen. They were from Westville. The boys have all past, the sisters are still around. I know Helen (Pitts)is still in Westville, Betty is not too far from there.

I hadn't expected such a quick response to my offer, but I'd be pleased to help if I can. Since adquiring Donald MacKay's Pipe Banner and a couple of his medals through an auction a few years ago, I enjoyed the search into his background.

If in the mean time, either of you have access to a publication by Savanah of London called "Pipers of the Highland Regiments, 1854-1902," there's a brief account of MacKay and a photo of one of his medals included.

I have lately found what I believe to be an earlier marriage for Donald to Elizabeth Stewart at Maryburgh, Ross and Cromarty on 10th April, 1867. I have also found marriages for his two youngest daughters.

Just found some additional documents about my McVey side, so I figured I would create another post and see if I could locate any additional connections.

McVeys of Boston starts with James and Sally Murray McVey from Derry Ireland. They would have at least one child named Cornelius McVey (1806 - 1891)who would marry Margaret Hannon and leave Ireland for Boston in 1824. They would have several children, one being Adolphus Guastavus McVey - Yachting Editor / Writer / etc. for the Boston Herald, New York Herald, Atlanta Constitution, London Times, and the American Correspondent of the "Rudder."

Actually just read this post after the first one I replied to. Funny that you mention the church in Eureka - my GGrandparents on my Grandmother's side (Blacks)owned the house across the river from that church. Spent all of my summers there as a child.
