Parents of Jane Ryan Madden

I am seeking the parents of Jane Ryan Madden, born about 1881, probably in Hartford Connecticut. She married Edward Madden, a construction superintendent. They lived in West Hartford, and had two children born about 1918 and 1921. Jane was widowed and she died 30 March 1961 in West Hartford.

If you know Jane's parents, or could give me leads, I would thank you. She was also known as Jennie, and I wonder if she was christened Mary Jane Ryan.

Does anyone have info on Sarah Elizabeth Madden, born to Samuel Roark and Permelia Ann Hudson Davis Madden on Jan 12, 1864, in Yell Co., Arkansas? As far as I can tell she was the youngest of their children and dropped out of sight after the 1880 U.S. census. I can find no cemetery marker or death notice, nor any record of a marriage. If you have information on her, I would be very appreciative. (Samuel's and Permelia's last name is sometimes spelled "Maddon.")

Madden family-Pennsylvania

I know I have written before BUT I hope I can get a closer connection or reply-health matter have been exposed and it's DNA and not only for my cause but any blood relative. my great grandfather is/was known as Shirley Madden whom lived in Philadelphia with wife at time Mary Madden (nee Ashton) and had 3 children-Ruth Shirley Madden (whom is/was my grandmom) Robert Madden (adopted later from mothers family and was/is Robert Linde) and David Madden ( whom has passed away-he was born in an institution he was a paratrooper) Dear fellow board members;

I am graciously asking for ANY help no matter how small My ggrandparents are Shirley Madden who enlisted in World War 1 June 5 1917, he was tall with blueish grey eyes, brown hair and medium build. He was a rivitor/iron worker. He was born August 28th 1887 in Denver Colorado. We believe his father maybe a have the name Lee or one of his relatives it was given to my Aunt Nancy as a middle name and were told it was a family namealong with the name Shirley. Shirley married my ggrandmother Mary E Ashton born October 20 1882 past January 1970. They had two sons Robert Linde who went to live with his Aunt Edith and Uncle Harry. David-whom was born in Norristown State Hospital and My grandmom Ruth Shirley Madden she was born November 14 1921 and past away January 13 2000. They went to live with their Uncle John Ashton whom lived at 514 Keper Street Lawndale. We were told he made attempts to see his children but horribly was run out of town =(. He did reside in Philadelphia in the 1920s and also Kansas in 1915 Lyons, Kansas? My Aunt Dale does indeed have a picture of him but it is older and not to clear he was in front of a monument. We have been told the Maddens were/are Episcopolan. They said he had breathing problems asthma indeed and was believed to possible have circulation (cardiovascular issues)?Any help would be great -i am suffering from DNA problems that have to do with the Autonomic Nervous System (Auto-pilot). I have some information which I will supply underneath---just want to know about his /my family. and let any know about possible DNA problems for us to watch otu for and future & ANY HELP NO MATTER HOW LITTLE COULD BE A HUGE HELP!!!

There was/is a Stella Madden whom lived at 1421 West Moreland Street with a Margaret Davis,Celia Keefe, James & Susan Deverney, Kathryn Keefe, Mary Keefe,Mary & Soloman Sinaberg-SHE IS STRONGLY believed to be of relation-how is thought to be a possible cousin? My Grandmom Ruth Nov. 14 1921-Jan. 13th 2000. Her Mom Mary E Madden ss 208-40-5102 born Oct. 20 1882- past Jan 17 1970. buried in South Mountain Pa 17261. I have heard of family on Pine Street-"the pine street madden's"-that is a mystery of relation because we donot know Shirley's parents names? Shirley DOESNOT APPEAR IN THE 1900, 1910 OR 1930 CENSUS? Weirdly it has said Shirley's parents were born in Pennsylvania, Colorado, and Mass.? shirley was born August 28th 1887 or 1889 --AS stated before it has given 3 different places of birth for the SAME person however we have been told he was born in Colorado? Shirley married Mary E Ashton in 1919 license # 401706 he was a machinist/iron worker. My Grandmom told me that Shirley was a family name and she shared the same middle name as her father-HOWEVER he used his middle name. At oen time he lived at 516 Kerper Street Philly/PA at that time was a rivotor/iron worker. in 1920 my greatgrandparents (Shirley and Mary) were listed as residents 2 times at 2 different locals. 1 they boarded with Mary E Kensler whom was widowed w/children Mary, Anna Reilly, Helen Reilly, Alice Williams, and Raymond Williams. along with Mary's family the Ashtons.
I apologise for all and any confusion-it is a confusing family ??? I hope to make any connection and get info. on the Madden family.

Danielle Z Almes
dzalmes@aol.com

Not Shirley in the almost bottom Maddens. (The bottom Maddens are related but not the same as the middle ones which are related to JOHN Madden of Ste_Marthe, Canada, not James.) Those James 1770 John 1809 Thomas 1854 Leo to Leo 1922 are mine. My father was Leo B. Madden (Feb 1922) born in Braddock, PA to Leo B. Madden from Braddock. Thomas Madden (abt 1853-54 CANADA)was married to Mary Brady, mother Bridget (sp Brigis on census). The Browns, Maddens and Bradys all lived in the same house that you can see on my tree, 207 Mills Street, Braddock. It is VERY confusing because there are many Maddens with Many children all named John, James, Cornelius etc. There are more than one Cornelius Sylvester Maddens in my live....shoot me ~Marla Madden and Paul was adopted, both parents PA

I also remember that my father told me that Onie ( Ony?) Madden, an infamous character, had claimed to be related, and he also was not.

I know he came to America when a very young teenager, and had brothers in Boston. If you look on Wikipedia, I have written a short biography for him.

We have a "Dennis Madden" that appears in my family tree. We assume he was born in the mid 1800's given his daughter was born in 1870. Although he lived in Troy, NY, we do not know at this time if he was born there or immigrated. He married a woman named Helen (maiden name unknown).

Sorry, I cannot support any links to Michael and Ellen (Nellie), but it's a possibility.

Feel free to check out Dennis Madden on our public tree. Sorry for the scant details in that area of our tree; we neared the end of our line.

Looking for information on Michael Paul Madden and his wife Ann (McCormick) Madden. Ann was born abt 1835 in Ireland and died 1881 in Sumter Township, McLeod County, Minnesota,USA. From what I have found they were both on the same ship to USA and that was how they met. Michael was traveling alone but Ann was traveling with her family, not sure if her parents was with her or just her siblings. Michael and Ann had four children, the oldest Mary (1873-1935)became a nun, Sister Cyril, the next child was Annie (Madden) O'Fallon (1875-1966) then it was Michael John Madden (1877-1951) he is my mother's father. The last child was Margaret Madden (1881-1881) both her and her mother Ann died during childbirth and are supposely buried together. I am looking for birth dates and date of death of Ann (McCormick)Madden plus any connections in Ireland so I can research this family farther. Any information will be greatly apperciated and I well gladly share and information I have.

Would somebody be able to find obits for the following people whose death details I got from the SSDI:

Anthony Madden (10 Oct 1889-1 Mar 1968), Patrick Madden (17 Mar 1887-1 May 1963), Joseph Madden (9 Sept 1893-Mar 1963) and Helen Madden (27 Dec 1897-1 May 1975). As far as I'm aware Anthony, Patrick and Helen died in Dunmore, PA. Their brother, Monsignor Joseph Michael Madden died in New York. Their other siblings were called Anna Madden, John A. Madden and William (Bill) Madden. They were children of John Madden, (c1866), a Miner and his wife, Mary of Dunmore, PA. I believe that Anna was a Dress Maker/Tailor, Patrick and Bill were Plumbers, John was a Bank Clerk and Anthony apparently, was an Accountant. Living in Ireland it's difficult for me to get this info. If anyone can help I'd be very grateful.
Elizabeth Beaver Maddan of Franklin County, Pennsylvania

I'm searching for information about my 2nd-great grandmother Elizabeth (Beaver) Maddan who lived in Fort Loudon, PA. We know that she was born in 1847 and died in 1885, but have never been able to find her place of burial. Her Beaver ancestors are buried in Union Cemetery, Fort Loudon, but there is no evidence or record showing her being there. She was widowed at age 25, and her husband was Dr. Andrew B. Madden, buried in St. Thomas alongside his parents, Spencer & Martha Biggers Madan. Elizabeth isn't there, as far as we can determine. Census records show that she lived awhile with her brother-in-law J.R. Lamaster in or near Bridgeport, which is today known as Markes. Could she be buried in this community? If anyone can point me in the right direction during my search, I'd be most grateful. Larry Gillum

This is my second reply to your query. I showed your note about your great grandmother's family, her name: Susie Savannah Housel Huffman. Alright here is my Omygosh, my husband says that is probably his aunt sue & he hopes he and I aren't related since we've been married for 49 years. Wouldn't that be a hoot. I'm originally from Iowa.

Very little. As I believe I said in my note our grandfather's name was James Agnew Madden & his obit said he was from Maddenville PA. His mother's name was Hannah Locke (maiden name) Madden Crouse and I believe she was in York PA when she died. That's pretty much all we know and we have no family we know of to ask. As far as we know Grandpa only had one half sister and I believe her name was Jessie. I'll see what I can find out about the Housel connection. My husband and his family are from near Washington PA.

I know we have the same "Madden's" because we have the same names and you are correct there aren't many Johanna's, so it has to be the same. If you could send me information to the slytemp2 at aol dot com address, I would certainly appreciate it. I would like to see more information. I know there is a Madden reunion once a year in and around Mauston Wisconsin. This is where a great many Madden family members are located and where my mother, grandfather and grandmother and aunts and uncles are buried. In fact my grandfather played a large part in building the Catholic church there.

Good Morning Eileen,
I received your post. Thank you for responding and offering your help. I am Pattilee Tempelmeyer the daughter of Rose (Rozalia) Delores Madden Romppaine Burris Sherwood. My mother died 9 days before I turned 5 years old from Breast Cancer. She was also stricken with polio and couldn't walk prior to the Cancer.
Apparently my mother married her high school sweetheart Patrick Burris (also from Mauston) prior to them being of age and his parents had the marriage annulled. She then married Arvo Romppaine and later divorced him and married a naval officer William Sherwood.
The family refers affectionately to my mother as being the original Rosie Riveter as she worked in the ammunitions plant (near Mauston I believe) during the war. The also describe her as being the"wild and adverturesome" one of the family. In this day and time she would have been considered 'normal", but back in the day she was considered quite "wild" for the times.
My grandparents were David John Madden and Elmira Lucy Rogers Madden of Mauston. Apparently my grandfather played a large part in the construction of the Catholic Church in Mauston. My great grandparents were John Madden and Johanna Flemming.
David and Elmira (she was called Lucy) had 10 children. Two children died at birth. I am currently corresponding with one of my cousins who lives in Elroy, Shirley Waddel - she is the daughter of Olga Madden, my mother's sister. I was so young when my mother died and I was adopted (long story) by my mother's friends after she died and they refused to talk about my family so it's been very hard to find out information.
If you have researched the family, I would love to see what you have gathered thus far.
As I understand it also, we have a very very large family !!!! Apparently I am told there was some sort of feud between the Madden's in and around the Mauston area and some of them didn't speak for years.....not certain this is true, but they do seem disconnected to a certain degree. I have corresponded with a Judge Madden who is a cousin of ours. I have visited Mauston briefly, spending 2 days there. I wish I had longer to visit the area and talk to the Madden's in the area.
The only member of our large family I vaguely got to know was Genivive Madden Needles. She lived in Waukegan and we lived in North Chicago basically sister cities. Waukegan, North Chicago and Great Lakes Naval Training Center are basically streets seperating those cities. She would visit as much as possible, but I lost touch with her when my adopted family moved to Arkansas. I think she was determined to be in my life at some level, but my adopted mom just tolerated her visits. Looking back now, I believe my adopted mother really didn't want me to have a relationship with the Madden Family for some reason or with anything or anyone connected with my mother's family or friends.
My adopted father as he became quite aged, before he died would tell people - this is my adopted daughter - we took her because no one else wanted her - I don't think he realized how hurtful he was, rather he was trying to take a slam at my mother's family because none of them could adopt me. All of person's in my mother's family were relatively large families with little income and we unable to take on another child, which is understandable for those times in the early 50's. I think he and my adopted mother were mad at my mom's family and couldn't believe my own mother's family was unable to take me to raise after my mom's death.
I know the family is large and my own children would like to know as much about the family as possible. My oldest daughter Denise Tempelmeyer Noble, is especially interested in the family history. All of my children are very busy with their lives and don't have much time to research the history and quite frankly when I tried, I seemed to hit stumbling blocks and it was exhausting to try to run down all the leads.
Thanks for replying to the post on the board and I hope you will continue to correspond and I can be reached directly at slytemp2 at aol dot com. I tried to reply to your email on the post you sent, however it just came back to me.
getting back to this years later!
I am unaware of any Preyers.
Billy Madden had one child- a son named William T Madden, who was schooled at Oxford England from approx 5 years old until his return to the US when he was about 20. He died in the early 1950s. I knew only a few relatives on Billy Madden's side of the family, since he had little contact with his family - his Great Aunt Kate Meyers who of course was much younger than he, since she was alive into the 1960s.
