I have a Mary Elizabeth Maddison in my tree - she was my husband's great grandmother, born about 1857 died in South Africa in 1937. I have very little information on her but would love to know if you can fit her in to your tree.

Hi, not sure whether this will help anyone. My father and several other Maddison's are buried at garden house cemetery in swalwell. When you first go in, walk up hill, look for rather large angel gravestone and that is where you will find them.

I am trying to trace the mother of Mary Ann Maddison. I know she was born some time in 1881 to John Maddison. She then married Michael Rutherford in 1905 where they went on to have children. There are two possible mothers to Mary Ann Maddison. They are either Ann or Hannah Christina Stobart. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Im trying to construct my Maddison family tree and Im having a very difficult time getting past my grandfather, Joseph Walter Maddison Jr. b July-9-1924 in Rochester NY. His father was Joseph Walter Maddison b 1893 d 1957. He came to the US in 1919. Wife is unknown.

I have recently added John Maddison b 1839 g-son of George & son of Wiiliam b 1804 to my tree he married Elizabeth Parkin my 4C3R about June 1864. I have data for the couple up to 1891. Two other trees have William living to age 97 I cannot see the death anywhere in the UK.Would you be so kind as to share your more recent Maddison data if it encompasses William?

Hi,

Do you know if there were any children to this marriage? If so, the registers should give a mother maiden name as the children would have been born after 1911.

There were Maddison children born in York to mothers Wilcox, Wiggins, Dickinson and Thompson between 1920 and 1936 for example. If you know where any children were born this would enable you to do a similar search and see if you could then be led towards a transcription error in the marriage for instance enabling you to purchase the certificate.

Trying to find out where Maria Maddison b.1842 Hallgarth St Durham was from birth until she turns up on the 1842 census aged 18yrs.
Parents are John and Elizabeth Maddison(a tailor if I am correct).
Maria Maddison married John Coates in 1865 who died not long after and later remarried in 1867 to Timothy Frizell b.1837 a blacksmith.
Unable to find any evidence of her ever living with her parents.
Will be grateful of any help/info

Hi, My 3xGt Grandfather John Maddison was born 1826 at Rawcliffe Bridge Yorkshire. He had 2 sisters - one must have been a twin Maria b 1826 and Jane b 1830 I believe his father was also John Maddison, and was a Cartwright by trade.

I belive 3xgt Grandfather John married a Louise Lonsdale and had 1 child (that I have found) Arthur Charles who married Elizabeth Mortimer and had 7 children Frederick,Lawrence Mortimer,Charles Henry, Harry, Ada Louise, Albert Edmund?, & Clara L.

Harry is my Gt Grandfather, married Lottie Howley and they had 5 children - Leslie, Clarence (aka Eric), Sydney, Elsie and Eric.

Leslie was my Grandfather and he Married Evlyn May Hobbes in 1926, they had 2 children Desmond and Kenneth. Leslie was killed when SS Ceramic was torpedoed in 1942.

Both remaining Maddison families(Desmond's and Kenneth's are now living in Australia having emigrated in 1967 and probably about 1970's.

would love to find out if anyone has any connections to these family members.

Hello there, I am Lawrence Mortimer Maddison's grandaughter, which makes me Harry's great neice (I think if I've got the connections right). I'm just getting into this, looking for Lawrences wife's family. My mother, Joyce Maddison is still alive and remembers Harry and some of the other siblings. No connection to the guys you are looking for unfortunately but nice to say hello!

lot's of the Maddison's from Tanfield are buried at the Holy Trinity Church in Pelton (just under the brridge as you go through Pelton) Sometime ago I got the burial records and have a spreadsheet with the Maddison's in there. I'm related from the Fenwick Maddison also from Tanfield - problem is there were about 6000 maddison's in the Durham area in 1911! To All You Maddison Experts I need Help.

My Grandmother was called Barbara Jones born in 1895, Thornley, Durham and according to her birth records her mother was Elizabeth Maddison and father John Edward Jones.
I have 1901 census and 1911 census of this family.
My problem is threefold.
There is no record of their marriage-I think it was transcribed incorrectly but that is another story.
Every time I have tried to check them out on other people trees they have Elizabeth Maddison to a different person and listing her parents as Mark Maddison & Mary A. Burns. I do think Mark & Mary are her parents because of some information I have.
The ideal thing would be to find a direct relative that has done some research and has more information than I have.
I have information about their children, some information about who they married and then of course there is my grandmother's children.

Any help would be helpful

John Maddison - Huntingdon

At some point before 1891, they moved to Croydon where, between 1883 and 1902, they had 13 children, including two sets of twins.

this is indeeed a black hole in my lines as well we go back to a john maddison at dipton. upper lintz but the whole of the maddison family is huge and completely everywhere round the world.

i have been at this foe twenty five years and still i am hitting brick wall dead lines. emigration everywhere.

I am trying to trace two girls Elizabeth Jane Maddison and Maggie (Margaret) Maddison.
Thomas William Maddison (b 1867) was a coal miner who married Mary Wright (b 1883) in Winlaton , Durham, England on Sepember 14th. 1901, they had two children in England, Russell born 13 Jan. 1903 and Elizabeth Jane born 9 Feb, 1905. On 31 July 1907 Thomas and Russell sailed from Liverpool for Philadelphia on SS Cymric. They were followed by Mary and Elizabeth Jane who sailed from Liverpool on 18 Sept. 1907 aboard SS Haverford bound for Philadelphia.
The 1910 13th. Census of the USA shows Thomas, Mary, Russell, Elizabeth Jane and Maggie resident in Taylorville Township in the County of Christian in Illinois. The additional daughter (Maggie/Margaret) was stated as being 2 years old and born in Pennsylvania. An additional son, Joseph, was born on June 3, 1910 (#17122) at 705 W. Praire Street, Taylorville, Illinois.
The problem we have is that Mary and the 2 boys (Russel and Joseph) returned to the UK in 1911 having travelled from Montreal to Glasgow on the MV Grampian that arrived on the 6th. November 1911.
Family hearsay was that Thomas was killed in a mining accident and that the two girls remained in the USA and were adopted or looked after by a post mistress when Mary and the boys (Russell and Joseph) returned to England.
Mary Wright married Thomas Highmoor on the 10th. May 1913 at the Register Office, Gateshead, Durham, Mary Highmoor was my wife’s grandmother.
Having established that the two girls did not return to the UK with their mother we would now like to establish what happened to them and whether there are any living descendants, today it would be unthinkable to separate brothers and sisters in such a manner.
We would like to know what happened to Thomas, was he killed in a coal mine accident? So far it has not been possible to find his death registered in Illinois or the USA.
