Hi Dave,
Yes,we do live on the right up park rd,opposite hesketh park, although we dont have a long drive and I cant remember you visiting us here.We have lived here for approx 40 years now. . I do regret not having visited your dad as I have thought about it on many occasions, but as I am now divorced from Andy it did not seem appropriate,as you are his relation. He has since married again. I have got a new partner for 20 years, but have not remarried. I spoke to Lee yesterday who will tell his Dad about you and your dad.
What a lovely photo of you and your dad. I recognized both of you instantly. A lovely son of yours also.Hopefully I can send some pictures when I have sorted my virus.
I am on facebook as. Julie Anderson. When I send an e-mail it will say it is from Albert Lidbury (my partner) although he doesnt use the computer much. Have a good night. Julie.x

Hi David,
sorry your dad had dementia, Andy's mum had that when she was only in her 40's, it was awful when she didnt recognize her grandchildren when we visited her. She died when she was 50, his dad Richard (dick)died shortly before her with Ashma - bought on by the stress of it all. I was about to send the photo's and have got a virus on my pc. I am writing on my laptop now. You must have been about 43 when you had your son, and my Lee was 43, his son is 6 weeks old now. As soon as I can get rid of the virus I will send the photo's.Juliex

yes it would be nice to see some photos you never know it may jog my old grey matter!
my dad was diagnosed with dimentia about 3 weeks before he died, He had allways dreaded getting it and i think it was a blessing for him that he did not to have to really suffer it, he had fluid on the lungs, and we took him against his will i might add to A&E and was atmitted but in the end he was too weak to clear it,the hospital had wanted to send him home on the tuesday, i complained that he needed a full assesment first but they had no option after i got the social servicies involved and on the wednesday they told me he had at best weeks to live! so i basically moved into the hospital and had the most rewarding days ever, sharing his last hours with him almost 24/7 either the highs or lows, i didnt tell him till the end he was not going to pull through but was holding his hand as he passed.
I tried my best to get a milk float to be a hearse but health and safety at the dairy said no.
ok i work from home all week but will try to get all my info out that i have regarding the family history so far but im affraid its not a lot.
so many other people are you currently getting info from?

Hi David,
Yes we do live in Park Road Dartford, and I think your house is about 6 up from Mcleod rd. co-op. Your Dad was Milkman for the coop for many years. My Mother in law (Ada Madely) worked in the co-op as supervisor before she became ill with pre-senile dementia, and Richard (Dick) her husband was a plumber with the co-op. I will send you some photo's via e-mail, you may then remember them. Julie.

Hi Jackie,
The last message was meant for me, as we are related in some way to David, my husbands mothers name was Madeley and Davids parents and grandparents were at my wedding in 1965.
I have the 1891 census where Arthur E born 1877 was living with his father David, and the 1911 census where Arthur born 1897 is listed as nephew to Frederick and Elizabeth, but I dont have the 1901 census. It is very confusing, I have done a family tree on Genes reunited, but not sure I have the facts right... Julie

Even though we come from limerick which is just 10 mins drive away. My grandparents used to live in 3 Old Thomondgate Limerick. That house was knocked years ago.

David this just gets better and better. In the 1901 census your grandad is down as a brother and there is also an older Arthur who was a brother. But the 1911 census show your Arthur living with Frederick and Elizabeth and now listed as a nephew. So who were his parents do you know. We'd have to access his birth certificate to establish this. I love the mystery. My won grandfather David Madeley had a daughter that none of the family knew about before he married my Nana. This was when he lived in England in the late 1930's. We only found out about her five years ago and unfortunately she had passed away a few months before that. He went to his grave with that secret. Its amazing you look at your grandparents as pillars of virtue and the time they lived in so straight laced and then when you dig around you realise they were human too and had secrets.

Do you have any children yourself. I have 2 sisters one with 3 kids and one with just one like myself. As I said my brother is a lot younger than us at 24 so no kids there yet. As my fathers brother George never married we are the only Madeleys in Ireland. George has lived in London since the 1960's and worked for Ford and was a court clerk up to retirement. He plans on returning home soon to live. He wants to be nearer family in his old age. As kids all the cousins were close and we holidayed together every year. We're a bit scattered now but meet up at weddings and things and its great the way we can all just pick up and get on. I only wish my mothers side of the family were as good.
Let me know if you manage to get Arthurs birth cert.

Keep in touch, Jackie

Hi Jackie here, David has been in touch with me just yesterday. He say my message on the boards. I'll tell him that we have made contact. His dad was Arthur and his grandad was also Arthur. He's trying to put things together also. The stars must have alined for the Madeley family. We need to establish what happened to the other Arthur Madeley listed in the 1901 census as brother and head of household. This puzzles me. In the 1911 census it says young Arthur is living with Frederick and Elizabeth and is their nephew. So who was Arthurs parents? Their older brother George who was born in India along with my great grandfather married an english woman and they emigrated to Canada. His granddaughter has made contact with me her name is McMillan. I'll Root out the detail and pass them on.

Hi David,
I am sorry that you dad passed away, I thought he may have as I never got a xmas card this year. He has sent one every year. I was married to Andy(Derek)Anderson, but unfortunatlely now divorced.Andys parents lived in Congress road and when we married we lived in Knee hill crescent. Andys parents were Richard Anderson and Ada Madeley, they both died before they were 50 very sad. My two sons were born about the same time as you and I remebered your mum well. Mark is 45 and has 3 children and 1 grandson. Lee who is nearly 44 has just had his first baby. It is good that you live in the house now, your mum and dad always made us welcome there. I have started to look at the family tree for the boys and Lee said his dad would be interested to find out more. I live in Dartford, so does Mark and Lee. Their dad lives in Higham. We are related, but I cant work it out yet.
If you give me your e-mail address I will send you the bit that I have done so far. Glad to hear from you.

Hi,
I found out most of the older information from Find my Past.
However. out of the two children that Richard and Ada had, Keith unfortunatley died when he was about 5. Derek married Julie Anderson in 1965 (that is me). We had two children but now are divorced. I am researching this for my two grown up children and my ex husband who wanted to find out more information. I hve also found out that Arthur Madeley married an Ada Grimsley. It appears that two Grimsley sisters and one grimsley brother married 2 Madeley brothers and one sister. It got very confusing researching this. I have my family tree on the Genes Reunited site.I am trying to get in touch with David Madeley whom we were related to.I sent him a message via this site.

I started researching my side last year and managed to get so far and hit a wall so I shelved it for a while. I'm delighted to hear from you. My father is Roger Madeley son of David Madeley who was a son of John Madeley. John Madeley was born in India while his father served in the army. His brother George was also born there and the rest of the family were born in the Uk Arthur S. Madeley born 1873, Elizabeth M. born 1875, Grace born 1879, Frederick born 1882 and another Arthur born 1896. This Arthur is listed also as a brother like Arthur S is. My fathers grandfather John came to Ireland working and met and married my great grandmother. The family lived in Limerick and my father can remember Arthur and Ada visiting.
My father has one brother George who never married and four sisters Mary, Margie, Frances and Breda. Roger my father has three daughters and one son. So unless my brother has a son the Madeley name will not continue (No pressure) as we say to him. I would love to hear any other information you may find out about the family. My name is Jackie Butler, I am married to Terence Butler and we have one son Teige who will be 18 this year. I was born in 1969. As John Madeley was the only one of the family to come to Ireland there is only so much info I can get here. Maybe you will have more success in the UK. I lived there in the late 1980's in Hertfordshire and loved it. I still have quite a few friends that I keep contact with through facebook. Looking forward to hearing from you.
Hi Delighted to hear from you. The information I have found re: Frederick Madeley is that he married Harriet Grimsley in 1918. They had a daughter Ada Ellen Madeley in March 1919. She married Richard Anderson and had two children Keith and Derek. Keith married Jill Bowen and Derek married Julia C. Lawerence. From what I've managed to do find out Grace Madeley Frederick's sister married a Henry Grimsley who appears to be Harriets brother. She sadly died in 1923 aged 44. Any other information you might have would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Arthur,

My name is Jackie Butler formerly Madeley. My Great grandfather John Madeley was the eldest child of the family you mentioned. There was also a boy named George. Their father was David Madeley and his wife was Ann Hills. I have just recently started looking up the family. My Great grandfather came to Ireland and married and had a family here. We have little or none family history to pull from so I have been trowelling through the census. My father Roger Madeley says he can vaguely remember visitors coming over from England and once they went to visit an elderly couple named Arthur and Ada. Maybe you might know these people. I would be delighted to exchange any information that I have. Please contact me with any info you may have.

Regards,
Jackie Madeley

I am not sure if I am related to your Madeley's or not, but I am trying to find the father of Lillian Madeley born approx 1890,Sydeham, Kent who married Frederick Arthur Blackman in the first quarter of 1915 at St. Bartholomew Church, Sydeham, Kent. Frederick died a year later in Rouen, France, fighting the German's. My maiden name is Blackman, and I was born in London, England, but am now living in Nova Scotia, Canada. There doesn't seem to be too many Madeley's in the Kent/London area, so hope you may have more info. Maybe your Grandfather and Lillian were sublings, or cousins> Valerie

Hello Mari
It would be great if we could arrange to meet up locally!
Your ancestor Frances Madeley née Smith was born in Sutton on the Hill, Derbyshire, in 1803, but I don't know anything about her ancestors. She married William Madeley (of Yoxall) in Sutton in 1834. William's ancestors were farmers in Yoxall from 1664; prior to that they were in Doveridge, Derbyshire.
That's all close to where I live, so I'd be happy to show you round. Give me a call on 0771 261 4175 when you know when you're able to get here. Lesley lives nearby as well.

Stephen

PS: I don't think there's any connection to Gnosall.

Hello Madeley Family,
I've been in touch with some of you before, I think (Lesley and Stephen?).
As it happens, I'm in England at the moment and may have a day when I could go up to Staffordshire and look around. Thought I would head to Gnosall and Yoxall, as that is where I gather (with some help from Lesley, Stephen and others and the 1851 and 61 census recordings) my Madeley family originated. I thought I'd try to take a peak at the Parish records of St. Lawrence Church in Gnosall. I've only got a day, but if there is information I can gather for you, I would be willing to try to fit it in. One person I'm trying to find out more about is the spouse of one of the William Madeleys (who seem to be legion). Her name was Frances and she was born in Sutton, Derbyshire in about 1803. If anyone knows more about her, that would be most helpful.
Thanks,
Mari

Hello. I have recently been passed a very large autograph book containing hundreds of signatures of the great and the good. In the course of researching the names, I came across your request for information about Frederick Madeley. He has signed this book giving his address as OX Hill, Handsworth. Its a strange book as it contains the signatures of royalty, industrialists, politicians etc. There is a column on the right hand side that gives the number of copies of an unknown book which has been ordered by the signee! I will keep on researching to unravel the mystery. My email address is crandaw@btinternet.com. Best wishes Andrew

Maurice James Madeley was my uncle. His wife was Kathleen H Madeley. They were both killed crossing the highway on Vancouver Island by a speeding car. I have other information on this family if you are interested. Daryl

Hello John, I can't go back any further, but I have a Joseph Madeley born about 1824 in Dalbury Lees. His son was Philip Madeley born 1851 & Philips son was Francis Madeley born 1890. Francis married my grandmas sister Emily Allen in 1920 at Dalbury church. Am I on the right track ?.

Hi Nate,

I am tracking down family of Helen Adeline Grant (I think her sister is my ancestor). You mentioned that there are tombstones in the Madeley cemetery for in-laws of the Madeley's. Is there a transcription of the headstones for the cemetery somewhere online, or do you have information you could help me with?

The surnames I know of are Palmer, Grant, Smith, Boon(e) and Gem (could be Ginn, Gunn, Jaham).

Chris
