Jack:
My Maguires came to MA in the 1850s also.
John Maguire married Margaret Weir in County Antrim, Ireland in 1836. The wedding was held at the Rosemary Street Presbyterian Church in Belfast. (Source 2. Mettam. Northern Ireland Marriages, Volume 2) Their firstborn son, James was born in Ireland and then the three of them emigrated to Lowell, MA in 1850. Two two years later they all went to Providence, RI and nobody knows why.
John H. Maguire (1853-1924), son of James Maguire and Ann Ahearn, later became the Harbourmaster of the Port of Providence.
Let me know if any of this sounds familiar.
