In the Maguire family I'm researching in County Cork the given name seems to have been passed down from Richard Maguire (1677-1749) but may have occurred earlier, the given names in these families don't seem to be typically Irish.
I would like to correspond with anyone researching these Maguire families that lived in County Cork before 1750.

Charles Maguire, Kiltyclogher, County Leitrim, Ireland

Looking for any information about Charles Maguire, a farmer who married in the mid-1800's. Children included; Francis, Dennis, John, Terence, Charles, Bernard, Thomas and Margaret. Particularly interested in Terence (b.1867, Kiltyclogher)who married Kate Bredin, December 1892, who had only one child (Terence Jnr.)who emigrated to England.

Sounds like my paternal grandmother's (Mary Maguire)parents. Greenpoint/Williamsburg was home base. My grandmother Mary Maguire married Benjamin Ryan.

Hi my name is Joseph Hogan, my Great grandfather was James S Beattie had two brothers one sister we know for sure, Joseph, John, and Mary A all born late 50's early sixties.
Fathers name James mother Ellen.. Mary A Married Dennis McGuire, Mary's brother James served Spanish American War 1898, Died 1898 Greensville South Carolina.Mary had numerous kids. My father told us he beleaves only (3) lived to adulthood. Last known address my father new was 73 North 4th street greenpoint. If any of this sounds like it's your relatives please respond.. My 3rd great grandfather was John Maguire who lived in Milford, MA around that time because he and his wife had my great great grandfather there in 1854, William J Maguire. Does this help? I know there was a john Jr. as well. Not sure about a Thomas.

Maguire - Elizabeth Lily

Am trying to trace families/information relating to Elizabeth Lily Gough (nee Maguire). She is my grandmother (My Mum's Mum).
Elizabeth was born in 1910, I don't know where. In 1927, aged 17, she became a Nun, possibly at The Sisters of Charity in Dublin. She left the Order in 1937 and married a John Gough in Paddington, London. They travelled between London and Ireland, having 5 children - Elizabeth Lily - known as Lil, Mary, John, Sheila and Esther (Mym Mum). Eliabeth Lily Gough (nee Maguire) was admitted to a Middlesex Hospital in May 1946, and died in February 1947. She is buried in Kensel Green Cemetery, London. Her death is registered twice, once as Elizabeth Gough and the other as Lily Gough - why would this be?
Her father was James Maguire and a farmer - sadly I have no further details of him.
My Mum (Esther) and her brother John were both born in Ireland. Esther in Dublin.
I am new to all of this, and any help would be greatly appreciated. Many Thanks in advance.

Thanks for this - can you point me to where you found this information? I am still very new at this.

The only information I have discovered so far relates to the application for a passport in New York in August 1892.

I have just dicovered (in family papers) reference to the fact that two children died in a heat wave (presumeably 1896)

Am not related. When they arrived in New York, they had four children with them -- Mary, aged 6; Sophia(?), aged 4; Infant daughter, aged 10 months; and, Frieda, aged 2.

Thank you so much. It looks like it is the same person. She has given her date of birth as about 1859 on census forms in the UK. I presume when I get a copy of her Marriage Cert. more information will become available. I also presume Great Granmma will be on a passanger list travelling to UK. She always used her married name Josephine C L Loehner then after she was listed as widow Clara Maguire.

According to the marriage entry her name was Josephine Maria Maguire, there a baptism for her 1857 in St Patrick's R.C. church Belfast, father John & mother 1st name Mary

Josephine C L Maguire (great granma)born in Belfast 1858 she married John Otto Loehner of Nurberg Germany they moved to New Jersey with their 3 children, a son Henry was born there in 1890. I have traced her back to Liverpool West Derby (1911 censes)WHERE SHE THEN CALLED HERSELF CLARA.She listed herself as widowed and had reverted to her maiden name MAGUIRE. Two of her children Nina & Frieda were at the house that night also their servant Alice Clayton from Warrington.

I do believe she had some siblings in Belfast but I do not know any of the names but Alice comes to mind as having died as a baby there.

I would be so happy to get the informatin I need to fill in the gaps.

I have just commenced a family tree and believe my husbands grandmother came from Co. Fermanagh the following is all I know:
Name Josephine C Maguire married John O Loehner emigrated from Liverpool on 24th June 1887 to New York my father-in-law Henry Otto was born in New Jersey in 1890. Their other children: Mary Josephine, Frieda and Carolina were born in England.

I would so love to receive any information that will progress my family tree.

Looking for information on Margaret Maguire, born about 1899 in Dublin, Ireland. She married Patrick McWilliams on 9 Oct 1920 in Belfast at St Patrick's Catholic Church. They had 8 children, Catherine, Maureen, Patrick, Hugh, Joseph M, John, Matthew, & Cecil Brendan. A number of the children emigrated to the USA. Patrick & Margaret never left Ireland.

Did you know of any family of Edna's?

My mother is 74 now and I would really love to find someone that knows something of her family or any family that is still living. Not having her mother in her life has been hard on my mom so would be a great thing if I could find relatives for her.
I am going to ask my mother for the marriage certificate as I believe this is where we left off.

also on l s d site i see abirth of michael carney born on the 12-8-1869 his dads name was john his mothers maiden

I live in Providence, RI. A second cousin of mine who lives in County Cavan, Ireland, who grew up just outside of Scotshouse, sent me a link to your post about Hugh maguire of Scotshouse.

One set of my great, great grandparents lived in Scotshouse. Their names were Patrick Clerkin and Rose Smyth. They married in 1850. Patrick Clerkin had a sister named Susan Clerkin who married Hugh Maguire in 1848. They had at least five children named Hugh, Francis, Mary Anne, Sarah and Edward. I suspect this may be the Hugh Maguire you are looking for.

My grandmother emigrated from Ireland in the late 1890's and went to Garrison , NY, on the Hudson, where her mother's sister Tess (Clerkin) Haight lived. My grandmother left New York and moved to Bristol, Rhode Island. She met my grandfather, Luke Cassidy, in Rhode Island. They married in 1900 and settled in Providence.
We have often wondered why my Grandmother moved from New York to Rhode Island. We assumed she had some relatives here.

Recently, a first cousin unearthed a stash of old family papers relating to my grandparents. Among them was a record of people who attended my Grandmother's funeral in February, 1942. Listed among the attendees was Mrs. Mary A. Maguire and family. Another Maguire family was also listed.

My own mother recalled meeting a woman at my grandparents' house who was named Margaret Dodge, whom she believed was my Grandmother's relation. She recalled that Margaret's maiden name had been Maguire. She believed the Maguires were related to Clerkins from New York.

I did a bit of research on Ancestry and concluded that Margaret (Maguire) Dodge was probably the daughter of James and Anna Maguire, who lived in Providence.

My grandfather, James B. Maguire, Sr. b.1891 was son of Patrick F Maguire, b.1849 in County Cavan, Ireland. His Aunt was Ellen who was 8 years younger than Patrick. I am named for that Aunt.

They married in the same church 1914? The witness was Ellie Maguire. The fathers name was James a farmer.

My grandfather, James B. Maguire, Sr was Helen Maguire Blake's brother. Helen is listed in my father's baby book as a Godparent along with Dr. William Maguire. My grandfather was born in 1891 and died in 1990. He had one child, my father, James B. Maguire, Jr. (1919-2003). My father had 3 children, James B Maguire, III; Sharon Maguire Steelman and me, Jane Maguire Davis.

Was Helen known as "Nolly"?

I have Benjamin McGuire b1814, Cavan, Ire m Elizabeth Gibson.
They had 5 or 6 children that were born in Ontario; Thomas 1838, John 1842, Margaret 1843, Sarah 1845, Tessuma 1847 and Jemima 1851.

This family was living in Howick, Huron, Ontario, Canada in 1871 until 1899 when Benjamin passed.

Hi I think that we are looking for the same person. I have an Uncle Ken, my fathers name was Herb. Short for Herbert. I also have un Uncle named Mickey as well. He had 2 children Susan and Barry. I have a brother named Danny a sister named Heather. Shawn was my cousin. I have no contact with any of the Maguire family now. My Mother took us away when was about 2 years old. My father Herb took my brother Danny. I do know that Mickey passed away about 2 years ago. His wife's name was Shirley. I know my father remarried,to whom I am not sure nor do I know where he is now. Some day I hope to meet my brother Danny. I hope this is of some help, if not you have got to chat with another person in the family. Oh I was born in 1964 in Windsor Ontario.

hi, I dont know if I can help at all but my father was born in nabraska in 1935 he passed in 2005 and most of his side of the family is still in that area. Our family is very large I just dont think anyone has every taken the time to track the name all the way back. I would love to know what you know. maybe we are related? im from england my family descend from irland but way back when england invaded, my family ancesters took up arms with the campbles and defeated them, how ever england proved to much and returned, the maguires were the last clan to lay down arms, check out maguires flight of the earls im sure you will find it interesting,

The Maguire/macguire/mcguire name originates from Enniskillen, originaly spelt MAGUIDIR MEANING SON OF DARK ONE, THE CHANGE IN THE SPELLINGS CAME ABOUT THROUGH CATHOLIC AND PRODISTANT SEPERATION AND FINALLY THROUGH ANGLINISM, MY FAMILY KEPT THE ORIGINAL MAGUIRE NAME HOWEVER THERE ARE STILL THOSE IN MY FAMILY IN SCOTLAND THAT HAVE MCGUIRE, YOU HAVNT MENTIONED YOUR FIRST NAME THERE IS A GOOD CHANCE WE ARE RELATED, PS DID KNOW THAT THE MAGUIRES RULED ENNISKILLEN WE ARE DESCENDED FROM ONE OF THE GREATEST KINGS OF IRELAND.

I'd like to help but your message is a bit unclear, because there were two messages prior to yours. The first is from me. The second and longer one is from Bernie O'Connor, down under in Australia.

You ask about "offspring they had". Who are "they"?

My GM Mary Anne Stones was an only child, as far as I know. Her father probably remarried after her mother died, so she may have had step-siblings.
