Hello, Jeanne. Thanks for responding to my inquiry. I've read several of your older posts but I don't think we are researching the same line. I realize the locations are quite close, but while my Mahoneys appear in Brasher, NY as early as 1870 census - the others are still residing in Canada. It's very difficult since they all have similar names. Since the records are vague in those earlier censuses, I don't know if I'll ever find true immigration information. Thanks anyway!

My Mahoneys were from Co. Cork and came to Prescott, Ontario, Canada about 1840. They were cornelius [1790-1872]and his wife, Frances "Fanny" Regan,[1790-186?] and children Jeremiah, John, Sylvester, Susan Catherine, adn Mary. Do you realize that Prescott iis across the St. Lawrence river from Brasher? do you think ot know if they were related? I have been trying to fiond this out for quite a while.
Mahoney's Camden NJ

I recently discovered that my grandfather Michael J. Mahoney b.1891 in NYC, went to live with relatives in Camden about 1915 to 1917. His parents were William Mahoney & Anna Morgan. Michael had two sisters Margaret b.1895 & Nellie b. 1896. Does anyone have these relatives in their trees? Michael was a blacksmith originally but went to work at DuPont making black gunpowder for WW1. He was also in Vaudeville as an entertainer singing, dancing and playing piano. Would love to hear more about him and any family connections out there. Thanks.
At Hornell, Steuben County, New York, USA in 1868:

In matrimony were joined Daniel, son of Michael MAHONY and Margaret CARROLL, and Mary, daughter of Patrick CONNORS and Catherine GORMAN; witnessed by Dennis GORMAN and Eliza[beth] REGAN.

Daniel Mahony was more commonly known as Daniel MAHONEY and Mary Connors and her brothers were more commonly known as O’CONNOR.

Thanks to the website of Limerick Genealogy, an accredited IFHF (Irish Family History Foundation) County Genealogy Centre…

http://limerick.rootsireland.ie/

…I have recently discovered the origins of Daniel & Mary (CONNORS/O’CONNOR) MAHONEY/MAHONY in Kilbehenny Parish, County Limerick:

Daniel MAHONY was baptized in 1833 as the son of Michael MAHONY & Margaret CARROLL.

Patrick Connors and Catherine Gorman were married in 1836.

Kilbehenny lies in the southeast corner of County Limerick and borders the Counties of Cork and Tipperary.

In hopes of learning more about the MAHONY, CONNORS and GORMAN families of Kilbehenny, I have extracted all of the baptismal and marriage index records for these surnames. I have also purchased select records from the online index that I hoped would reveal more details about my family—some proved to be matches and others did not. I have compiled this information in a Microsoft Excel worksheet so that all the information can be filtered and sorted in various ways.

I have invested a significant number of Euros and hours in this project, but I will share a copy of my database in Excel, PDF or a browser-friendly format freely in exchange for any information that you may have on anyone who may descend from the CARROLL, CONNORS/O’CONNOR, GORMAN or MAHONEY/MAHONY of Kilbehenny (or neighboring parishes in the Counties of Cork and Tipperary) and/or Hornell.

Please contact me privately at perry@streeter.com to share your information and obtain a copy of my database.

Thanks for your help!

Perry

Perry Streeter (perry@streeter.com)
www.perry.streeter.com

I am looking for information on Clarence R. MAHONEY. We think it was Mahoney, anyway. He was born 7 November 1936 in Des Moines, IA and 'adopted' around 1948 (not sure if there's any legal paperwork to that effect, though), and moved to Missouri with Louis & Mildred (MARTIN) MANHEIM. We don't know who his birth parents were. Some family lore says he was part Cherokee, but not sure how accurate that is.

Any information would be appreciated.

William Mahoney Jumped Through Train Window In 1912 MN

I am not researching this person, only passing on an article in the history section of the McLeod County Chronicle, Glencoe, MN newspaper. Brownton Bulletin archives 100 yrs. ago: Article is as follows:

"A rather peculiar accident occurred in the village last Sunday morning about 6 o'clock when a young man on the coast flyer aroused from his slumbers and plunged headlong through the coach windows while the train was traveling at a rate of speed of about 30 miles per hour. The coach from which he lunged had just crossed the creek bridge and he went down the 20-foot empankment, fractruing his skull, shoulder and right arm. The train immediately stopped and picked up the man and transported him to the county hospital in Glencoe, where he subsequently died. We haven't been able to learn much about the accident, other than the man's name was William Mahoney, and he was on his way from North Dakota, where he was homesteaded, and was bound for Chicago to visit his parents. He was 24 years of age."

Same paper, but from the Stewart Tribune archives, 100 yrs ago.

"William Mahoney of Chicago jumped through the window of one of the coaches comprising Sunday morning's eastbound train just as it had passed through Brownton. The man was picked up and carried to the hospital in Glencoe, where he died. It is thought he was demented."

He emigrated to the US in 1900 and settled in Washington state.
Pat was shot in a bar in Butte Montana in 1904. I dug up the newspaper accounts of the murder & trial.
Would love to share any family info with you.

I have been researching the Hennessy's from Belle Plaine, Derrynane area of Minnesota. My great great grandmother was Ellen Hennessy Sullivan Murphy Jago. She came to Derrynane, near Belle Plaine around 1857 and was first married to James Sulllivan. Earlier posts referred to some of her siblings...here is what I know. Her sister was Catherine Hennessy who married Denis Connolly, and according to census data, their farm was near Ellen and John Murphy's farm in Derrynane. Their brother Patrick married Mary Waters and farmed near Belle Plaine and is in the 1880 census there. They had another brother Dennis who live in PA for many years and was briefly in the LeSuer county area around 1880. His last child was born in MN. The Dennis Hennessy family moved to West Superior, WI, and Dennis and his sons worked as foremen for NW Coal, and one son worked for R&L Coal. Two of the daughters were dressmakers. There are many photos of the Dennis Hennessy family on a public family tree on ancestry. com. There was another Hennessy brother named John for whom I have no history. If anyone has photos of Ellen Hennessy, b. 1829, Cork, Ireland, and died 1925 in Derrynane, MN, I would very much appreciate copies!

Hi Val,

My Grandmother Ellen Gertrude Mahoney was from Cat's Cove. She came to the US in 1918 and changed her name to Helen. She married my grandfather, Thomas White who was from Colliers! My uncle Pete (Phillip) Mahomey lived with Grandmom Rachael (Skane) Mahoney on the family home there. Pete's Meadow is named after Uncle Pete. I think some distant cousins took over the property when Uncle Pete died. It looks like we may be related AND I want to come visit my cousins. Please get back to me. Kathy

I don't know if this is the same family, but I have a death certificate of James Hennessy died 6th July 1891 and his parents were Patrick Hennessy, farmer who married a Mary Mahoney. James died at age 64 years in Bald Hills, Queensland, Australia. James and Margaret Hennessy had 9 children. James had married Margaret Dunlea (died 8 March 1891)in Mitcheltown, Cork, Ireland. James was born in Kildare, Cork Ireland. From calculations - James born around 1827, Margaret born around 1829 and married 1847. Moved to Australia in 1865. They were both buried at Nudgee Cemetery, Brisbane, Queensland.

My great grand father's (John H. Garey) brother would have been Barney Garey, Jr father of Michael.

John H. Garey b. 1960 in Moira New York was a prominent farmer and married Mary Ann Driscoll born about 1866 in New York. Mary Ann was daughter of a Richard Driscoll from Ireland and Ann (? maiden name) born in New York in 1838. I am searching for parents of Ann.

John H. Garey was one of the younger children of Barney Garey (born in Ireland around 1815) and Bridget Garey. (some records have last name as Gary or Garry).

I do think with enough research we will learn that most of the Irish in Franklin County in the mid- 1800s through 1920 are related.

Does anyone have any info on this family. Josephine J (maybe Joan) Mahoney (maiden name Sullivan) born 1883 in Ireland and died in 1986 in Lawrence, MA. She was married to John J Mahoney, born in Ireland and left the family and went to possibly Glen Cove, Long Island where it was heard he died around 1938.
John's father was William Mahoney (1856-1929) born in Ireland, died in Lawrence. His wife was Ellen Mahoney, born in Ireland and died ??
John had a sister Beatrice born in 1895 in Cork and died in 1970 in Lawrence, MA. She was married to a man named Dick Pierce.
Is any of this familiar to anyone?
