Hi William
I did get an invitation, but when I go to the tree all I get is a question asking me to select a home person. Haven't seen that before. So I am wondering if you have set up yourself as the home person. So I don't know how to get into the tree.
Will try a few things.

Hello Gary
ah yes, I see Matthew m.Sally in 1852 at Ashton under Lyne. Unfortunately I can't access ancestry.com files as I don't have a pay account. The only way to access is if you invite me.
I've sent you an invite to my MAIDEN family tree, you can contribute if you like. You should get an email.
Kind regards
William

Hi Elaine
I think we've drawn a blank; the only connection I can see we have is through the MAIDEN family at Oldham.
My HARTLEY family have no connections with Yorkshire at all; they were at Manchester during most of the 19thC after moving from Blackburn after 1820. They are not related to other HARTLEY families in the area [proved by DNA].
To find any possible link between our CLAYTON and BARDSLEY families we'd have to do a lot more research.
William
By the way, I don't know if I told you, but I'm on Canada's west coast, so there's an 8 or 9 hour time difference. There is another contact on the British Columbia/Alberta border with whom I am working so hopefully, we can all get to the bottom of this. I need to do a lot of research on this.
Did George HARTLEY m.Annie in 1906? there is an entry for 1909 at Dewsbury, Yorkshire?? [George Frederick HARTLEY].
I see there is a Jenny HARTLEY b.1910 Blackburn??
I also have HARTLEY-CLAYTON link at Manchester [James HARTLEY b.1830 at Manchester m.Mary CLAYTON b.1828 at Stalybridge, Ashton under Lyne] that looks likely the same family. Her parents were John and Betty CLAYTON]
bye for now, William

Truly, you are making my head spin! James maiden's father was Thomas Maiden (1832 - 1899) m. to ann Houghton (1836-1878). William Maiden was brother of James, married to Elizabeth A, whom I have yet to research. James married Betsy Clayton, whose sister Emma was Annie Schofield's mother. Schofield married George Hartley in 1906. Are you saying that I need to introduce yet another Schofield into the Maiden line-up? I am having difficulty squeezing Frank Maiden in properly...I think I need an assistant! Annie became pregnant at 16, Elliot was 22, and probably introduced through James and Betsy. I believe the Maidens did not approve, and blamed Annie entirely. But really, without Elliot and Annie, I wouldn't be here. Elaine

I'm at work now, but will check later. I live on the west coast of Canada so it's 2 pm Thurs as I write this. I have a William Maiden b1863 m to Elizabeth A b1862 producing Arthur b1890 married to Matilda Bardsley b1885. My g-mother Elizabeth Williams m Frank Maiden (b Frank Clayton Schofield) in 1926 or 1928 and recalled a visit by a Arthur and Matilda in early 1950s (both elderly). You are a Hartley, so I'm thinking that Annie Schofield married your ancestor after Frank was given to Annie's aunt Betsy nee Clayton and James Maiden. Poor Annie, who was quite the beauty evidently (i'd love a picture), was 16 or 17 when she gave birth to Frank out of wedlock. The Maiden family refused to allow her to see Frank, and blamed her for the subsequent suicide of Elliot Maiden in 1909. All the family stories (and there are many)bear this out. Can you let me know the Hartley side since 1906? I know Annie had at least one daughter Jenny. Thanks so much, Elaine

Birth parents as follows: Elliot Maiden, son of Sampson (Samson), and Annie Schofield. Birth name: Frank Clayton Schofield. The adoption made him difficult to trace. Birth parents were actually from either side of James Maiden/Betsy Clayton marriage.

Thanks for your help. Elaine

Your best bet is to get a copy of Frank's Birth Ceretificate - (see Free BMD Frank Maiden - Born Wigan 1907) This should establish if there is any link between him and Moses. I hope there is - finding Maidens is like looking for neeedles in haystacks! Let me know if I can be of any further help.

Andy

Here we are 8.5 years after your message. My mother's family name is Maiden, and she is seeking connections. Her father was Frank Maiden, born in 1907, probably in Wigan. He was possibly adopted by his paternal grandparents; I believe his mother's maiden name to be Cross. Frank married my grandmother Elizabeth Williams in 1928, and my mother and aunt were raised in Bolton. My mother remembers an Oldham connection, a grocery business, and the additional name Scholfield. Could this be of any help to you? If you can help me as well, that would be much appreciated. My mother will be 82 soon, and she is very interested in learning more. Thank you! Elaine

Hello my name is Janice Mitchell and I read your posting (above) on Ancestry. I’m the grand daughter of Scott Lafayette, son of Henry & Clarissa Lafayette.
Is this Rachel you reference above the same daughter of Henry and Clarissa? I found her as a sibling to Scott Lafayette on the 1900 census; she was 21 and he 19. Other siblings were Lohman, Frederick, Ely, Gabriel, Jackson and Hester.

If you are related to her then it’s possible we are related. There are grandsons of Scott Lafayette all living in New Iberia, LA and grand daughters living in Calif. Scott Lafayette (Rachel’s brother) had 3 children, Scott II, Mary 7 Elenora all now deceased.

I’d love hearing from you.You can reach me at Parts922@aol.com. Have a great day....

Also in the household were nephew and niece Harold and Nellie Watts (both children aged 1 and 4 respectively). These children were both born in Hume, Manchester. I wondered if you have encountered any of these individuals. Moses Maiden later moved his family to Oldham where I beleive he opened a shop selling groceries.

Wow! What a find! I haven't seriously researched my family but I was just casually looking to see what I could find when I came across your post. I am Vicki Maiden, Kyle's daughter. Eva was my aunt. My parents divorced when I was young and I didn't have alot of contact with my Dad or his family. Both of my parents are dead now so I don't have anyone to ask questions about my relatives. I do remember Eva but not well. There was also another sister, Bertie. I forget how many brothers Dad had and their names but I did know Buck and I remember the name Hubert. I have some old pictures of Dad's family (mother, brothers & sisters) but I'm not sure who is who. I live in Pa. and haven't been to Virginia in years but I would like to go back soon. Please reply and we'll see what else we can come up with.

Do you know Elisha's parents?

I'm trying to find a Daniel MAIDEN who married a Junia/Juney LEHEW in Shendanodah County, Virginia, January 24, 1787.

I've got a Daniel MADEN on Frederick County, VA tax lists,
1790, 1791 & 1794, but then I loose them.
