Mais family. My great grandmother was margaret mais, they lived in sand creek,mn, just a couple miles from Jordan,mn.
They were farmers. The family came around 1850 to 1860. There was two brothers who married two sisters they met on the boat over from Germany. One went to Ne and I don't know how many years they lived there. There was a short statement in msn about them. My great grandma had a brother by the name of george and he married a Catherine and they had a son george,jr. I have been trying to find out more information about my family. Some of the mais are buried in calvary cemetery in Jordan,mn the catholic cemetery and the other cemetery is St joseph in the sand creek,scott,mn area. Let me hear from you.

Yes. My father is Louis Mais born of Reuben Alphonso Mais he( Reuben) died after I was born. I heard he worked in Panama at the canal like so many men of that time sending money back to their families. He was married to Margaret Merchant sister of "Aunt Gwen" Gwendolyn Merchant, Myrtle Merchant, and Adella Merchant.
Reuben had several brothers, John I believe, Kenneth Mais(died at 83), Lasalle, and perhaps anther brother. My father had three sisters one is deceased Grace Mais, the other two Carol and Winnie are still alive. The family ties on my father side are Fowlin-Merchant-Mais- Hutchinson and Jarrett on my mother's side.

i know your my cousin, because i aske your father about my grandfather. my mother, Louis sister is also Mais. I hear conflicting stories about this alphonso sometimes. I will as aunt gwen. this is very strange i am seeing you here, i am trying to build a digital family tree.

My name is Christopher Mais. Live in the Bronx/ First generation born in US in 1971. My dad is Louis Mais was born in Kingston Jamaica back in 1937 and his dad was Reuben Alfonso Mais who died a year after I was born who had brothers Lasalle Mais, Jack Mais, and Kenneth. Reuben worked on the Pnamae Canal with other Jamaicans sending money home to his wife and kids. I have cousins Andrew and Thomas Mais who lived up until I last checked on Long Island

I'm Jason Mais, son of Geoffrey [Michael] Mais, his father is also named Geoffrey Mais - I believe we are all descendants of John Mais. We used to live in Jamaica, I am now in living in London, UK; Michael is living in Vancouver, Canada.

Have some info on the Mais'. If you have the research done by Walter Mais (1973)you have what I have - if not will share. Elizabeth was my grandmother's sister and August was my grandfather's brother.

I would very much like to locate anyone who has access to the 75th Anniversary book issued on behalf of Immaculate Conception Church, 31st St. and Aberdeen, Chicago. It contains graduating class pictures, one of which includes my father. There are other pictures of ancestors.
My father was in the Class of 1914. I would like to make copies of the photos.

Hi, my name is Linda Mais and your story sounds like my grandfather. His name was Charles Mais and he was born in New York City in 1903. He had 3 brothers in Canada with the names of Mathew, George, Edward. I am looking for family and/or origins of my grandfathers family and where they were originally from and who they were. I remember my grandfather speaking French though and always thought he said his father was from France and mother was from England (or vice versa).

The 1920 Census for Santiago, Dominican Republic, Headquarters, 4th Regiment, U.S.M.C., Sheet 20A, lists: NIERSBACK (Niersbach), Joseph, a private in the U. S. Marines. His address in Chicago was 3515 (Illegible) Ave. He was 19 years of age and born in Illinois of German-born parents. He was single.

I am still looking for any information about Johanna MAIS, my greatgrandmother, who married Matthias NIERSBACH in Chicago. She was born abt. 1837 and died in Chicago on 21 April 1877.

Does anyone know the history of Robert MAIS, age 22, a clerk, who arrived in NYC on 3 November 1858, in First Cabin, aboard the ' Ship Meta' from Bremerhaven. He was said to be from Oldenburg, Bremen, Germany?

These MAIS died in Illinois as indicated below:

Anna, 31 July 1938, at age 80 yrs, 11 mos. & 8 days, a widow. Her husband was Alvin. She was from Stollberg and her maiden name was BOCHMAN.
August, 20 February 1935, at age abt. 63.

The Illinois Secretary of State web site lists these MAIS who have been died over 50 years:

Hi Dick;
It has been awhile since you posted a query regarding Elfrieda Mais. I know a bit about her and have a photo. I was surprised by Tom Schmeh's note that she was actually Mrs. Ray LaPlante---I thought she was the wife of racer John Mais.

As a racing historian I'd be very interested in anything you have dug out on auto racing in Hastings. I probably have a bit on racing here in my files.
