obit fyi - Jean MALLING Doty Petrone , 1917 OH. - 2007 CA.

not related - for your info only

Petrone, Jean Malling

PETRONE-Jean Malling Petrone, passed away peacefully at Villa Gardens, Pasadena on October 14, 2007. Jean was born in Lakewood, Ohio on March 29, 1917 and lived there through high school. She attended Ohio Wesleyan for two years where she became a member of Delta Gamma. This national sorority asked her to help start a chapter at the University of Mississippi, where she then attended and graduated in 1939. She reigned as queen at both universities. After graduation she returned to Lakewood, fell in love with Chuck Doty, marrying him in 1941. While Chuck served in the Army, they had two sons, Charles (Trooper) and David. Chuck died from injuries sustained at the Battle of the Bulge. His best friend, Vic Petrone (and godfather to Trooper), returned from World War II to learn of Chuck's death. Sharing a strong bond and fond memories of Chuck, Jean and Vic's friendship grew into love. They married in 1947 with Vic adopting both boys. They moved to Altadena, California that same year, where they lived until 2001. During those years, they had a son, Jim and daughter, Tori. Jean was an excellent and loving homemaker. She volunteered in numerous neighborhood efforts, namely Luther Burbank PTA, Altadena Guild of Huntington Memorial Hospital, and P.E.O. She served as president during her tenure with each organization. Jean loved to dance. She was accomplished at the piano, a superb bridge player, and a good-spirited and always willing golfer. In her life with Vic, she belonged to the Altadena Town & Country Club and the Annandale Country Club. She had a very strong faith and was a long time member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Pasadena. Praying for others was her passion. One of her favorite sayings to her family and others was, "Angels on your shoulders and God in your heart." Jean will always be remembered for her loving, positive, and selfless manner with her family and friends, reaching all generations. She particularly loved babies and children, never resisting approaching them and their parents with a positive word and a sense of affection. She had a wonderful personality and sense of humor often resembling the great comedienne, Gracie Allen. Jean lost her loving husband of 59 years in October 2006. She is survived by sons David and Jim, her daughter Tori, granddaughters Heather, Keli, Lindsay, Carly, and Amy, and great-granddaughter Madison. Son Trooper passed away in 1990. A memorial service is scheduled Saturday, November 17, 2007 at 11 A.M. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1757 North Lake Avenue, Pasadena, California. 91104. (www.westminsterpasadena.org). Reception will follow in Morrison Hall on the church grounds. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution considerations include Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org), The Wellness Community-Foothills (www.the wellnesscommunity.org) and California P.E.O. Home (700 North Stoneman Avenue, Alhambra, Calif. 91801).
Published in the Pasadena Star-News on 11/4/2007.
