I can't necessarily help you with your search, but I too am searching for info on a Maloney supposedly from Galway.

He was Patrick Maloney born about 1861 in Galway, somewhere, and married to Katherine Mckendrick in county Donegal.

The only info I have on him is from his RIC service. He served in county Leitrim, where my grandfather Martin was born, for about 20 years until he retired in 1920. I know nothing about Patrick's parents or siblings.

If you have additional info on the Galway Maloneys I would love to hear from you.

Mike
Miketmaloney@mediaone.net

I have heard the name James before, but to be honest I don't have alot of information on the Maloney's. I can send you a picture that I have that I believe is Bridget and her family and maybe you can identify your grandfather in it? I will look for it when I get home tonight. Harriet is also familiar and being from Canada would fit as the LaVoie's are from Canada, Louis came down from Canada, could be how he met Bridget?

I know this post is cold, but I've been researching this branch too. Auldy is my great-uncle. If you're interested, I think I've got the Maloneys back to 1775 (Daniel, an Irish sailor, served on a ship contracted to the British, captured en route from Norfolk to Boston and released "to seek his fortune"). I'm struggling to get beyond that.

I have been going through old family pictures and have a large number of unidentified pictures that are probably Maloney relatives. I assume that most are George Henry's family and descendants. George Henry was son of the original Thomas Maloney that came over. If anyone has any pictures where people are identified I would love to here from you. Some are family roupings so even knowing who one person is would get me on track to identifying more.

They were thought to be slaves with a family in upstate Pennsyvania but to this day we have no papers. Now there is only one child left my dad John Westley Maloney born 1926. If anyone could help me find my family orgin I would be so grateful.
Sincerely,
Jo Ann Maloney

I just read the obit, well crap, hits head on the brick wall! it looks like my Ellen/Helen/Ella McDonnell/McDonald who is the daughter of James Mcdonnell/McDonald and Nora Melone/Maloney isnt the same Nora Maloney after all.
My Helen/Ellen/Nellie married a Kelly in 1918. She is same age as your Nellie who married Thomas Henry and her parents are the same age as your James and Nora. So I am back to square one.
Sigh.
Nora's death certificate says labor and pneumonia as cause of death.

Hi Linda,

This is Ray Johnson, Janice forwarded me the link to your message. Nora did marry James McDonald and you have the right family. Her parents were John and Bridget Maloney. Her and Nellie died within two days of one another during the Spanish Flu Epidemic of 1918. I have pictures of their gravesites at Mt. Olivet if you would like them.

Nora died from the Spanish Influenza outbreak of 1918 and is buried with her husband James McDonald and a Eleanor Henry who died on October 14, 1918 just 2 days after Nora did.

According to Nora's Obituary in the Chicago Daily News dated October 14, 1918 is states:

McDonald - Nora (nee Maloney) beloved wife of James McDonald. fond mother of James, John, Irene, Mrs. Thomas Henry and Mrs. Henry Schroll, sister of Mrs. Matthew Shinner, Mrs. George Thompson, Mrs. Joseph Cody and Mrs. Everett Slater, John and Edward Maloney. Funeral from late residence 6328 Bishop St. Wednesday October 16 at 9am to St. Brendan's Church where high mass will be celebrated. Interment at Mount Olivet by autos. Member of the Women's Benefit Association of the Maccabees. Marie Review 142

Either the Eleanor Henry who is buried with her is her daughter Nellie (possibly short for Eleanor) or a granddaughter by Margaret or Nellie and husband Thomas Henry.

Ray Johnson familyhistory50@yahoo.com

Sorry I misled you, cuz. The husband of Bridget Ray Maloney was John Molony. I have too much going on for the next two weeks to respond to you but I sent an email to our cousins, Ed Shinners and Ray Johnson. Hopefully they can get back to you sooner than I.

Nice to find another Maloney cousin. What state do you live in? Can you contact me at janmelb@yahoo.com? Thanks

I think we are looking for the same person. I am working on a Nora Maloney McDonald. She married a James McDonald. The family is sometimes called McDonnell in census records. Their children were Nellie (Ellen), James, Maggie (Margaret), Irene and John.
James and Nora are in 1910 census, she is listed on his draft card 1918 but he is widower living with daughter in 1920.
Found death certificate for Nora Maloney McDonald, daughter of James and Bridget Ray Maloney.
Could your John be a James or vice versa??

Sorry but I don't recognize the names. I have seen our ancestor's name spelled Molony and Maloney. Have seen others spelled Moloney and Malony. Then there is Malone, Molone, Mahoney, etc. Try lots of combinations and you might find them in the census.

I am trying to find more info on a Nora Melone McDonnell according to her daughter's birth certificate anyway, lol. born in Aug 1877 Ill, married to James McDonnell or McDaniel or McDonald depending on source. chidren: nellie, James, Maggie, Irene, and John. I couldnt find anything on a Irish Melone both parents listed as Irish. So tried Maloney and found Nora McDonald daughter of James and Bridget Ray Maloney death certifate.
Nora and James McDonnell/McDaniel/McDonald daughter was born 1895 birth certificate says Ellen, Census says Nellie, marriage cert says Helen McDonell, listed as Ella McDonnell or Ellen on children birth certificates, husband obit lists her as Helen McDonald. Ellen married a Kelly.
Any of this sound familiar?

The Limerick mailing list and archives are available throught the top of any page at rootsweb. It is next to the message boards choice. You need to choose the mailing lists, then country, then county. You need to subscribe and post the question there. You can also search the archives for the past 12 years by just using the individual surnames and then all the postings with that name will come up. I have never tried posing a search with multiple names but perhaps using 2 names would work.

Janet
