Margaretha Mandel, born 1843 Breitenbrunn, imm. 1861 to Ohio

I am seeking information on my ggg-grandmother Margaretha Mandel or Mandl, born 1843 in Breitenbrunn, Bavaria, Germany, particularly her parents' names and the history of her family back in Germany. She immigrated to Ohio in 1861 and settled in Delphos, Van Wert County, Ohio. She married Joseph Bäcker later that year and they had several children. Many of their children and descendants go by the surname Baker rather than Bäcker. I am a descendant of their daughter Maria Magdalena Baker, born 1864, who married Johannes Grundtisch and moved to Buffalo, N.Y.

Margaretha had two brothers, Joseph born 1841 and Nicolaus born 1853, who came to America in 1868. They also settled in Delphos and they have descendants in Akron, Cleveland, and elsewhere in Ohio.

The town of origin (Breitenbrunn) comes from Margaretha's immigration record - the ship manifest for the port of Hamburg. The RC Church in Delphos had her town of origin listed as Bittersburg but there is no such place.

I believe the Breitenbrunn that Margaretha came from was the one near Mindelheim, as this is a predominately Catholic village. I understand the LDS has microfilmed records from this village and I plan on getting them soon to be sure this is the right place. There are some 7 Breitenbrunn's in Bavaria in all, so it may not be.

Fred and Louisa Mandel

The death certificate of my great grandfather, Edward Mandel, lists Fred and Louisa as his parents. I cannot locate any additional information about them other than that they were both from Germany. Edward was born in 1871 in Rochester, IN so they obviously immigrated before that time. Edward ended up in Menard County IL and married Effie Naylor. Any information would be appreciated.

MANDEL - 2 brothers and sister settle in Van Wert County, Ohio

Looking for information on Margaretha Mandel, born 1844 in Bavaria, Germany, and her brothers, Joseph & Johann Nicolaus. The 3 settled in Washington Twp, Van Wert Co, Ohio between 1853 and 1861. Margaretha is my ancestor. She married Joseph Bäcker on Sept. 5, 1861 at the Catholic Church in Delphos, Ohio. Joseph & Margaretha had 13 children. Their daughter Maria Magdalena is my ancestor. She was born in Feb. 1864, married Johannes Grundtisch, and moved to Buffalo, NY.

Margaretha's brother Joseph was born in 1841 in Bavaria. He married Maria E. Lause in Feb. 1871 at the Catholic Church in Delphos. Joseph Mandel & Maria Lause had 8 children.

Finally, Margaretha had a brother Johann Nicolaus born in 1853 in Bavaria. I do not have any further information on him.

I would assume these siblings came with their parents, but maybe not. I've really run into a brick wall. Can't find death records for Margaretha or any of her siblings so I am thinking that they may have moved out of the Washington Twp and Delphos area. Would not be surprised to find them in Indiana since they were right on the border with it. Or maybe elsewhere in Ohio. Then again, I really have no idea.

Hoping somebody can help me locate their parents, place of birth (more than just "Bavaria"), death records, or anything more about them.

Anne (Annie) Stark (18 Feb 1901-3 Feb 1953) married Sigmond Mandel (1896-1984). No known children.

Jane Mandel, 100, Sarasota, died July 6, 2002.
She was born April 25, 1902, in North Leeds, England, and came to Sarasota 25 years ago from East Brunswick, N.J. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include a daughter, Lorraine Klein of Scottsdale, Ariz.; sons Martin of San Francisco, Robert of Washington, N.J., and Donald of Sarasota; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services and burial will be in New Jersey. Toale Brothers Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, is in charge.

I'm working on a book and I've been trying to track down what happened to an Irving (J?) Mandel or a Selma Mandel. This is what I know about him:

Reared in Germantown section of Philadelphia.
Lived for a time in Mt. Airy, Pennsylvania
Lived for a time in Levittown, Pennsylvania
Was born around 1921 or 1922
Wife's name was Selma.
He had a daughter who would have been born around 1948.
