Hello, sorry I haven't been in touch but I just found some photos of some of the Singletons I thought you might like. One is of I think, William 'Billy' Singleton, George Harbin's brother. The other is of the George Jr, Anna Mary and Zemma. Anyway, I didn't know if you had them but wanted to send them in case you don't. They are sort of dark but I could make a copy and send to you if you like. Just let me know.

Yes, I'm 99% sure that Zemma Pellicer is our Zemma, but it looks like she wasn't always in Spain. She must have been in New England. They both were. My aunt told me stories about her moving to NY, marrying a man from Spain and going to live there, but she knew nothing about a name or where they may have been in Spain.

Betsy

I knew some of the general dates of your information, and I knew where she worked and wondered if she had a hand in their meeting.

Could Zemma's married name have been Pellicer?

Anna Mary's father was George Harbin Singleton. His parents were Patrick Henry Singleton (1843-1924) d. Bluffton, Clay Co, GA, and Mary Anna Hammack (1847-1905) d. Bluffton, both bur. Bluffton Cem. George H was one of 12 children. Patrick Henry's parents were William Northcutt Singleton (1795) b. NC/d. Damascus, Early Co, GA, md. Mary Patrick (1808-1890) b. NC/d. Early Co, GA/bur. Bluffton Cem. William Northcutt's parents were James Singleton (1767-after 1840) md. Margaret Northcutt (1768-after 1809) md. on 5/23/1793. James' parents were William Singleton (1740-after 1820) of SC, md. Permelia Parsons about 1767.

I have lots of info on descendants if you are interested. Do you have any of this information? Do you live in the Birmingham Area? I work at UA and live in Tuscaloosa, I would be glad to meet up and share the more detail information. We've had people abusing our info in the past so I don't like to put too many details online.

Thanks for all the info you've given me.
Betsy

Mary Allen's parents were Hiram K. Allen and Fetna Jane Hindman who came from Adair Co., KY, to Mobile,Mobile Co., AL, between 1884-1893. Her widowed father Hiram and her brother Charlie. appear living with George Harbin and Mary Allen Singleton on the 1910 census. I haven't found Hiram on the 1920 (although I believe he didn't die until 1926), but Charlie was living with Mary Singleton (now widowed) and the 3 children. She is listed as working as a clerk for the Street Railway in 1920. In 1930 she worked as a bill clerk at the power plant and continued there until retirement. She introduced Norman W. Mandy (who also worked for the power plant) to her daughter Anna Mary.

George Harbin Singleton, Jr. (called Harbin) married Mary Johnson Carter on 19 Feb 1941 but divorced in 1954. I can't find the name of his second wife in my records. He was born 5 Dec 1906 and died 23 Oct 1989 in Birmingham. His 2nd wife had already passed. He had no children. We helped clear out his house.

Anna Mary Singleton's husband Norman Mandy died 8 Oct 1962; she remarried c1970 to Fletcher Parrish who also predeceased her in Feb 1987. Her daughter was executor for not only Anna Mary's care and estate, but also for Harbin and Zemma's. Anna Mary was born 20 Jan 1909 and died in Mary 1993.

Zemma Elizabeth Singleton (b. 13 June 1911) is somewhat of a mystery. She went to college and then allegedly to NY where she met a Spanish artist and then spent many years living in Spain. I met her on a few occasions when she was widowed and returned to live in Birmingham in the 1990's. She eventually was living in a care center in Huntsville and died shortly after Anna Mary.

I think they are all buried in Elmwood Cemetery.

I don't have any recollection of Harbin living in Colorado. Where was George Harbin Sr. on the 1900 census? On the 1910 census it looks like he was a bill collector for a piano company which is interesting as they were a very musical family. I will go through my old hard copies (pre computer days) to see if I can find the missing details. I see that you responded to my Singleton message on GenForum. Do you want me to email you the info I have to your email address you have on file at GenForum ?

This is great, I have looked for details of this branch for awhile. I knew his name was Norman Wilfred Mandy and they had the one son NW Jr, but not about the other daughter or if they married and had children. I also had the info on Edward Charles Mandy and Agnes Stoves, and I have a little info on her parents.

Do you have any info on Anna Mary's brother and sister? Her parents were George Harbin Singleton Sr and her mother was Mary W Allen, dau of Hiram K Allen, born in KY. I know her brother George Harbin Singleton Jr and Zemma Elizabeth Singleton both attended/graduated Birmingham Southern College. I know GH Jr married at least once and divorced, and died in Colorado. Do you know anything about her sister?
George Harbin Singleton Sr, arrived in Birmingham about 1903 and died in 1912, he worked as a collector. I have all sorts of info on him and the rest of our Singleton family, going back to 1740. What info would you like?

Anna Mary Singleton (20 Jan 1909 March 1993) married Norman Wilfred Mandy, Sr. (14 Sep 1899 - 8 Oct 1962) on 7 July 1951, in Birmingham, Jefferson Co., AL. They lived their lives in Birmingham. They had 2 children: Norman Wilfred Mandy (1929-1972) and one daughter who is still living. The son was called "N.W.". He married and has 3 children who are all still living. The daughter married and also had 3 children who are all still living. Norman Mandy, Sr. was born to Edward Charles Mandy and Agnes T.
Anna Mary Singleton was my dad's first cousin. Their father's were brothers. I am researching the whole Singleton family. I live in Alabama now and I am trying to catch up on my research. I have quite a bit of Singleton family info but it sort of stops with Anna Mary's marriage to Norman W Mandy. I try to research a little of each family that I find interesting. Do you need some research done? I can swap info on Anna Mary's family and help with anything local you need, just let me know. I look forward to hearing from you. Betsy Singleton

My husband's Mandy family came to the U.S. in 1882. They appeared on the 1881 British Census in Monks Coppenhall, Cheshire, England. John Mandy, b. c1847, and his wife Jane Pedley, b. c1850 immigrated with their son, Edward Charles, b. 1871, to Birmingham, Alabama. Three other children were born in Cheshire, but were not living by 1900. John and Jane were married in 1870 in Congleton. John died before 1900 and Jane in 1914 in Alabama. Anyone connected to us?
