Manfield and Dabinott

I am going back for the Dabinott Manfield line.

I have Rawlin Manfield (1524-1612) wife of Thomas Dabinott (born 1528) with son John Sir Dabinott. John Sir Dabinott married Johanna Collins.

As parents of Rawlin Manfield I saw everyone had William Manfield and Joane Chardstock.

I tried to look for Thomas Dabinott (Rawlin's husband)'s parents and they came up as John Dabinott and...Joane Chardstock.

That would make Rawlin and Thomas Dabinott siblings, not husband and wife.

Any thoughts/info, anyone? Thank you.

1872 Letter written by William John Manfield

Dec 23 1872

My Dear Uncle and Aunt
I now take the pleasure of writing to you these few lines hoping to find you all quite well as it leaves us middling at present thank God for it. Father hopes you will receive this and answer this as he wrote several times before to you but received no answer. We got a letter from grandmother with your letter in it and they are both getting old and not able to do anything and they are very poorly indeed. I suppose you know that John has gone to America with his wife and family. Father has not heard from him since he went out.
Dear uncle and aunt,
I now wish to tell you something about our family. You haven’t got quite as many children as father has yet. There is 9 of us all together. 5 boys and 4 girls. Their names and ages are as follows: Mary Ann 16, Harriet Elizabeth 13, my own name William John 14, Sydney George 10, Richard 9, Charles 6, Ellen Louisa 5, Arthur Thomas 2, and the baby Amelia Jane 6 months. As I have told you about the children I must tell you about father’s service. It will be completed in another years time and father thinks about settling down near Athlone as he bought a little place here as father thinks his family is too large to bring to England. He is to get a medal with a gratuity of ?5 for good conduct and long service on his discharge. His pension will be from 10’ to 10’.6 if all goes well father hopes that when you come to England you will come to Ireland to see us. He has also bought a cow, ass and cart with the place. He has 5 acres of land. Father had to borrow a few pounds to purchase the land as he had not quite enough of his own. My dear Uncle and Aunt, we all hope you are all well and doing well. Everything here are dear and well and we have had nothing but wet weather the last four months. We hope you have finer weather there. And we hope it is a better place than this. And what sort of place is America? I should like very much to go out myself to see it. . Do you know where Uncle George is? For we have not heard from him for the last 2 years.

We all wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year though I expect Christmas will be over before you get this. Father thought you were dead as you did not write (illegible) know what has come over George and hoping you will both write soon.
To no more at present,
Your affectionate nephew,
William Manfield
Address
Wm Manfield
Coast brigade
R A Athlone Ireland

Letter written to Daniel and Ellen (O'Connell) Mansfield, Pascagoula, Mississippi. Daniel was born and raised in Somerset, England.
This family was only in Athlone a short time while the father (William Manfield, Daniel's brother) was in the military.
I didn't say that R. I was suggesting that posting a request looking for others researching the same lines is a waste of your time. But by posting a specific request for something that you need to further your own research is accomplishing the same thing. We post because we want our requests to be recognized & acted on, so why post a vague request and get no results or post a specific request and get beneficial responses for something we need, possibly also finding someone else who are also researching these lines. Is there a library in your area that subscribes to HeritageQuestonline and allows at home access? HQ doesn't have all the census indexes but do have all the images. For those they don't, you can always post a request for the census index information and then find the image yourself on HQ. Just make sure you get the NARA film pg number. Ancestry often uses the sheet number as the page number. Especially on the later census enumerations. Dick

Do I understand that postings on the message boards have morphed to mostly making requests for look-ups and those who are looking for the same family will take note of those requests for lookups? I understand that & agree that it is a good way to handle the message board postings.

To tell the truth I mixed up Emma Jane's youngest sister [who is listed as being born in IOWA, in the 1870 census] when I read IOWA on Emma Jane's DC.

No, I cannot afford a subscription to Ancestry to do census look-ups for myself....I will have to post to the census look-up volunteers for those.

Thank you for the information & suggestions.
Very well done~!
Sincerely

Mornin' R, There was nothing wrong with posting on an Iowa board, her d/c did say she was born in Ia. However, you had JANE on the 1870 as born Il. and father born Tn. This should have been mentioned in your request. As for posting looking for others researching our lines, I find a waste of time. It's our tree we're researching so if we have a need to post a request, it should be something we need to further that search. By the nature & content of that specific request for a record, if anyone else is researching these lines, they will find us. and that's a bonus. I trust you have access to census records so here is basic essential index info. All in Kansas City, Jackson county Mo. 1900, Jim T. & Jennie E. Sharp. 1910 James & Jennie Sharp. Same in 1920. 1930 Jim T. & Jennie Sharp. As for Cora Dameron, she was probably a lodger/boarder in the residence but had enough information (right or wrong) on Jennie to be the informant on the death certificate. Wishing you success in all your genealogical pursuits. Dick

I have never found any census records for Emma Jane Kingcade-Sharp after the 1870 MO in her father's household.

4 June 1870 Henry Co., MO., Census, Grand River Twp., HH#234...William Kinkaid, age 40, Grower, born in TN.
His household consisted of Martina, age 14, Keeping house, born in CA.; Jane, age 7; Jacob, age 5, both born in IL.; Mary, age 2, born in Iowa; and Susan USHER, age 32, Housekeeper, born in PA.

You were right to notice that Emma Jane Kincaid/Kingcade/Kinkaid-Sharp was born in IL [this census indicates her birth was about 1863]

I have no documents, [only family history that her mother's name was "Alice" Unknown] except the DC that a relative shared with me. My posting on this message board was to check for other message-board-members who may be related & searching for the rest of their family members.

Going by the census for her siblings the family stayed in MO for the most. Emma Jane's DC stated that she lived in her community for 60 years. That should be where she was listed in the census.

I guess my next step should be to check with the census lookups for the census & MO records for her marriage to Sharp?

I would be gratful for any census that you found James T. Sharp & Emma Jane in. Did you look for Emma Jane Manfield?

Are there places online to check for children of that
Sharp-marriage?

Until then, I have the mystery of Emma J. Manfield that is the maiden name for Emma Jane's mother on Emma Jane's DC.
Thank you for your help,sincerely.

R, Where do you have your James & Emma Sharp on census records? Using the physical address for Emma and James on the d/c's, I traced a James and JENNIE Sharp from 1930 back to 1900. Not once was she enumerated as born Ia. I'm sure most of us are aware that the information on a d/c is only as good as the knowledge of the informant. Perhaps if you can provide a bit more data on your Emma Sharp, we will have something to work with. As it is now, we as volunteers are flying blind. Dick

Hemyock is a fairly large village in the Blackdown Hills. My Manfield married and moved to Wellington in Somerset for the woollen trade. If you find out more I would love to know.

My MANFIELD line starts with John MANFIELD born c 1809 in Devonshire. He married Harriet Kirby Lassam in Bramley Surrey in 1833. Sometime between he must have moved from Devon to Surrey. Does anyone have any information, particularly which part of Devon he may have come from. Other possible surname spellings are MANSFIELD, MANVILLE, MANVELL
Thanks, Graham
