Hi, Some info on Manley's circus for you. I am writing a biography of Music Hall impressario Fred Karno. He started as a circus acrobat and did a year with Manley's based at Burton on Trent in I believe 1883. He creditted Manley (he seemed to think it was Harry Manley? Is that right?) with teaching him the skills of visual comedy and slapstick which he went on to make his own. Hope this is useful. I note you said you had some photos of the circus - if they from this sort of era I'd be very interested to see them. best wishes, Dave Crump

Munnelly / Monnelly / Munley / Manley Reunion
There will be a reunion in County Mayo for those with the connections to the ancestral surnames above from June 22 - June 24. Details at

http://www.munnellysofcountymayo.com/2012-reunion.html

Posted on the Munnelly Connection at facebook:

"Paul Manley
I will be bringing some historical items to the reunion to share. Among them is a 3 foot by 4 foot color map of the west coast of Ireland. It is was done in 1584 by a man named John Browne. It was was colored in Italy. The reproduction is in a 2003 article in the Proceedings of the Royal Irish Academy. I called the Society in Dublin from California and they were generous enough to send me a free copy. Also, I have the 2009 copy of the Ordinance Survey Letters for County Mayo from 1838. It is 350 pages long. It has a reproduction of several early maps of County Mayo. It is very strong on the origins of names of places and local history as told to John O'Donovan by the old timers in 1838. This is where we learn of the connection between the Munnellys, Ballymunnelly and the O'Doherty clan."

Please let Kathy Manley Short ( katsjay2@bellsouth.net ) know ASAP if you are interested in attending.

Marianne Manley Granoff
Albuquerque, NM
granoff@zianet.com
See my site www.munnellysofcountymayo.com and the Facebook group 'Munneelly Connection' .

I have an ancestor, James Manley, who was born around 1825 in Pennsylvania and lived in Philadelphia (Manayunck area). Manayunck is known to have been popular with the Irish, so I am wondering if he may be related? His wife was named Anna Mary and I know of 2 children, Sarah A. and Oscar R. (My ancestor is Sarah). I see that there is a James and Anna M. Manley that lived in Scranton- do you know anything about this couple?

I am trying to find out what happened to Lavina Manley who was living in Persifer Township in 1900.
She was born March 1833 in Ohio. Her mother was from Mass and her father was from New York.

She is widowed and has her granddaughter Grace Darling Epperson living with her.

Lavina had 4 children....3 survived.
Guy
Jay
May....married an Epperson and had a daughter Grace Darling...they divorced and she remarried a Buffington and died in Pueblo Colorado.
an unknown child.

I would like to know when/where Lavina died, and also what was her husbands name. There are many Manley family members buried in Knox County, although I do not find her.
I would think one of them is Lavina's husband and the child that had died. (Also, what was her maiden name)

I am really trying to find out what happened to the grand daughter Grace Darling Epperson...she married John Leu and then Willis L. Burris. I can not find anymore info than this.
John Leu and Grace had a daughter that died in 1902 after only 17 days of life. I do not know where this daughter is buried either.

Anyone that has information about Lavina and her family??

Thank you so much,
Anna
There are several Manleys, including Hugh and Ann, buried at Calvary Cemetery in Anoka. I will look around for names when we are there next.

Here is a link with Hugh and Ann's children listed: http://records.ancestry.com/Hugh_Manley_records.ashx?pid=121.... Not sure how detailed you want me to get with Hugh/Ann line, I have a document with names, but without birthdates and death dates, that was last updated in 2001.

I will see what I have on Hugh's siblings. My great Aunt Margaret did a lot of research, but the most thorough work was done on her mother's side, the Gallaghers.

I am looking for Frances "Fannie" Manley born abt 1810. She married Elvey Lewis, Sr. and they lived in Hertford County. I'm wondering if Fannie was related to Noah Manley. Maybe his daughter?

Thanks

Patrick McNamara of Scranton PA died July 9, 1924

SCRANTON [PA]TIMES, JULY 9, 1924
P. F. McNAMARA, FIRST FURNITURE DEALER HERE, IS DEAD AT HOME OF SON
AGED WEST SIDE RESIDENT STRICKEN WITH FATAL ILLNESS WEEK FOLLOWING DEATH OF WIFE
Stricken with an illness a week following the death of his wife, Patrick F. McNamara, aged seventy-nine years, of 815 Eynon Street, died this morning at 9:40 o’clock at the home of his son, John McNamara, of 814 West Elm Street. Mrs. McNamara died on June 20 and was laid at rest in Cathedral Cemetery.
Mr. McNamara resided in West Scranton since 1863 and was one of the well known and most prominent citizens. He was born in Ireland and when a young boy came to this country with his parents [Francis and Mary Manley McNamara] who made their home in Canada [Lochaber, Quebec]. At the age of twenty-one years, he came to this city and, having become proficient in the art of cabinet making, opened what was probably the earliest furniture store of the city at 815 Eynon Street. During his active life, much of the furniture was the product of the hands and not of machinery and in many homes in this city and valley the work of his hands is among highly prized furniture. He was engaged by many of the officials of Catholic churches of this region to fashion fixtures for use in the sacred edifices.
He was one of the first communicants of St. Patrick’s church and with the organization of St. Ann’s parish, Lincoln Heights, together with his late wife, he became one of the organizers of that parish. He was faithful and devout in attending his religious duties and he was admired for his many sterling characteristics.
Mr. McNamara is survived by two sons, John McNamara, of the Glen Alden Coal company, and Thomas J., travelling freight and passenger agent for the D. & H. Railroad. The funeral will probably be held on Saturday morning with a solemn high mass of requiem in St. Ann’s church. The body will be laid at rest beside that of his wife in the family plot in Cathedral cemetery.

Mary Manley

Looking for information re: Mary Manley, b. April 12, 1855 in Nashville, Davidson Co., TN. Married first to (Squire) Henderson Collins. Some gedcoms show "Collins" as her maiden name, and show parents as Elisha C. Collins, b. 1830 TN and Esther Archer b. 1825 in Wilson Co., TN. However, I wonder if this is in error and that Manley was really her maiden name? Looking for her parents and siblings if that is true, and for confirmation if Collins really was her maiden name, with Manley possibly being her middle name. This is confusing, but Mary Manley Collins eventually married to my great-grandfather John Eades/Eads in 1888, in Wayne Co., MO. Have done lots of research of my Eades/Eads ancestry and now trying to document more of the Manley and Collins lines. Mary died in 1938 in Greybull, Natrona Co., WY where she went to live in her later years with (or near) one of her children. I know most about her Eads descendants, but also some on her Collins children. I do also have a picture of her tombstone and would be happy to share what I have. Would love to meet up with someone researching the Manley/Collins/Eads folks.

You can find a likely Thomas Manley immigrating in 1908 at www.ellisisland.org He was going to a friend, Mr. Martin.

In the 1910 census, there is a Thomas Manly, age 46, living in Manhattan as a boarder. His occupation was a Chauffer for the New York Taxi Co. I couldn't find him after that.

There are New York death records here, but there are several Thomas Manley's.
http://www.italiangen.org/NYCDeath.stm

Family Tree DNA now accepting results from other labs for surname projects
from www.familytreeDNA.com

************************************************

We are pleased to announce the launch of a new feature we hope will benefit your projects: Y-DNA "Third Party" uploads.

This will allow for the upload of 33 and 46-marker Y-DNA test results from Ancestry, GeneTree and Sorensen's SMGF. This was a natural development since the necessary tools were created to import the DNA Heritage database after they ceased operations. While the DNA Heritage transfer is free of charge as a result of that acquisition, we will be charging a nominal fee of $19 per person to import third party results into Family Tree DNA. This $19 fee will be credited to customers who order upgrades or add-ons.

For an additional $39, customers who transfer their third party results will also have additional markers tested so that they can receive matches to Family Tree DNA's 25 or 37-marker level, ancestral origins, and other features of the personal page.

Please forward the following link to those who may be interested in ordering the Third Party transfer:

http://www.familytreedna.com/landing/ydna-transfer.aspx

What do you get when you transfer third party results?

The $19 fee will provide the customer with a Family Tree DNA personal page which will allow them to join Family Tree DNA projects freely. This means results will be available to the administrator and included on the project's public page for comparison with other project members.

The $58 fee ($19 transfer fee + $39 for the added markers to Family Tree DNA's 25 or 37-marker level) will include the same features provided to Family Tree DNA customers in their personal pages.

For any additional questions related to Third Party transfer, please refer to our FAQ section for help.

*****************************************************

Let me know if anyone has any questions.

Marianne Manley Granoff
Volunteer Project Administrator
Munley / Manley Surname Project
granoff@zianet.com
Looking for Manley connection through my grandmother

My grandmother's name is Arline Harkins. She was the only child of Mary Elizabeth Manley (b. 1906) and William Hartley (b. 1903). She was born in Whitinsville, MA. Both of her parents were born in Fall River, MA.

Mary Elizabeth had 7 siblings:
Hattie Mae (married a Barnes)
Mable
Lyman
Irene
Ethel
Robert Lawson
John C

Mary Elizabeth's parents were Robert L Manley (b. 1866 in Warren, RI) and Mary Wood (b. 1871). Robert's parents were Lyman Albert (b. 1842 in Smithfield, RI) and Annie Moore (b. 1835, possibly in Ireland).

I'm not very sure of any other information. Mostly, I've focused on my grandfather's line since it's easier to find his Harkins surname than to jump around with Manley and Hartley and all the rest.

If it helps, Grandma remembers two cousins that she used to play with, both boys. I think she told me she called one of them Billy. I'm pretty sure they were on the Manley side. I think they might have been Hattie Mae's boys, but I'm not positive. I do know that she lived in what I believe was a shared house of some sort, maybe a duplex or something similar. I think "Billy" was in the military, but I'm not positive.

Any information would be helpful. I've not been able to fine much more on the family, and I've yet to find anyone that might be related to us.
