Mr.& Mrs. Wayne Mannen of Mt Vernon have been notified of the death of Mr. Mannen's brother, Elmer Mannen of Tampa, Fla., on August 17. The late Mr. Mannen was a native of Mt Vernon. He ws 73.

son of Alexander S. Mochrie and
MARY I. MANNEN.
Mary Mochrie ,(my Mom) is the daughter of David E. Mannen
born near Acton Ontario. She was an only child.
David Earnest Mannen died 1952 as result of a auto accident.
Mary Mochrie had conversations with Ruby CURRY,daughter of Gilbert Mannen, on many occasions. As you know, Gilbert was the brother of David Mannen.
My wife Marie and I live in Mississauga Ontario, we have two adult daughters, Lesley and Lindsey.
Perhaps we could exchange notes in the future.

Sorry I did not pick up on it sooner - A change in computer
and internet server, along with a greatly reduced time on line, lead to this oversight.
My Mom, Mary I. (Mannen) Mochrie had many conversations by telephone with the daughter of Gilbert F. Mannen (Sr.)-namely Ruby Currie. She also visited the home of Gilbert Mannen on at least two occasions.

I am the daughter of William Mannen, Weir Ontario. His father was Daniel James Mannen and David Mannen was his brother. My Dad did not ever go far from the family farm which the Mannen family got by being United Empire Loyalists in the mid seventeen hundreds. I grew up on that farm.
Dad passed away at age 85 several years ago. He had great memory of the family and contributed to two of my brothers books. One was by Douglas Mannen and the history of Lynden and the other was by Douglas and my brother Rick on Harrisburg where our Uncle Gilbert lived.
The farthest away from home my Dad ever travelled was to Acton to work with your Grandfather at Acton cutting trees in the 1930's before he married my mother. He always told us of his experiences at Acton and kept in touch with his first cousin Mrs. Mochrie for many years. He looked upon knowing your family as one of the best times of his youth.
You come from a good family of pioneer Canadian settlers who first came to the United States like many others from Ireland. Be very proud of who you are.

I understand that Littleberry and Rhoda had a son Asa= this Asa probably named after his Uncle Asa Mannen.

Several descendants of the Warren CO KY Mannen clan removed to IL and then to KS.

I have a puzzle with too many 'loose' pieces.

Seems my James Anderson of Mont CO MO was marr to Rhoda Manning. This per the death certificate of their son Joseph Anderson (=his parents are listed). In the 1850 census my James Anderson and his wife Rhoda are found living in Montgomery CO MO with their son Joseph. SO wanting to follow up on the Manning lead...
I checked for any Mannings in this county. It seems that Asa Mannen/Manning is living not too far away from several of my collateral families.

& also noting that...
In the 1840 Mont CO MO census my Rhoda would fit into the Hh of Asa, but (deep sigh) I am not sure when James and Rhoda marr. There is a chance that he had a previous wife named Sally. BUT, Also noting that Asa Mannen was living next door to Arasmus D. Pew = the brother-in-law of my James Anderson.

A little background on James Anderson.
My James Anderson was the son of Presley (Jr) and Euphemia Anderson. This Presley Anderson (Jr.) was the son of Presley Anderson (Sr.) who died in Bath CO KY 1816.
Presley Anderson (Jr.) had a son Presley Anderson ( the 3rd) who died in 1848 and he is the Presley that marr Mary Stuart Gray.

& (oh Yeah) there may be (yet) another 'Gray' connection back in KY, but not sure. Seems my Isaac Gray had a son George. Too many directions to go. I have wondered if a couple of Isaac's sons removed to the same area of MO about the same time that my Presley Anderson Jr did (in 1817>18).

Back to Rhoda...
I was wondering if you knew of a Rhoda Manning who was born abt 1818 in KY?

She was married twice. First husband was Joseph Cortell and the second husband was Thomas T. Manning (Sr.). She had three chiildren with Thomas Manning Sr. Names are Franklin, Lucius, and Thomas Jr.

She was born Abt 1834/ 1836.
She died Abt 1873.

On 04 Jun 1810 Rhody Mannen married Littleberry Savage in Warren County Kentucky.

I had collected this tidbit off of the GRS/Automated Archives CD #2 while looking for my own Savage Family. Littleberry was not one of mine, but I'm hoping someone can find this of use.

Am having some trouble myself with Wm/Sealey Underwood's Father. But I recently met someone who is helping me solve the Underwood problems as best we can @ the Library of VA in Richmond. I do not have the Underwoods in a program as yet. My Mother was Virginia Kathleen Underwood Galt. She was born in Richlands, VA. My husbands g-g-g-g-grandparents were William Underwood and Celia Mannen. His g-g-g-grandparents were Joshua Underwood and Mary Underwood. William and Celia Underwood is as far as i can go on the Underwood family. Would love to know more info. I started genealogy research about 2 years ago, and love ever minute of it. So any information no matter how small is greatly appriciated.

You are a generous soul! I actually have quite a healthy amount of information about the Underwood family, but am looking for Sealey/Celia Mannen's lineage. I would appreciate VERY much anything at all that you have on her. I believe her father was Davis Mannen, but have absolutely zero proof.

Wondering if my Mannen relatives are connected to yours. My line is as follows:
John Mannen (b:Jan 14, 1806) married Elizabeth Persong(?) (b: July 18, 1807) had a child named David Mannen (b: July 12, 1834-Dec 9, 1918) who married Sarah Jane South (b: Feb 21, 1850 - 1902). They had a child named Averill Ernest Samuel Mannen (Aug 1, 1878 - July 1963) who married Ethel May Scott (Feb 1, 1888 - July 1963). They had a child named David Calvin Mannen who married Alice Alveena Williams who are my grandparents.

died at age 60 in 1982.

He had relatives in the Brantford, Ontario area. A brother, Gilbert Mannen is mentioned

Thanks John, You could very well be right. I think that if your name is Mannen and connected to Waltonville we all must be related some how. I wish now I had paid more attention to my Dad (Hugh Mannen) then I did, now he's past away I'm afraid a lot of information about the Mannen's went with him. I do think that there are others who know the Mannen's pretty well. Maybe living in Waltonville. My mom is still living but has trouble remembering these days. Anyway for my children I would like to at least right this stuff down for the future. If you find anything else forward it on to me, and I will do the same.
