BUTLER EAGLE; Aug. 24, 1917
MRS. TERESA MANNY
Mrs. Teresa Manny 92 years of age, widow of the late John Joseph Manny St. died at __ o'clock, thursday morning, August 23, at the residence of her son, John J. Manny, Jr., at Eberhart station on the Harmony Line. Mrs. Manny was one of the oldest residents of the southwestern section of Butler township and was highly respected by a wide circle of friends. The deceased was born in Luzerne county, Pa., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Schlagel. Her parents came to Butler county over 80 years ago and settled in what is now the Meridian district. Mrs. Manny was the oldest member of Grace Lutheran church of Butler. She is survived by three sons, John J. Jr., whith whom she made her home; Eli G., of Butler, and William W. of Butler township; a brother, Samuel Schlagel, of Butler township, and two sisters, Mrs. Katherine Dufford, of Connoquenessing, and Mrs. Maria Ray, of Beaver Falls, Pa.
The funeral will be held at the residence of her son, John J. Manny, Eberhart station, Sunday, August 26, at 2 p.m., conducted by Rev. E. Victor Roland of Butler. Interment will be made in White Church cemetery, Butler township.

NOTE: Teresa was d/o Henry & Catherine Schutt Schlagel and was b. Nov. 20, 1825 in Luzerne Co. PA and d. Aug. 23, 1917 at Eberhart Station, Butler Co. PA.

(John) Joseph Manny d. 1901 Butler Co. PA

BUTLER CITIZEN; Feb. 21, 1901
(John)Joseph Manny
Going to the election Tuesday, caused Joseph Manny of Butler township, his life. In stepping down from the New Castle road to the election house, he slipped and fell heavily, fracturing two of his ribs. He was hauled to Butler and a physician was consulted and then hauled back as far as John Leighner's from where he walked home; but as soon as he laid down he cried out for those about him to raise him, as he was smothering, and was in intense pain. He began spitting blood and died probably from hemorrahage that night.

NOTE: (John)Joseph Manny was born in France June 16, 1827 to [I believe] Nicolas (b.1807) and Mary Manny who with Nicolas' brother John J.(b.1810) and both families had come to the USA 1832/33. They were Roman Catholic and settled in the Butler Co. PA area. I have no proof that Joseph is Nicolas' son, except that John J., brother of Nicolas, also had a son, John J. It isn't likely he had 2 living sons of the same name. It is likely that Nicolas would name a son after his brother or perhaps his father.
The Joseph Manny of this obituary m. Teresa Schlagel d/o Henry & Catherine Schott Schlagel.
Joseph and Teresa had children: John Joseph, Jr.; Eli; and William W. There was a child living in their home in the 1880 census, but I can find no direct relation to either of them.
Joseph told stories to his grandchildren of the trip over from France. He had a little sister that died on that trip and she was buried at sea. He always cried a little at the thought of that little sister's death and burial, and he remembered her well.
(John)Joseph Manny and his wife are both buried at "White Church" [St. John's Reformed Church] in Butler Co. PA

Hello, I am from the McConnell Area Historical Society and we are very interested in the Manny family. In fact we are having a cemetery walk on July 23 at the Manny Cemetery. We will have many portrayers, a horse drawn hearse, a reaper and people from the Tinker Cottage in Rockford who will talk about the Manny family. We will also have a Lincoln portrayer talk abt the Manny case. If you are interested email me and I can give you intructions how to get there if you dont live to far. Other wise our little museum has a genealogy shelf and we would love to get a copy of your family tree if you would like to share it. Feel free to send copy and I can put into a binder for you. Make sure you list your name , address, and any other contact such as email, and phone so that people can get in contact with you.
Thanks
Robin
Secretary/Genealogy chairman of the McConnell Area Historical Society

I have been searching for parents of Daniel Manney, born in Boston, June 7, 1825. He married Liza McCrudden in 1859 in New York City. Later they moved to Minnesota.
Is there an online site to read ship manifests (like the Ellis Island Records) for landings in Boston? Does Boston have birth records for that year available to see? In his obituary there is no mention of parents or a change in the spelling of Manney.
Any help would be appreciated.
