Hello,

I am researching the Mansell fasmily tree. I saw you posting and I have a Henry James Mansell b about 1880 in London England , his father was my great grandfather Thomas Mansell b Shrewsbury England 1860.

Information on Henry is scant. It appears he was a seafarer who may have settled in Canada about 1900?. After this date my information ends.

Henry had 3 sisters and 1 brother. His youngest sister Ada settled in Canada, the others remained in the NW of England.

Not sure if this is the Henry you are researching but the link to Canada and the NE of the USA may be more than coincidence.

Regards

Stuart Mansell
Hi Elizabeth. My gggrandfather was Sylvester Mansell b. approx 1854 in Tn. He had 2 sons, my ggrandfather, Edmon aka Edward Sylvester b. approx 1875 in Illinois & Taylor Franklin aka Franklin Taylor b. approx 1877 in Arkansas. On the 1880 census they were listed as Mansull. His wife was Elizabeth. From the information given on the census I believe she was a second wife. This is the only record I have ever found on Sylvester, therefore I am looking at a brick wall. I believe he used another name, but I don't have any idea what it was. The 2 brothers came to Oklahoma in the early 1900's. If you have any information on Sylvester I would appreciate it.
Marisa Mansell
cherokeerain1964@yahoo.com

I did find a John Edwin Usher also.

No, I am not in Toronto but grew-up in Michigan. My family are from Chicago, Illinois and my Grandpa Mansell is the one from Toronto originally. When my husband retires we are going to go back to my home state to be closer to family.
Wow! what part of Ohio do you travel through the upper part like Toledo? We are in Toledo about once a month to see Jim's stepmom and stepsister. A friend of mine wants to make a book out of all of her genealogy work. I am trying to organize my information. It is a major task. I enjoy doing it though. Also, you need to go back through everything periodically because you realize that it leads you to another avenue to research.

Thank you and take care-

Jane

Yes, Elizabeth Noblett is/was my 1st cousin 3x removed. I have a lot of Noblett research. There is also an Usher researcher I have communicated with in the past. He gave me quite a bit of material.

Here is a link to a "conversation" I had with a lady re a painting by John Edwin Usher. I may take you into the middle of the conversation but ...... It's very interesting. I found a painting by the same name, by a different artist, in a museum in Iowa. I haven't been able to get by there to ck it out.

http://www.mythings.com/Valuations.aspx?itemid=582615

The second link (below)is to a book published in Toronto c. 1900 that also talks about the painting & has a brief bio.

Enjoy!!

Jean

p.s.Are you in Toronto?
Also, there was a John Usher born in 1860 in Etobicoke, York, Ontario but with out the census to look at, it is hard to tell if this is your Usher. Good luck and it is difficult to know if you have the right person without seeing the actual document.

Hi Jean- Is your Mansell contact Wendy? I was fortunate enough to meet her last summer when she came to our reunion near Chicago, IL. Yes, it is always good to keep in touch and share what we have discovered. The FamilySearch site is helpful if you have not tried them. If you have good names to work with you can find out a lot through that site too.

Thank you for getting back with me.

Sincerely,

Jane

Hi, Jane, thanks for contacting me. It's great to hear from a person directly/closely related to one of the family lines I am researching!

I have the marriage info & with the help of another Mansell researcher, we have filled in a lot of the family history in Toronto. My connection is on the Usher side. Elizabeth Noblett Usher was Amy's mother.

Keep in touch. Maybe we can share some info & pictures (mostly from other researcher who I can probably put u in touch with.)

Jean

I have not researched my Mansells that far back. I have Francis H. Mansell b. abt 1780> Shropshire, married Mary Ann Hendricks(son?) in England by 1800. Francis was a pudler of sorts came to USA, NY then mostly Morris
County NJ by 1830 ish, for a consortium of business/money peoples who paid for his voyage and other Englishman that would work a mine in Morris Co. NJ for them. Francis died early, possibly 1839, his wife Mary Ann (AKA MARION) Hendricks (son) Mansell was very industrious in Boonton, NJ and bought land from the Mining Company for houses to be build. She died by (I may be off a little, would have to check my notes) I believe 1860 ish, buried in Boonton, NJ. I have definite dates and tombstone pictures. Right now not easily accessible. Other than the H in my Francis name I do not recall or found a Henry for my Mansells. Never know, though.

I used to take Grandmother Mansel to the family reunion down at either Duncan or Durant It has been a long time ago. She would visit with Harley. My Mom was their youngest child and we lived the closest to Grandma and Grandpa. I was only about 8 when Grandpa Mansel passed away but I do remember him. His father,my Great grandfather, Robert Mansel, fought in the civil war. Seems strange doesn't it.
Your distant cousin,
Ruby Jane (Howell) Ritchey, Bull.

My grandmother's name was Elizabeth Mourning or Morning. We don't know how it it spelled. One cousin said she had heard something about her grandmother or mother was Cherokee. I started doing research with the information I had and found that her grandmother Arey Ann Woods was a full blood Cherokee. I found this on someone elses tree. They have no other information about it. I can find no information that connects our line of McKenzie to Mourning Flowers. I know that Morning Dove White married William Mansell and is a great grandmother to Elvis. I don't remember how many greats William and my gr,gr,grandfather were brothers. This was on my grandfather Zeigler's side.

Mourning Flowers is one of my great...whatever grandmothers, she married Edward Mancill about 1771 I am descended throught their daughter Mary Polly Mancill who married a Holley. This is facsinating about the Cherokee hertitage. How did you find this information out? (oral history, a older relative, family Bibles?) I just came back from a Smoky mountain vacation and while there saw the "Unto these Hills" drama in Cherokee... now, this is my history too. Please let me know any details that you might know, thanks Kathy

I have found on ancestry.com this information: Robert Mansell Married to Elizabeth Pratt, their child Richard Mansell Married to Elizabeth Mobley, their children were many but two are listed as William Mansell born about 1795 and died in Marion ,Ala.Married to Morning Dove. another son John Burrell Mansell born about 1795 and died in McMinn, Tn. This was my great, great grandfather. I always find them both as being born about 1795 . this had had me wondering if they were twins.

Mansell / Fullwood family

Hello Mansell clan. I am looking for the adopted daughter of John Mansell (DOB 1865) from Crewe England and his wife Ann Jane (DOB 1860)Nee Fullwood, from Liverpool England. They married about 1899 and were living in Smallthorne, Stoke on Trent England. In 1901 they adopted a female child from Leek workhouse. They changed the child's name from Martha Ann Shufflebotham to Angelika Mansell. From an entry on the Family Search website I believe they were in Gage Nebraska in 1910. I believe Ann Jane may have died in Stoke on Trent England in 1925, if so they or she must have returned to UK. Any information especially about the child gratefully received.
