Looking for info on my ggggg grandfather Samuel Mansfield b. abt 1740 in Connecticut d. bef July 2, 1787 when his son Joseph, who was born August 28, 1769 in Danbury, Connecticut petitioned the probate court of Danbury, Connecticut for a guardian. I believe my Samuel is part of the Mansfield family from New Haven, Connecticut. Joseph, born 1769, marries Chloe Knapp in 1790. This is were all my info starts.
Would like to find out Samuels parents - his wife and if there are any other brothers and sisters to Joseph. I have the the book Descendants of Richard & Gillian Mansfield by H. Mansfield published in 1885 but my Samuel doesn't seem to match any Samuel in the book.

I'm still looking for this info. I have hit a very large brick wall. Most of the records at Danbury town hall for that period were burned during the war in 1776 by the British. Any help will be appreciated.

I doubt that I can help you re. your search for Samuel Mansfield, but I do have a question. In your post of 23 May 2006 you said you have the book of descendants of Richard and Gillian Mansfield by H. Mansfield, published in 1885. Might H. Mansfield be Horace Mansfield? He is my gg grandfather from New Haven, CT. His ancestry goes back to Glover then Lt. Nathan Mansfield, then Jonathan M., then
___ Moses Mansfield (I can't read the first word) that Richard Mansfield of New Haven. Perhaps those names will help you find Samuel. I can probably supply more info later. Please let me know about H. Mansfield, if it is Horace. Sue at scschlange@verizon.net
