Their marriage was July 20, 1892 in Brown, WI.
Ida Livingston Graves was married to Willis Graves and their daughter, Mertie was the mother of my grandfather, Earl R. Weed and I knew him.
Ida moved to Antigo in 1900, married Charles Thompson. Would you have any pictures of her during the marriage to Mr. Mantz?
Thank you for your replies.
My great grandfather's brother was Amos Mantz. I was looking thru some books I have and found that Amos and Ida Mantz were divorced on 1/2/1899 in Winnebago County, WI. He divorced his previous wife Florinda on 3/16/1891. Couldn't find a marriage date for Amos and Ida. Who was your gg grandfather? I found possibly 3 other marriages for Ida.
Re: Eugene Mantz married to Grace Gillingham

Eugene Mantz, sister Amelia and brothers Horace and Earnest were born in the 1870s in New Jersey. Their father was Eugene Rousseau Goethe Mantz (born c1847, Bethnal Green in London). His father was Edwin Shelley Mantz - detect a bit of a theme going with the names! He was born c1823 in London. His father was William Christopher Mantz (born c1781, Stepney in London). He is my great great great grandfather. His father was John Henry Mantz (born c1750 prob. in London) and finally, his father was John Mantz (born c1720).

All the work on this was done by a descendant of Edwin Shelley Mantz. Neither of us have managed to get back any further than John Mantz so it's still a mystery as to when and why a Mantz decided to come to Britain from (we assume) Germany.

I'm interested in the Mantz surname as it's my mother's maiden name. If you get this message I'd be grateful if you could provide any information on the US connection as I've tried to trace what happened to Eugene and his siblings and haven't been successful.

I'm looking for any information on Medart John Mantz (married to Josephine Geist) born in Baden Germany in 1831 immigated to US prior to 1858. I have been told he had 2 brothers come over from Germany with him, although I have no names. I have also been told that his name (Mantz) was mispelled at the time he arrived in the US, that it may have been Moutz or Meintz. He had several sons, Edward (b 1863 in OH) is the next one in my lineage. Edward married Clara Utz (b. 1864 in OH)and had a son named Mathias in 1887 who married a Dixie Callahan (b. 1890 in KY).

I would love to know who the other 2 brothers were that came over with him. If anyone has any information on any of these Mantz please email me at chymaiera@yahoo.com

No, the name is not familiar to our line. We begin
with a Conrad Mantz born in Switzerland in 1699.
They lived in Penn. from the early 1740's on. The line
is:Conrad, Jacob, Henry, Henry 2, Jonas, Napoleon Bonaparte,
Cora, and then myself. Henry 2 and Jonas moved to Iowa in
around 1850. We do not know what port our original Mantz
line came to the USA. It should be much easier with a line
that came later as the records are more detailed (and reliable).

I am trying to locate the descendants of Jefferson Mantz born about 1872 in Virginia and Lula or Luna (Berry) Mantz born about 1878 in Virginia. They were married on April 24, 1893 in Washington County, Virginia. They were living in the Cleveland, Ohio vicinity in 1930. Lula was the owner/operator of Federal Antiques in Cleveland.

My father, Ernest Mantz, is leaving for Germany next week, June 11, 2008. I am urgently trying to find out any information I can about our family before he leaves. The Henry Mantz profiled in this message was my dad's grandfather's brother. Does anyone know the name of the town in Germany where they came from? Also, I am very new to family tree building. How does one go about viewing records from Germany? Are they in German? Ancestry.com says it's possible to view records from all over the world, but I have not been able to find anything except US records. Any help anyone can provide would be appreciated very much. Time is so short, and I really want to give my dad some information for his trip, so he can visit the towns of our ancestors. Thank you. Mary Mantz (feel free to write to me at marymantz@tx.rr.com.)

One set of books was a diary of a preacher in the Lutheran church in Frederick the Mantz's attented. I haven't even put together in my computer all I found there on the Mantz and Markey lines.

Henry Mantz b. 1847 Germany --> WI --> MI.

Henry Mantz
Perseverance and hard work always win, and these have won for Mr. Mantz his present position and built his pleasant home. He was born in Germany in 1847, and moved to Milwaukee with his parents in 1856. He worked on a farm until twenty years of age, when he “struck out” for himself, coming to Michigan and beginning work in the woods near Manistee. He spent several years working for Ingham and for McCormack on the Manistee river, where he learned thoroughly the lumber business.
For six years he was in partnership with R. Hanson, cutting pine, or “jobbing it,” the firm being known as Mantz & Co. This firm was dissolved and one formed with his brother, wm. Mantz, with whom he was associated for four years. In all his lumbering operations, Mr. Mantz was very successful. It was these operations and the money earned from them that made him a member of the Michelson & Hanson Lumber Co. upon its organization.
Mr. Mantz was one of the pioneers of Lewiston, being one of the first to move his family here. He has been supervisor of Albert township for two terms, and president of the Lewiston board of education for two terms. His business ability enabled him to fill these offices with success. Mr. Mantz is at present general manager of the Lewiston & Southeastern R.R., owned by the Michelson & Hanson Lumber Co., and general manager of the woods department of the same firm.

this is an exerpt from the Lewiston Journal, apr 28, 1898. there is also photographs with this article.

I have just located a marriage certificate for a distant cousin who married Augustus W. SIMONSON, son of Stephan SIMONSON and Elisabeth MANTZ. Augustus married Edna R. LOGAN, daughter of John LOGAN and Mary WALL, 26 May 1907 in Brooklyn, Kings, New York. Witnesses to the marriage were Anna SIMONSON and John G. FITZSIMMONS.
The ceremony was conducted by Rev. F. I. FLATH, a minister at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church. The wedding took place at 485 Glenmore Avenue. I know the names of 7 children born to Augustus and Edna but I have not located any of their descendants. Augustus died sometime after 1930. Edna died in 1973.
