Charles Manzel b. abt 1881 Census - Oakland County, Farmington TWP. Michigan

Hi .... my grandmother's sister Louisa Mast married Charles Manzel in Michigan.

I found Charles in a 1910 census for Oakland County, Farmington TWP. Michigan. He was 29yrs old married to Emma H. 31 yrs. old. There is one child listed:
Clarence at 4 yrs. old.

Then I have found Charles Manzel again in the 1930 census in the same location married to Louisa, my grandmother's sister. The son Clarence is also listed at age 24 now.

Does anyone have any info to share with me on Charles, Louisa, or /and Clarence. Also, does anyone know what happened to Emma? There was a Mrs. Emma Wright from Detroit, MI at my mother's wedding in Ohio. Could they be the same Emma?

Rosemary

Yes we are related. My mother is Sue (Manzel) Rancilio, her sister Nancy (Manzel) Eckardt is my aunt and the deceased Robert Manzel in Florida was their oldest brother and my uncle. The John Manzel that was your grandfather was my great grandfather and I have a few fond memories of him from my youth as he passed when I was just around eight or nine years old. I have located and a copy of his social security application and I have the names of his parents but that is all I have been able to locate. I am trying to determine whether or not he had any siblings. Also it is a story on my mom's side of the family that the family name was originally Malzahn but was changed by either your grandfather or his father. I would love to trace the family farther back and get a more complete picture. Any help you might be able to give would be greatly appreciated. I would also be willing to share the details of this side of the family that you may not have. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Robert--

I appreciate the information that you gave me. I am curious as to the name of John Manzel's sibling that kept the Von Malzahn name. According to great grandpa's social security application he listed his father as John Manzel which is why we are unsure of who changed the name. I have been trying to locate great grandpa on the census records but have been unable to do so as of yet. Maybe with the name of his sibling I would be able to do that.

I grew up knowing Uncle Sonny very well. My mom often took us up to visit him and Aunt Arlene at the house on Range road. I have the information on Ida Tretpon including the passenger list from the ship she and her sister and parents came over from Germany on.

You are missing a child for Marion and Ralph Manzel. They had Betty Loraine who died at five from scarlet fever, Robert Ralph who died 1998, Richard James who was killed in the line of duty in Korea, Nancy Jean who is still alive and Jeanette Loraine (Sue--my mom) who is also still alive.

I would appreciate any help you could give with great grandpa's brother and if you would like to e-mail me off the message board I could also fill you in on additional dates for this side of the family. My e-mail is peggyrancilio@worldnet.att.net. I look forward to hearing from you.

My grandfather John Manzel, your great grandfather was the one that changed the name Von Malzahn to Manzel. He had a brother that kept that name. I met him once and he looked and acted just like grandpa Manzel.
Grandpa Manzel married a Ida Trepton. They had two sons, John and Ralph. Grandma Ida died of cancer, I believe in the late 20's or early 30's. Grandpa was then married to a lovely lady by the name of Ann. She was of Polish decent. I believe she died in the 40's.
Uncle Ralph Manzel and Aunt Marian had 4 children, Betty who died of a child disease, then Robert, Nancy & Sue. Robert died in 1998. Aunt Marian died, when, I'm not sure. After she died Uncle Ralph remarried to whom I don't know. I lost contact with him. Grandpa Manzel died in 1977 at the age of 94 in Port Huron, Mich.
My father John Manzel "Sonny" was married to another lady. They had one son, Donald Manzel. They divorced. In 1937 my father John Manzel married my mother, and in 1939 he adopted me giving me the name of Manzel.
My mother died in 1944 and John remarried to Arlene Simpson and had 4 children, Jacqueline, William, Charles and Judy.
I hope this helps you out with any missing information. Any information other than what I have that you have would be greatly welcome.
Thanks, Robert Manzel

MARSHA LYNN MANZEL

I am looking for my birthmother MARSHA LYNN MANZEL. I was born January 19, 1965 at Booth Memorial Hospital In St Louis MO.. run by the Salvation Army. My birth name was Martina Marie Manzel. My birth mother was young.. around 16. That would mean she was born between the years of 1946-1952. She would of been staying in the home from Sept, Oct Or Nov of 1964 thru to my delivery in January. I'm not 100% sure of the middle name Lynn but my amom swears thats what she remembers it being. The probabtion officer involved was Dorthy L Modglin from the St Clair County IL Courthouse in Belleville. I think Marsha may have been shipped there from out of state under the pretext of possibly "going to see a aunt or grandma for a vacation". She may have been from Michigan. Her place of residence on my adoption papers was East St Louis IL. But i can find no trace of her or any Manzels living in the East St Louis/Fairmont City IL area at that time. My amom remembers her having lived in Fairmont City IL.. which is a very small town next to East St Louis. it would of had an East ST Louis Mailing address. Any information no matter how small or trivial will be appreciated. I want to know my birth story and heritage. I want to cause no harm to anyone. I just need closure after 35 years as to who i am and where i came from. I was blessed with wonderful parents who treated me as their own and i'm not bitter. I would love a birth sibling! and I just want to know the woman who carried me in her belly for 9 months.. If anyone knows a Marsha Lynn Manzel.. or a Marsha from East St Louis or the Fairmont City IL area.. or a girl u went to school with that was "missing for several months" in late 1964/1965.. when she was living at the home having me.. please let me know.. also she was catholic.. and requested that i be placed with a catholic family!! Thanks.. and May the Angels guide our searches!!
