I am looking for the parents of Elizabeth (or Eliza) Maple, b. about 1819 and married to Daniel Reed of Coshocton County, Ohio. The only source I can find is the 1850 census that lists her, her husband, children, and a Thomas Maple, age 20. I don't know if Thomas is her brother, cousin, etc. If anyone can give me documented sources, I would be most appreciative. Thanks!

Did other children of Benjamin & Nancy McLaughlin also change their name from Mapel to Maple? - Yes, I suppose most of us Maples are related from back in the late 1600's. According to the late Dr. T. Grant Maple, most of us descended from the immigrant Benjamin Maple who had one son named Benjamin & 6 grandsons. Trying to tie back to one of those 6 grandsons has been a challenge for me.

I am Carol Maple Kiser of the Greene Co., PA, Maples. My Maples moved into West Virginia and Ohio.

My Maple/Mapel lineage comes down from William Mapel(1729) m. Sarah Lee (1732), then William Mapel m. Eleanor White, then Benjamin Mapel (1793)m Nancy McLaughlin (1796), then William Maple (1828) m Eleanor Strosnider(1829), then Jordan Maple (1863)m. Mary E. Cox (1865), then John B. Maple (1894)m Nettie Howard (1993) (Gregg side).

Seems like we should be able to find some connection. My Grandfather John's siblings can be found in Ohio mostly. I have records of my Maples being buried on a farm in Greene Co. PA.

Would love to play detective with any of you. Check out my family trees. Good luck, Cuz.

Hi, and thank you for your reply! I am descended from Thomas Maple, who was born in Carroll County, OH and died in Jackson County, OH. I found Thomas in the 1850 census, showing what I believed to be his father and siblings (no mother). The father (also Thomas Maple, born about 1791) was born in Penn, and all through subsequent census records, Thomas listed his father as being from Penn. When I first contacted T. Grant Maple, he was not sure who my Thomas' father was, but based on the 1850 census, and subsequent census, I am pretty sure we are decsended from Thomas Maple of Penn. I need to dig further into the 1840 census and previous. Thomas was one of 8 children, but I have had very little luck on tracing the siblings (my line was VERY female dominant!).

My earliest traceable Maple ancestor (John Maple 1813-1872) popped up in the 1840 Census in Beaver Cnty PA. In 1850 he was still in Beaver Cnty PA, reported being born in OH. He, his wife & most of their 9 children settled in Scioto Cnty OH in the 1850's. From there the kids went down into IL, some went on to MO & IA. I suspect my John Maple had a brother named Jacob, who was also born in OH & settled in Allegheny Cnty PA - however I was never able to prove my John Maple's ancestry or siblings. Have you checked Dr. T.G. Maple's research?

Hi - Read your post. My husband is named for his Grandfather - Guy Frank Maple. The names of the other people you mentioned are familiar - Ray, Dorothy, etc. I am trying to find information on the Grandfather - Guy Frank Maple. He graduated from Purdue University and was an engineer on the Panama Canal. He served in the military/Army and was a Colonel. He also was a wrestler at Purdue, I think. Guy Sr. and his second wife Katherine retired in Clearwater, Florida. Both are deceased. If you have any further info or if we can "fill in the blanks" together that'd be great.

I am researching my husband's family on his father's side.

His grandfather is Eric Maple Lewis, son of Henry George Lewis (I believe you have Harold but this is incorrect; I have their original marriage certificate.) and Martha Elizabeth Maple from Brompton, Kent (1880). Eric's siblings were Henry Charles Maple (called Rogie and I am in touch with his daughter) and Colin Maple Lewis (known as Bill, no issue).

I have Charles Henry Maple as Martha's father and his dates from 1856-1940. Do you have anything more on this family? I'm looking for anything and everything. My email address is donmary@ripnet.com.

Thanks,
Mary Lewis

Our family is a direct line of the Jacob Maple line, I have been researching this for awhile now and maybe able to help those of you with how these families connected. Please see the Thomas McClain tree by rcmmclain it is filled with Maple and fullers and McClains, and other families that linked all these families together. Its is now a public tree. For questions you may contact me here or write to r_mungaray@msn.com
This tree traces from NY to MD to Ohio to Illinois. please see the 1820 census of Coshocton: linton pg 3/ pg 4, perry, bedford, oxford, many familes here hooked up in this time frame and most of them are here.

I do have one question...
I noticed that David Maple's son is noted as
John Maple b. 1774 PA
d. Oct 1, 1849
married Mary Moody.

However, Jacob Maple, David Maple's son, has a son
John Maple b. 1804
married Mary Moody

I wasn't certain if this was the same people or if there was actually an uncle & nephew who married women with the same name...
Thanks again :)
Samantha Friend

Dear Jamie,
I am a grandson of John Jameson Mapel, to whom the book "The Maple/Mapel Family in America" is dedicated. I have recently established contact with a seventh cousin (also named John Mapel)who would very much like to get a copy of the book or the CD. Would you know any way he could do that? I would really appreciate any help you could give us.
Sincerely,
John Mapel

I'm not sure if I can help, but let's give it a try. I'm a great grandson of Jerome Watrous, known among other things for the fact that he served faithfully as a Union soldier from 1861 through 1865. He played an important role at the Battle of Gettysburg and many other engagements.

Jerome was born in New York state, and spent most of his life in Wisconsin.

If this sounds like a tie-in with your family, please feel free to e-mail me.

I am also a descendent of A.B. Maple. My grandmother was Ethel Maple. You had the brothers names correct but there was no sister named Jean. Mae and Dorothy died of typhoid fever. Ethel had 2 daughters Dorothy Mae and Rosemary Jean (Called Jean). I am Jean's daughter and she is now 82 years old and very healthy. She also has first hand knowledge of your Grandmother, my Aunt Blanche. If you would like to learn more let me know. I think that my mom is one of the last of her family and she would love to share her memories.

Margaret,

Thanks so much for searching for this. I imagine it might be hard to find once getting back to that time period. All the transportation record said he was from Ipswich, so I imagine he must have been born there or close by anyways. I hope you can find something, of all the people that had researched my Benjamin Maple, they can't seem to find anything regarding his parents, or least that is what they said. I know there were Maple's that went to Virginia about the same time period as my Benjamin came to New Jersey, I am just wondering if they might be related somehow.....have done a little research on them, but its like they vanished. Looking forward to hearing back from ya.

jamie
