Hi,

I have been working on my line of the GROENER, GRONER family for over 25 years, but I still don't know from what town in Wurttemberg my grandfather immigrated to America or exactly when. I have never found him on any emmigration lists.

Here's a what I have in brief:

1. Fritz Jacob GROENER/GRONER (1864-1942) & Mary Molly
McPHERSON 1872-1961)
2. Max Louis GRONER (1902-1944)
2. Lillian GRONER (1904-2001)
2. James Andrew GRONER (1906-1980)
2, Minnie Esther GRONER (1909 -?
2. Viola Louise GRONER (1915-2010)

The name of Fritz's father was Jacob, his mother's was Mary. He had 4 sisters, don't know their names. One of my cousins says he told her he came here through Canada. He is supposed to have had either an uncle or an aunt here at the time he came over when he was somewhere between the age of 13 or 16. I first find him as Fred Groner on the 1880 U.S. CENSUS in Vermillion, LaSalle, Illinois. There's not much information on his Citizenship Paper.

He met my grandmother when he went to visit a friend in Arkansas. His parents were supposed to be reasonably well-off, I've heard they owned a department store in Germany.
Other than that, I don't have any more information, but would love to hear if someone else knows more.

h

Hi there, I am Gloria Mari. I am also looking for any info on the Mari origin. My family emigrated to Cuba from Spain as well, and then the states. I noticed that there are Mari's all over the world. Did you ever find the coat of arms? Where in Spain is your family from? Have you set up a family tree yet?

Thanks,

Gloria

Hi Marielle,

The will was sent to me be my second cousin Mike Peter. His grandfather Cosme is my Grandfather Luiz Ramos Y Torres' brother.

It was given to him by an older member of the family many years ago. A copy was given to every sibling in his family as proof of relation to the De Mari line. I think the original is held by a very distant relative in Mayaguez.

The (my) Stafano De Mari was born in Corsica, Genoa in 1535. Enclosed is the last page; three. There is a typo: He was Doge from 1563-65. Also, Brigitte and Charles Cybo had ten children. I am from that line and am attempting to trace exactly whom my progenitor is.

Thank you,

Vic
My maiden name is Mari. I grew up in Colorado, where most of my relatives are from. My grandpa was born in Sewald, Germany & migrated to the United States (I believe with his parents). I have seen that there are a lot of Mari's in the state of New York, but not sure how they pronounce their name and what their heritage is. I would like to know if anyone wants to respond. We think that maybe sometime way back when, the name may have been shortened from something longer, but not sure.
Dearest Jose Antonio,
Thank you very much for having the time and effort corresponding with me even if I am way way behind my research. Yes, I would love to hear from your uncle David! I hope he can send me more informations and if possible the coat of arms and the other one that has a slight changes. I like to write you a longer letter. Do you have email address? Mine is (nigel_mari@hotmail.com) Hope to hear from you.
My relatives from where my father came from (Pangasinan, Philippines) have told us that our lastname Mari came from one of the first batch of Japanese imported by the Americans to build the Kennon Road of Baguio, again there are no written accounts, but as soon as I get a leave from work I will personally go there. But I kinda believe the stories as mostly of my relatives are malay/oriental looking. Like me, I have samurai shaped light brown eyes and golden brown skin. I have listed my sister here by the name of Geraldine (Electronics & Comm. Engineer) based in Bali, Indonesia, you might hear from her. I'm hoping to hear from you. Also, If you like I can send you our family's picture, just let me know your postal address. You can send yours too if it is not too huge of a hassle. Muchas Gracias Jose Antonio! God Bless. Oh! I'm turning 30 this June 13, better hurry up with my research-Ha,ha,ha! I'l buy you a beer OK? Ciao!

Just starting search. BERNARD "MARI" of Prussia(probably Westphalia)was the father of my great grandmother MARIA MARI MASSMANN and then married to my G-grandfather KARL A. STEINKAMPF. BERNARD'S wife's name was KATHARINE SINGER. MARIA "MARI" MUSSMAN WAS 32 when she married KARL IN 1871 IN PITTSBURGH PA. She apparently was born in Westphalia around 1839. She died in Pittsburgh 1898.

Let me know if you have anything that relates.

Bernard Mari and Katharine Singer

My Great Grandfather was Karl A. Steinkampf(age 35)in 1871. He married Maria Massmann (age 32)on December 31, 1871 in Pittsburgh, PA. This is from from Saint Michael Marrige Records 1849-1871-Pittsburgh PA. This same record states the MARIA MASSMANN was the daughter of BERNARD MARI and KATHERANE SINGER, Sponsers at the marriage were Michael Kremiller and Paul Stock. I beleive this was Maria's second marriage as her name was Massmann at the time of the marriage and not MARI. It was not noted as to where Bernard and Mari and Katherane Singer lived at the time.

I beleive that your Bernard Mari and Katherine Singer are also my GGGrand parents.

My Great Grand father first married a Johanne Sophie Massmann on July 21, 1861 in Belefeld, Westphalia, Germany. I beleive the Maria Massmann mentioned above was a sister-in-law of Johanne Massmann.

Family history states that Karl sent to Berlin Germany for Maria after his wife died in in the late 1860's. There were several children.

Karl Steinkamps died in 1885? and Maria remarried a August Groene. Mary Massmann died at age 59(1898) and is buried in St. Georges Cemetery in Pittsburgh PA

That all I have right now. I'd be willing to trade documents with you if you get back to me. I do have a ged file set up on this side of the family.

Talk to you again soon.

Jack Steinkamp

Massmann who passed away and then married my Great Grand Father(Karl Adolph Steinkamp} in Pittsburgh PA around 1870. After my GGfather died about 1885 She married August Groene. It's very possible ther Groene's and Groner's are the same family tree.
I was born and raised in the Philippines as were my father and grandfather. My greatgrandfather was from a town called San Tander in Spain....the Mari's in spain go a pretty long way back...according to my research, the name Mari derives from Mare which means "the sea" in spanish....consequently, Santander is a small Fishing town, hence the word Marineros or fishermen...i didnt realize there were so many other Mari's in the States and around Europe....I wonder if there is a link?

Hi, I don't really know much about our ancestry going back to corsica...is it possible that maybe some names were developed from different origins and coincidentally turned out to be the same, anyway will let you know if i find anything deeper on the name Mari, do the same please....do you have any spanish connection, because i'm definitely sure about my spanish blood, let me know of any new developments.
