Saw your post. Not sure are still looking, but there is a Wade Hampton Marietta that married, in Maryland, a Minnie Percy. The Percy family (her father James K Percy)lived in Maryland on the 1860 census. Wade's family is from Fayette County, PA. Maybe this is the connection?

So far each census I've looked at seems to give them the same age, which depending on birthdates wouldn't have to be the same year. As much as some seemed to like the YR. MO. DA. method in place of the actual information, it did and does rely on how good the arithmetic was.

I've found many that just seemed off to me, maybe it's my math at fault. I've even found them with both the actual birthdate and the YR. MO. DA. that didn't work out to be the same birthdate.

78y, 1m, 12d. = 23 March 1812

77y, 11m, and 19d = 16 May 1812

So there isn't actually that much difference between them and I don't believe the Census dates would be of any help.

Harriet, Margaret, and Mary MARIETTA, I'm assuming they are in age order, which would make Mary the one still at home in the 1860 Census and Margaret "Maggie" the Domestic living in a Hotel?

So far, except for my own listing, I don't believe I've seen a family chart for the entire family. Do you know Susannah's parents?

I have HeritageQuest so some years I can't search. 1860 is the 1st Census I find them in.

Uriah age 48 1812
S = Susannah 48 1812
H = Harriet 28 1832

J = Jacob 19 1841
M = Mary 17 1843
J = ? 15 Male 1845
S = Shedrick 12 1848
D = Daniel 10 1850
Wm. = William 1 1859 born IA, the rest PA.

M = Margaret "Maggie" 20 1840 PA away from home.

1870 Census

Jacob 29, Shedrick 22 and Daniel 20 are still with Uriah and Susan.

Has William died? What about J., age now ca. 25?

1880 Census

Daniel 29, wife Mary J. 23 and son William 1 are still with Uriah and Susan A. [This doesn't seem to agree with Find a Grave.] As I recall, it was clear, but maybe I read it wrong.

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gsr&GSln=M...;

Marietta, Daniel
b.
Thank you for replying to my post. I'll have to double check those you found on findagrave.com. We have many Iowa, Kansas, and Missouri connections that I have found over the course of the past several years...

I was able to visit the graves of Uriah and Susannah in Iowa. Uriah's headstone was knocked down at one time. The stone was put back up with iron angle supports on the sides, unfortunately obscuring part of his age. The entire stone is weathering badly. However, it should read 78y, 1m, 12d. His death certificate gives 77y, 11m, and 19d. I go with the headstone as both dates were surely provided by the family, and the info on the certificate was probably provided in a time of stress. But one cannot be certain. No primary source for his date of birth has yet been found.

Susannah's headstone today is more readable today than Uriah's. Her stone should read b Mar 1 1812, d Oct 28 1888. The stone gives the dates and does not state her age. No death certificate was found in response to my request. As with Uriah, no primary source has been found as yet for her date of birth.

I had seen your posts, and others, in response to Cathy's posts. They will help in pursuing more information about Margaret's branch of the family. I am particularly interested in finding information about all of Uriah's daughters. Unfortunately, daughters are elusive until a marriage can be found.

I have a copy of the divorce judgement wherein Margaret divorced Tout. This was a part of
William Frazier's Civil War Pension records.

In 1870,Indianola, Iowa, Margaret and children Hattie and Charles Tout lived a couple of houses down from Elenora Frazier Hall, William Frazier's sister or neice. That is likely how William and Maggie met.

Margaret is my great great grandmother. She was the mother of Edward William Frazier, born 1876, Indianola, Iowa. Edward's son was Frank Beaumont Frazier, born MO around 1900. He died long before I was born. My father was Frank Frazier's son, HL "Bud" Frazier, who died when I was 21 yrs old, long before I ever thought of asking about ancestors. Of course, I would like to know anything I could find about the Marietta family history. Were they Irish, Italian or French?

Thanks for contacting me! I have found the marriage record for Margaret Youtt (that's how it's recorded) and William Frazier in Warren County on 4 Mar 1875, and further census records for this family to 1880. Of course there is much more research to do. Clarke County records do not show her first marriage. Do you have any more information about Margaret's marriage to James Toutt? Are you interested in further information about the Marietta family?

I am seeking information on Harriet, Margaret, and Mary MARIETTA - daughters of Uriah MARIETTA. All three were born in Fayette or Somerset Counties, Pennsylvania. Harriet was born about 1833, Margaret about 1839, and Mary about 1843. In 1857 the family left Pennsylvania for Iowa, settling initially in Clarke County. The three sisters appear in the Clarke County 1860 census, and that's the last I've found on them so far. The family later moved to adjacent Warren County, but the sisters do not appear in the 1870 census. Marriage, death, and cemetery records of both Clarke and Warren counties have been searched without success as yet. Does anyone have any information on what became of any these three young women?

Hello, I too am looking for any information on the Marietta surname that I can find. Below, you will find the information that I have already collected on the individual that I am searching for:

Madelina Marietta ( spelling of first name may be wrong). Born on February 17, 1881, Coassolo, Torinesse, Province Piedmonte, Italy; immigrated to the United States at the age of 16. She left one brother and two sisters in Italy and had 2 brothers and 1 sister already in the United States. Eventually, 1 brother and her sister went back to Italy, leaving 1 brother still in the US, His name was Joe Marietta; he had a grocery store in Diamond, Indiana and later moved to Universal. In approxiamatly 1899, Madelina married August Vanzo, they had 8 children: FRank, Mary, Vigle, Roy Joseph, Georgina, John, George, and August Jr. If this matches any of your information, then please do not hesitate to contact me. I am currently researching the Ellis Island reports, I believe I may have found Madelina's passage over.

I had posted here before but I have since then come across some new information, so I thought I would share.
~Madelina Marietta, born on February 17, 1881 in Coassolo Torinesse, Province Piedmonte, Italy. Came to the United States when she was 16 years old. She left one brother and two sisters in Italy. In the US, she came to Diamond, Indiana, where she had two brothers and one sister. Her sister ran a boarding house in Diamond Indiana (around the year 1897). Madelina's parents were of French decent. After her arrival in the states, one brother went back to Italy, followed by her sister (and her sisters husband) shortly after. In 1899, Madelina married August Vanzo at St Mary's Catholic Church in Diamond, Indiana. They had eight children together: Frank (born abt 1902, married Minnie Vercolio), Mary (born August 18, 1903, married Henry Kehoe), Vigle (born April 8, 1905, married Mary Verhonik), Roy (born September 30, 1906, married Catherine Ferro), Georgina (born April 18, 1908), John (born January 3, 1910, married Margaret Simm), George (born July 19, 1913, married Mary Brunetto), and August Jr (born November 29, 1917, married Louise Hardie).
My husband's gr-grandmother's sister was a Martha Jane Tryon Marietta. Her husband was David Marietta. They lived in Vinton and Dysert, both in Benton Co, Iowa when they were first married. I believe that his father's name was also David and he was living there in the 1880 census. David and Martha lived at Clarion, Wright County, IA for awhile before moving to Chardin, Rawlins Co, KS. They are buried at Atwood. They had a large family. But anyway, you might try Benton Co, Iowa, and I know David (II) had brothers and sisters in that area.

Re: CORRECTION: Marietta from Coassolo to Perth, Carbon, Clinton INDIANA

This is a correction to my last previous post. In it i stated that Domenica Vietti Marietta (b. 1844, Coassolo?, d. 1908, Perth, IN) was the mother of Giovanni Marietta, who was killed in a tunnel collapse in France, near Coassolo, in 1888. This is a incorrect. She was his WIFE. Sorry about any confusion.

Ciao
Linda Zambanini
LZambeni@alumni.indiana.edu
Bloomington, IN USA

I have now traced my paternal side back to Joseph A. Marietta born 1815 in Pa.(Brother of Uriah) According to other relatives his father was Joseph Marietta born 1780 or so in Maryland, son of Jacob. I have not verified this Maryland connection but I am working on it.

Beth Marietta Lyons
