Albert Frohberger received a photo postcard about 1908 from the Teichgraber family in Germany, his cousins I believe. Five children were pictured: Erich B__dt, Johanns Marker, Gretchen ___, Ida Marker, and Rudi Teichgraber. Can someone identify this family or any of its members? Albert's mother was Emma Teichgraber, daughter of Friederich Teichgraber. Emma lived much of her life in Erfurt. The postmark was removed from the card with the stamp.

Question info re Susan F. Hinkins married to Jacob Willey. As an old woman, widowed after Jacob Willey died, Susan lived with my mother, my mother's brother, and my grandmother & her husband, George Alfred Willey, in Lansdowne, Maryland. My grandmother told me many stories when I was a child about Susan. So how could she have died before Jacob Willey if she was a widow?

I am a descendant of a William Marker b 1873 and married a Virmadella (Della) in the mid to late 1890s. I earliest I have found William on any census is in 1900 living in Gloucester County, NJ with an uncle (Frank Kronberger).

William and Della had 4 (possibly 5 children) - Hamilton b 1899, Isabell b 1901, Mary b 1903 (my grandmother) and Anne b 1905. The 1910 Census also lists a son named Frank b 1909ish (although no one in the family has ever heard of a Frank)

I can follow William through the 1920 census. In 1930, Della is listed as a widow, but the story is that William left her so she may have considered him dead and thus stated she was a widow to the census worker.

I have nothing prior to 1900 and nothing after 1920. Would this happen to be the William that you have referred to? If so, any possible information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Marianne

Hello Leanne,

My husband is the G Grandson of Henry's father. His grandfather was Alfred MARKER.
Your GGG Grandfather was also Henry Marker and he arrived in Australia in January 1839 on the "Theresa" after being convicted of "stealing from the till". Henry Snr was only 19 when he arrived here. In 1864 he married Ellen Lewis and they had 11 children. I have further information on him if you are interested.
My searches on your GG Grandfather so far have unearthed 7 children the eldest of whom is your G Grandmother. You can probably tell me more about them.

Catherine Marker
Note: from Newspaper article dated May 9, 1978 printed in the Pemberville Leader.

An early landmark of this locale was the Ten Mile House, an old inn at the northwest corner of Sugar Ridge Road and Route 199. The building is believed to remain as part of the structure of the Leroy Gottschalk house. The hostelry, operated by the Beaupre family, earned its name by virtue of the fact that it was ten miles distance from Perrysburg on the McCutcheonville Pike. Charles Beaupre operated a post office here in the early days and it also served as the community meeting place for elections, dances, and exchange of local news items as well as being a tavern. Later the Ten mile house was a private dwelling owned by Darius Scott and in the 1890s by Asahel Philo. Near here the last bear in Wood County was killed in the fall of 1858, the hunting party was spending the night at the Ten Mile.

The 1829 birth would be Hannah. The 1831 baptism could be Isaiah or Credilla. Those two names keep popping up but I can't tie them in.

There is a five year gap between Hannah and John. So it is likely that there is a baptism in 1831.
Rick

Well, Richard, I guess you answered the question of Sarah's date of birth earlier, and I hadn't read all the posts when I responded this morning. But, you asked further back who's files are "credible." You can eliminate one.

With Sarah's dob being July 1844, she is certainly NOT the daughter of Henry Sr. or Henry II here in Somerset Co.

As I had mentioned, John R and Maria/Mary had two recorded baptisms in Somerset Co. - one in 1829 and a second in 1831. Do you have the dates of birth of the rest of their children, in addition to Sarah?

Linda

In a letter wrote by John R. to his wife Mary on 5 July 1837 from Nelsonville, OH. and received 16 Sept at Somerset, PA. Beverly Kirkpatrick Petrak has letter in her possession.

John was a carpenter and left Pennsylvania with a debt and legal problems. He was having a terrible disagreement with his mother and brother. Started his carriage trade by building carriage for the man he lived with in Nelsonville, Ohio.

John then tells Mary to sell possessions and how to get to Nelsonville by steam boat by way of Louisville. He tells her that the poor people at Nelsonville live better than the rich in Pennsylvania and that he will "keep you a lady as long as you live for I can make money here like dirt."
Nelsonville is about 16 miles north of Athens, Ohio.
Richard, not meaning to insult you, but is that mess yours? Perhaps an old effort that you didn't get off the internet? Can you get it off there? Can you get that George Marker/Mary Pancake link off our John R Marker b. 1779. It'll just get recopied around the internet, and it's not right.

Also, the George that married Mary Ann McDowell is NOT the same John that married Jane Sloan. Wrong, wrong, wrong.

Linda
