Hello,
I saw a post of yours fro 2000 or 2001... As I write this- I can't see the post any more...
You said you had a picture of Samuel Markham- father of Edwin Markham. My husband is through that line. I would love a picture of Samuel... I have been researching the Markhams for a long time. We have been to Silverton, OR where the cemetery is that Samuel is buried in. I have a picture of that. I have also just recently seen it on Ancestry... so others have traveled there too.
Would enjoy a chat...
If you can send picture- do so to csfotogrl10@gmail.com
Thanks,
Carol

Okay, it took me awhile to track down just where I did get that info! It was from a family tree by Nance Simmons dated 21 Mar 2007. She listed Peter & Friederica Magadalena's marriage date as 18 Jul 1763 but not the place. i haven't worked on this line for some time. I have been going back over every line and "cleaning up" loose items. That appears to be one I need to work on!

Hi Ruth, Can you please give me your source for Peter Palmer m. Madeline Hagey as a son of Christian Eberhardt Balmer? I thought that for a while, also, but had no proof. I have seen other researchers who believe this peter Palmer is a son of Hans Jacob Balmer, son of Hans George Balmer and would be a cousin of Christian. This is a brick wall for me, so I am interested in your research. Thanks for any insight you might have. Thanks! gail

Markham and Reynolds family from Boonville area of Owsley County, Kentucky

I am searching for information regarding my Great Great Grand Parents: Edward W. Markham and Malinda Reynolds, from Owsley County, KY.

Edward W. Markham, was born on 30 May 1848 in Lee County, Virginia. As for his death I have found conflicting information. One story I have found is that he died in Montana but later buried on 6 Jan 1908 in Shawnee, Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma. Yet I am confused because on the grave stone in Oklahoma the name is listed as “E.W. Markham”, so I am unsure if this is even correct or the right Edward (if that even was the deceased guys name, as there are only initials). The other story I have is that he died and was buried in Montana, but I cannot find any death or grave records to prove this. The third story is that he was buried in Owsley Co. but I cannot find anything to prove that.

And as for his wife:
Malinda Reynolds and she was born on 17 Aug 1860 in Boonville, Owsley, Kentucky And died on 31 Dec 1931 in Sunnymead, Riverside, California. I have found a lot on information on her family, as the Reynolds were one of the first families to settle the Boonville area. The main place though that I am running into a lot of confusion is with the Markhams.

I have found a few "Markham" genealogy sites that have an Edward W. Markham listed as the son of a James Sanders Markham who was born: 31 May 1814 in Bedford County, Virginia, USA and Died on 14 Jul 1882 in Owsley, Kentucky, United States. I am essentially trying to find information that connects my Edward W. Markham to this line of Markham’s. Edward was the son of James S. Markham who was the son of James E. Markham, who descended from John Nathan Markham (the Revolutionary War Solider).

I also found that no one has done any extensive research on Edward W. Markham. I have found other sites and research done by descendants of his brothers, but not him:
James Moses Markham (1843-1911)
Silas Parker Marcum (1846-1933)
Andrew Jackson Markham (1850-1911)
Henry Clay Markham (1853-1857)
William M. Markham (1856-1857)

Edward W. and Malinda had 12 children:
Charles Carl Markham (1883-1963)
Dora Ella Markham (1884-1960)
Zion Clayton Markham (1888-1969)
Edgar Leming Markham (1890-1980)
Anna Belle Markham (1892-1964)
James L Markham (1894-)
Bettie M Markham (1895-1979)
Vernon W Markham (1897-1965)
Mildred D "Milly" Markham (1898-1997)
Everett W. Markham (1898-1977)
*Leona Bertha Markham (1903-1977)
Theodore R Markham (1904-1995)

*With my Great-Grandmother being Leona Bertha Markham, She was born on 28 Mar 1903 in Owsley, Kentucky, and she died 20 Feb 1977 in Long Beach, Los Angeles, California, United States of America

If anyone has any information about this family, please post or message me, as anything would be helpful!

-Annette M.
Hello Maureen,
Back in 200-2001 you wrote some posts on Edwin Markham and his family. My husband is in this familie's collaterol line through Samuel Barazilla Markham. Samuel is buried in Silverton, Oregon. A very nice monument was placed there long after his death. We visited that site several years ago. Samuel is noted as an Oregon Pioneer to that region which is south of Oregon City about 40 miles..... I am interested in all of the Markham family hx. Would like to hear from you.
Carol

Can anyone help with information about the following family...

James Markham, 20 years old, from O’Brien’s Bridge, County Clare arrived Sydney 23 Nov 1863 as an assisted passenger onboard “John Vanner”.

Parents stated as Michael & Margaret. Shipping documents also sate he was to join his brother Joseph at Hopkins Creek (the only Hopkins Creek that I can find is in northern New South Wales where there was timber getting at the time).

His brother, Joseph, paid a deposit of 5 pounds on 21 Jan 1863 for James’ passage to Australia. The parish priest at Killaloe Parish was named as a referee. I am assuming that Joseph was already in Australia when he paid this deposit.

James moved to Christchurch New Zealand. When his first child Joseph, was born in Christchurch in March 1879 he state he married Mary Ann Murphy (Tilahenny, County Wicklow) on 7 January 1878 in Brisbane (no evidence to support this marriage exists).James was last listed in 1894 on the Electoral Roll as living in Byron Street, Christchurch. They were back in Australia living in Barraba in New South Wales in 1898.

I have not been able to find any information at all on Joseph in Australia - death, marriage, etc.
Can anyone help with a connection in County Clare or in New Zealand?

Margaret (nee Markham)
Sydney Australia

Re: MARKHAM/FULMER families of Conway Co.,AR

William Roy and Lora Faye (Fulmer) are my parents. Dad was born in Morrilton, Conway County, AR 11-22-1908. Mother was born 3-25-1924 in Conway, Faulkner County, AR, They married 3-26-1939 in Faulkner County (yes, there was a age difference, about 16 years). They left Arkansas with their children and his mother in 1944 and went to California. In 1953 we moved to Missouri, and in 1956 moved to New York. Dad died 8-20-1971 and is buried at Rhinebeck Cemetery, Rhinebeck, NY. After his death mother went to California (where I was living), and after my husband and I moved to Missouri (his home state) mom joined us. She passed away 5-11-1998 in Nevada, MO. She is buried at Rhinebeck Cemetery also. Their childen: Charlene (from dad's first marriage), Robert 1-5-1940, Terry and Jerry (twins) 10-18-1940 (a premature birth at 7 months, Jerry didnot survive), Barbara 11-2-1941, Anna 5-1-1943 (died at one month), Bill 11-13-1944. Robert died 4-20-1992. Dad's parents were Ada Elizabeth Edwards and Charles William Markham. Mom's parents were Florence Ethel Carter and William Wesley Fulmer. I hope this information helps. If you want more info my e-mail is morris.barbara45@yahoo.com.

Hello Joe,
All I can say is we have a mystery.. on our hands.
There appears to be two Amos Markhams- both list date of birth as Jan. 11, 1831.. One went to MI the other to Ohio. I saw a Family tree you have and it listed Father of Ira as Mark? Mother unknown...

You are right when you say- Amos is listed in MI for many census reports and died there apparently after the 1910 census. The other Amos in Ohio died much earlier...

Now how can we have two Amos Markhams born same date in Rush, NY. ?????

There are family trees out there on both of them.
I am not sure what is the truth of this matter... I could be convinced either way. This is where it gets a bit sticky.

We will call the Ohio Amos Markham No. 2- his parents are listed as Ira Markham and Susan Nichols. He does have a brother named Marcus. Look at the 1850 Census.
Now Amos Markham, No. 1 who went to MI- birth date same as No.2 Amos. Parents different from No. 2.

What are we to believe? Amos 1- in a 1863-1865 Civil War Draft Registration from MI lists both Marcus and Amos Markham- both are married and are farmers and their ages are correct. That along with the fact that you put Amos's middle name as IRA in ( ) - would go along with his father being named IRA...

My husband is related to the branch of the Markhams that settled in Avon- Rush NY. Col. William Markham- III. He is known as the first permanent settler of Rush... He had a son named Ira who had a son named Amos born Jan. 11, 1831. Is that Amos really your Amos? If so where did this Amos No. 2 come from? see why I am confused...

Please advise......

We could be cousins....
Carol
You can write to me direct at rancherosun1@yahoo.com
Carol,

Great to hear from you.

Amos (Ira?) Markham (1831-1911) was born in Rush, Monroe, NY. The 1860 Census shows him to be in Girard, Branch, MI. The 1870-1910 Census shows him in Coldwater, Branch, MI.

I appreciate any help that I could receive on this branch of the family. I know little of this side of the family.

Hello Joe,
My husband comes from a long line of Markhams from NY. Can you tell me where in NY your Markhams are from and where did they go in MI? My husband's great great grandfather left NY for MI.. Though your Markham names do not sound familiar- who knows?
The mysteries that allude us all...
Cheers,
carol
