My trace has a Jonnathon (John/Jon) born 1805, in Buckinghamshire, England to Hugh and Anne Marks of Sommerset. Jonnathon married a Sarah and both are burried in Buckinghamshire. The family records are sketchy and may go back to William Markes (b:1726)in sommerset.

There were a few sons and there seems to be a John in each family branch; perhaps one is yours.

John Marks

I believe the Conrad Marks line is a different line unfortunately. There is an entire book written about that line that I was really excited about. In the end, I couldn't make the connection to my line. If you haven't found it yet, it is called the Marks-Schnader Connection and the whole version is available on familysearch.com If I find out we are somehow related to the Berks county Marks's I will be really excited since someone already did all the history for that side of the family (It goes all the way back to switzerland btw).

Looking for Benjamin Marks 1817, son of Avie McGregor Marks Huckabee. Any information on his true father, Mr. Marks, who must have died very young after having two boys with Avie. I have accounts of her "moving back to family after her husband died with two small boys." She then married Bartlett Huckabee, whom her father was not fond of. Her sister also married a Huckabee. She was not given anything in her father's will, only a small amount was left to the Mark's boys

I also have several George Marks in my line from PA, but cannot connect the birth date or other names. I have a strong feeling we are connected since the name George Washington followed through my line as well. The possibility is that your George was a nephew of my Conrad Marks. Is that name in your line? In my case it appears that it goes Conrad, George, Conrad, George and so on! John and Henry are common names as well. I am actively working on this line so I will keep an eye out for your names in my Berks County, PA research. Do you have a specific location? My MARKS family is mainly from Exeter and Cumru Townships - southern Berks County.

I don't know if boys middle names have anything to do with their father/fathers surname. You might try to order their birth certs and/or SS applications. If Henry Johnson's name appears that should be incorrect. If you have a direct male descendant from Bales to his son, Paul, to a grandson of Bales thru his son, Paul - his ydna may be tested to find out most likely surname of Bales father. Let me know if you have any questions.

I would love to talk with you since you must be a relative and we could share more detail. Please contact me at ptyward@comcast.net.
Hi Evelyn, My Great grandmother was Ella Marks Chisolm b. 1875, d. 1942. Her father was Molly Morris Marks and her Mother was Lucinda Smith Marks. I too have linked Mollie to Issac Marks. Have you found out anything else. My Uncle has done a great job with lots of family stories that have helped with some of my research. Ella has 3 sisters Annie, Susie and Mary, along with her brother Jonas. My Uncle tells of how Mollie Morris was shot and killed in Yazoo City in the prime of his life and Lucinda died soon after. Ella Marks went to live with Mrs. Lee "Nannie" Duggan in Yazoo County when she was 14-17 years old. My Uncle doesn't know where the other kids went. I have not been able to fine Ella Marks Lucinda Markson any census reports, but I have found Lucinda Smith and her mother and father ...if your are interested.

Hope to hear from you soon, Linda

Most of this is correct, however where did the "married twice" com from for George and Laura?

By the way there is a still born child, Lottie Mae who is
buried in Mt. Olivet Cemetary in Hanover, Pa. I would hope to someday get her down to Druid Ridge with her parents and family. (actually idea of Uncle George Marks around 2000)

I have information on Daniel, who married Susan and lived in Topeka Kansas (with Adopted son), Sarah who married Samuel Heagy and is buried in the plot next to the Marks plot in Druid Ridge Cemetary in Baltimore. Both Angelina and Mary Ann died within days of one another around 1846 and are buried in the East Berlin Union Cemetaryjust outside of Abbottstown. Parents George and Hannah are buried there as well. I have pictures and the Cemetary record. I believe that John and Henry may have been lost in the Civil War, but I haven't proven that yet. There was also a Jacob who born in 1854 and lived in Ohio. Ihave a letter from the York Historical society stating that they
were (4) were present when Old George died in 1885. There is also a land plat number listed.

Please get in touch with me

I have hit a dead end and am hoping someone can help. I am looking for a George Marks (1810) who married a woman named Hannah (1811). They are both listed as being born in Pennsylvania and seem to have had 7 children. John, Henry, Daniel, Sarah, Mary Ann, Angelina and George Washington Marks (who married Virginia Emmert and moved to MD). The only one I have any kind of information on is George W and it is very basic. All the others I simply have a birth year and birth locations for a few. This line seems to have just disappeared into nothingness and I can't seem to figure out what might have happened. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Ollie,
Lucy Meriwether Lewis's parents were Thomas Meriwether and Elizabeth Thornton. Her grandparent's were David and Anne Holmes Meriwether and Francis and Mary Taliaferro Thornton. Lucy's siblings were; Nicholas, Francis, David, Mary, Elizabeth, Sarah, Nancy, Mildred, Thomas, and Jane. Lucy married Col. William Lewis and had three children; Meriwether Lewis, Reuben Lewis, and Jane Lewis. Her second marriage was to Capt. John Marks by which she had two children, John Hastings Marks and Mary Garland Marks.

I noticed your last name is Clarke. Would you by any chance be related to a Rev. George Clarke whose wife was Elizabeth Bowker. They lived in Newberry District, South Carolina, and are buried in the Ebenezer Cemetery.

Please let me hear from you.

Rufus Buie
rufusbuie@tds.net

My James H Marks was born abt 1785 and married Elizabeth Bradley. We do have some Henrys in the line, however I do not see any connection unless the father of My James H and your William Glass Marks could have been brothers or Cousins. I have seen ref. that maybe Nathan was my James father, but no proof at the present time. I will keep eyes open.
Sorry I could not help.
ed
