Hi, Daphne! If you're the Daphne Tom Moneypenny thinks you are, I'm your second cousin. (Mary Marple Rose was my grandmother, and no, I'm not Janet. :) ) If you'll look in the court house in Sutton for Ezekiel's death record, you'll see that his parents are listed as "John and Jane Marple." That John seems to have been the brother of the Ezekiel who married Elizabeth Miller, so his grandparents are still Ezekiel and Prudence. Jane's maiden name was Wright. Barbara can give you my e-address.

Mary C.

My great great grandmother was Matilda Marple (b: 1846 or 1847) in West Virginia (Barbour or Frederick)

She had 2 sons, Elza W Williams (1866) and James D Williams (1868), that show up in the 1870 and 1880 census.

As of the 1860 census, she was still living with her parents.

I'm having a devil of a time finding information on her husband, who apparently died prior to 1870 as she is listed as a widow.

Any information on this line would be very much appreciated:)

I am the grandson of Pauline Marple Sutherly. My name is Travis Sutherly. I just found your post about Pauline. I know this post is kind of old but I was hoping we could share some information. I have just about anything you might need on Pauline's family particularly the Sutherly side. I need a little more info on Minnie Marple and Joseph McCarty and all of their children, together or otherwise. Pauline's oldest daughter just passed away Mar. 2010. Pauline still has 3 children still living, Sue, Bill, and Wanda. I would love to get in contact with you. Please contact me at my home e-mail (sutherly@shentel.net). My records show Pauline was born in 1911 but my aunt tells me that she may have been born in 1910. No one seems to know for sure who Pauline's father was but it is suspected that it was Joseph McCarty.

I am searching for information on David Fuller McDaniels who was married to Mary G. Marple, D/O David Marple and Margaret Armstrong from Licking Ohio. The Marple side has been fairly easy but David dropped in fron nowhere. I am not sure if he was from Ohio or came with the Marples from Pa. My only small clue is his Son was Charles Fuller, makeing me wonder if Fuller might have been his Mothers last name. David Marple named one of his sons David Fuller after him also. David and Mary moved to Mo, Mary went back to Ohio to visit and died there, she is buried in the Marple Cemetery there and David buried in Mo. Hope this rings a bell with someone. It gets better for me, the next generation is Johnson's, only a few of them around :>) Thanks, Dixie Peoples

Hi Robert

Further to your last message (photo's). At the moment I don't have any, if I do I will send you some. Also about his medals I don't know where they are, never seen them in my life time. It seem's that this poor chap had been forgotten for so long until now that is. I remember asking my Grand-father & Grand-mother why we were standing still on a sunday morning when I was about 4-5yrs of age, to which I was told that my Grand-dad had lost a brother in the great war & my Grand-ma had lost her dad as well. This memory has only come back to me since I found out about Willie, also could I get a copy of his medals from the war office at all, no idea where his originals are & the relevant paper work.

Kind regards
Jason

Hello Rod, thanks for the extra information. I can clear up up how he was a Searjeant in the Coldstrean guards after just 2.5 years.

Charles left the army in 1912 and began work in the clerical department of Vickers Ltd. In 1914 he was called up as a reservist.

So he may have taken his previous rank.

Thanks

Robert.

Hello Robert

Charles's birth was registered in the September quarter 1886 in Sheffield. He was the son of Joseph Wildsmith Marples, joiner & Ellen Mosley, and had 3 elder brothers and a younger sister.

On 3rd January 1913 he married Mary Ellen Last at which time he was a clerk, living at 8 Burton Street. They married in Owlerton parish church in north west Sheffield. They had a daughter Mary A. whose birth was registered in the December quarter in Sheffield.

I am slightly uneasy about the identification of Serjeant Charles Marples as this Charles Marples, as there is nothing in the above to suggest that they are one and the same person. I find it odd thhat someone who was a clerk in 1913 is a serjeant in the Coldstream Guards two and a half years. The identification of this Charles as Serjeant Charles came fom onne of his siblings' descendants.

That's all I've got and I hope it helps a bit.

Kind regards

Rodmeu

I am looking for info on my grt. grandma Avis Marie Johnson who was adopted by Bertha Johnson (Marple). I was told that she was a triplet and she was adopted when she was 3 yrs old (about 1918). She may have been the daughter of bertha's sister who died of the influenza outbreak about 1917 or 1918. An old letter said Kenneth Marple of Florida had more info of Avis' birth parents. I believe Avis was born July 11, 1915 in Joplin, MO or around Howell County. Any info please e-mail dixiedoodahday@yahoo.com
Marples family, Sheffield, UK

Since my last posting, I have found the following:
Joseph Marples born 1855 (son of Charles & Rachel) married Ellen Somerset in 1877 Sheffield.
They had 5 children:
1. Mary Ellen born 1879.
2. Edith born 1884
3. Charles born 1886
4. Elizabeth born 1888
5. William born 1890

Ellen Marples died March 1/4 1893 (possibly in childbirth as found Joseph born/died same quarter 1893.
Joseph Marples died in 1895.

On the 1901 census 4 of the Marples children - Mary Ellen, Edith, Elizabeth & William were with their Aunt Elizabeth & her husband William Lee. The other child Charles was with his Aunt Ann & her husband Frank Willey. It is believed that Ann & Frank Willey adopted Charles Marples.

Please contact me if any of these names are familiar to you.

Thanks,
Anne
