Well this clears up the Ida/Flora question - they ARE the same person. Ida Flora Marquette (instead of Ida Marquette and Flora Marquette). I'm going to input this new info into Ancestry and see what it comes back with.

I found both Ida/Flora and Frank on the 1900 census, Martha is there too:

http://search.ancestry.com/iexec?htx=View&r=an&dbid=...

I had already attached the record to Martha, not knowing of Ida's married name.

Yes, Harry P was Josephus and Martha's youngest son. He's on the California Death Index. This is not the "John Harry" you mentioned.

The only "John Marquette" that I have in my tree is John J Marquet and I don't have much information for him, other than the 1840 census.

http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?ssrc=pt_t3915141_...

The age for Josephus would be correct and the family is in NY, where Josephus was born (according to census reports).

Steve
Considering that "Wm S. Glenn" has 2 of the children listed twice (and incorrectly), I would disregard the 1910 death date for Martha. In addition, based on what I'm seeing in that tree, it looks like he got most, if not all, of his info from the "suefister1" tree, who in turn got most of her information from my tree. Shortly after I discovered this, and due to the fact that people were posting incorrect (and/or 'old' information that I had since updated), I made my tree private.

I have DCs for William F Marquette, but he's the only one of the Marquett(e) children. Can you send me copies of (or links to) the others?

"Elmore" was a typo in my last msg. Sort of. His first name was Elmer, but I have his middle name as being Elmore.

The marriage date you have for Elmer & Catherine (Kate) is correct, altho I've never seen Elmer's middle initial as "J". I have Catherine's DC too.

Wm S. Glenn posted the death dates for Joe & Martha on Ancestry. But people rarely give their sources so I want to see a tombstone or the Mah Co death recs before I accept them. He also has death dates listed for 5 of Joe & Martha's chn. I have death certs for 4 of the five & believe that he performed a leap of faith in claiming that Charles died in Galveston in 1914. I've looked at the rec & it doesn't give a birth location & the birth date is 9 yrs too late. I found who I believe is Chas' wife marrying a 2nd time in 1909 in Mah Co. Wm had no info for your Elmore/Elmer. But I found where Elmer J. Marquette marr Kate McGraw on 18 Sep 1883, Mah Co. I also have her death cert, died 23 May 1909 Struthers, Oh. None for him.

You say "I just realized that they were living in Youngstown in 1880 & Josephus supposedly died in 1893. Martha supposedly in 1910. She's not in the 1910 census."

Right, they were in Youngstown in 1880. According to the city directories, Martha was a widow in 1893. And you're right, she's not on the 1910 census. Is that how you determined that she died before then, or do you have more info?

As far as I know, Elmore is the only Marquette brother to move to PA.

I have no information on Josephus' siblings (if there were any). I have this in my notes on his (possible) father:

see John J Marquet
stevemtnoadded this on 29 Sep 2010
could this be Josephus' father? http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/3915141/person/1054048183 The age for Josephus would be correct and the family is in NY, where Josephus was born (according to census reports). His children say he was born in Michigan on more than one census report. Which is correct?

Youngstown City Directory 1889-90
stevemtnoadded this on 19 Sep 2010
Josephus is not listed in this city directory page 466 (Image 269 of 416 on Ancestry)

I have no info on Josephus' mother.

Martha Barr also had a sister named Elizabeth (b. 1821), possibly married twice (last names Martin and Cox)

She was in Poland on the 1850, 1860 and 1870 censuses.

More later...

Steve

Steve

I don't have a whole lot of time right now, I can response in more detail tomorrow during the day.

My Marquette line is as follows:

Mary Gertrude Marquette (my father's mother) > Elmer E Marquett > Josephus Marquett

I'm a OGS member too, altho I haven't had much of an opportunity to use the membership yet.

I don't have anything showing them living in Lowellville, just Poland twp.

Who's Henrietta? Who's your friend - any relation?

And what's your name? :)

Talk to you soon,

Steve Marshall
stevem@thenightowl.com

I can talk during the day tomorrow too, if you're available.

Steve,

They may not have been buried in Lowellville, but that's the area they lived in before moving to Youngstown. Lowellville is on the Mahoning River SE of Youngstown, abt a mile north of Rt 224 in Ohio & less than 2 miles west of the Oh-Pa border. I just realized that they were living in Youngstown in 1880 & Josephus supposedly died in 1893. Martha supposedly in 1910. She's not in the 1910 census. But there is no death certificate for her in Oh either. So did she move over the border into Pa with another one of her children & die there or was it a case that the doctor didn't turn in the death info to the county?
It appears that Martha owned the boarding house at 314 North Ave in 1900.
I'm not related but have been doing some research for a friend. We are planning a trip to Lowellville to search in the cemetery there some time after the 4th. The Mahoning Co Chap OGS (Oh Gen Soc) has not finished 'reading' & publishing all the cemeteries in Mahoning Co yet so you can't just go to the library & look in the tombstone inscription books.
And we really need to stop at the county courthouse & look at the death records there.
Looking at the 1840 NY census I thought that there may be a slight chance that Josephus may have been a s/o Jacob or John J. Marquet in Wayne Co, NY.
Martha was a Barr & was born in Pa. Martha shows in 2 censuses that her father was born in Ire. Her mother, Elizabeth ____ was born in Pa & is shown as a widow in the 1840 Poland Tp, Trumbull Co census. Mahoning Co was formed in 1846. Pa had no state law that required a marriage license until around 1880 so it is very difficult to find that info. Martha had a brother Alexander,(a lawyer) who married, was divorced, married again & then the 2nd wife died in 1864. He disappears after that. I did find an Alexander Barr in the 105th Reg't OVI, Co. A, which was raised in Mahoning Co. I wonder if he signed up near the end of the war & was killed. Poland Tp was Trumbull Co before 1840 so those Probate records need to be checked for a male who could have been Martha's father. I've checked Trumbull Co marriages & not found Elizabeth & a Barr who 'fits'. So I suspect that Mr. Barr came to America & married Elizabeth somewhere in Pa.
Hope this helps a little. If I find anything more, I'll post it.
Which Marquette do you descend through? Henrietta descends through Charles (1850-bef 1909).

Death certificates were not issued in Ohio until Nov 1908, but the counties began to keep death records around 1868. They would be found at the county courthouse in the Probate office. The doctors were suppose to report the information but that frequently did not happen.
I believe that Josephus & Martha (Barr) were buried in Lowellville.

His parents were William Albert Marquette ( sometimes Markett) born Ireland? and Hannah King born in York County Ontario they were married August 24 1869 in Southbranch, Alpena County Michigan. Hannah was my Great grandfather's sister and has long been a mystery to which we are only just starting to unravel so any information is greatly appreciated.

Regards.....Lawrence

looking for death certificate info for Josephus and Martha Marquette

I'm hoping you'll be able to help me locate death certificates for my great-grandparents, Josephus and Martha Marquette.

I don't have a whole lot of info to share with you but here is what I know. Josephus and Martha lived in Youngstown as late as 1889-90 (according to the Youngstown City Directory). By the Youngstown City Directory 1891-92, Martha is listed here, Josephus isn't. No mention of being widowed. In the 1893-94 Youngstown City Directory, Martha is listed as widowed. Martha is listed as a boarder and widowed on the 1900 US census (in Youngstown, OH). That's about all I know.

I saw online that the Youngstown Dept of Vital Statistics has Youngstown city death records from 1892 thru Dec 20, 1908. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any way to search by last name.

Can you help? Thanks....

Steve Marshall
Hi, my cousin did part of our family tree & the only information I have on your guy is his name is Francois Marquet De Bordes, born 1806, Carthagene, Columbia, South America. Married Jan 8, 1830 In Thibodaux, LA under the name of De Bordes to Henriette Bourg, d/o Joseph Bourg and Marie Aucoin of Plattenville, LA. All of their children were christened under the name of Marquette. I don't think we're kin to the explorer, though.

Olive Marquette was my husband's great-grandmother, and she married Albert Odett. They were from Blue Earth, MN. After her husband's death, she moved to CA to live with her aughter Cora and her husband, Henry Mann. I am interested in any information you may have. I wish I had more to help you. I am interested in learning all that I can. I also just recently (today), came across a large family photo that was taken in California at her 100th birthday party. I wonder if your husband or his family might be able to identify some of the members. Thanks! Barb Eidel

Mabel Winn lived by herself outside of Warren in later years and I have a picture of her when she was in her 80's. Her children came and took her to Penn. where she died and is buried. Some of her children live in Pa. I have some notes scribbled down on her but would have to dig for them. I don't know much about he Brown family yet, I am sorry to say.

Josephus Marquett (born 1823) was my 2nd great grandfather. I'm doing reasearch on this side of the family now. I have quite a bit of information, but of course am always looking for more.

A copupe questions to start with:

Does anyone know when Josephus died? The Youngstown city directories all list Martha as widowed (even if Josephus appears on them with her) as far back as 1893-94.

What is the correct spelling of Mary Ellen's maiden name - Foust or Faust? I've seen it spelled both ways.

Does anyone know the names of Josephus's parents? I now his father was born in France, but that's all I know.

Thanks in advance to anyone who replies,

Steve Marshall

The situation is this, I was given some personal items of his by a family member of mine. The items were won in a poker game sometime in the past 25 years in Wichita, KS. I would very much like to see these important items returned to the family of Mr. Marquette.
Any help in this matter is greatly appreciated.
Zeero
Hope you get this, had to send twice as an error occurred with my connection.

Frank may have been in Kansas at some point in the last 15 years.
I ask that you provide a middle name, place of residence in 1946, and any other info if possible so that I will know I have the correct family.
Am hopeful of returning these important treasures.
Thank you for your help.
