Chester Mariott born in Kentucky

I am trying to find information about Chester Mariott who married Amelia fields (b. 1846 in Indiana). They had a son William Marriott(Marietta) born april 1867 in Indiana. William married vitula stewart on 27 aug 1891. He was raised by his grandmother, Mary fields montgomery (from Ohio born 1821). william and vitula (tula) had two children, Lois C (born 1896) and Wallace C (born 10 Oct 1893). Wallace is buried in the National Cemetry in New York.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. My Mother (daughter of Lois) has passed away and so has her brother.

I was born a Marriott and I believe I'm related to the Sutton in Ashfield Marriott's via Richard Marriott (1688) down through Abraham and then John.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who was wondering about who Elizabeth was. I think her maiden name was Burgess, and as a widow she was a Marriott, so obviously, her father would not be a Marriott. I haven't seen much of anything about her marriage to Mr. Bishop. I have her listed in my family tree as Elizabeth Burgess. Please let me know if you find any other information.

Chances are that 11 years later you have already solved this puzzle. If not, here are some clues.

I believe that Mary T. Wright was Mary T. Mariott, daughter of John A. Mariott and granddaughter of William Newton Mariott and his third wife Nancy Ann Edmonds. At this time I do not know who the mother of Mary T. Mariott was.

William Newton Mariott was the younger brother of John Thompson Mariott who married (second) Mary Matilda Shadrick, my 3rd great grandparents.

You will find that Mary, her father John and grandma Nancy have moved north of Arkansas into Barry County, Missouri.

William Marriott purchased a tract of land in Baltimore County MD. on Dogwood Rd.(Alberton)in 1793. In his will he left this land resurveyed to his wife Sophia, & his children Rachel,Elizabeth,Ann,Sarah,William,Emanuel,Joseph, & Joshua. I am a descendant of William thru his daughter Sarah,who married William Upton & I am very interested in any relative connections to this family.

If the "Old Stone Chapel Cemetery" you refer to is Mt.Olive M.E.Church on Old Court Rd. In Baltimore Co. MD. then I descend from the same Marriott line. My ancestor was Sarah Marriott who was a sister to Joseph. If you confirm this same church info. I have some info for you.

I have info that J. T. Marriott and Mary Matilda Shaddrick have a daughter
named Mary b. 1842 and she married W. S. Wright.
Possibly Mary passed away and W. S. Wright married Tennessee??

grandpa sidney frederick marriott (with the hw many gr8s b4 that)was married to Caroline M A Cumberlege,who ws born in the yr 1870,Cape of Good Hope,South Africa and died before 1901.

they were married in 1890[St George Hanover Square,London,Middlesex.]
they had a daughter named Pauline Grace Marriott ,born in 1892 and died:Dec 24th 1954.
She was born in Fitz,New Zealand n christened in Paddington,England.

I have James Marriott b: Oct.25,1776 at Ann Arundel Maryland to John & Rachel Ann Homewood M: June 11,1808 A.Arundel to Sophia Duvall who was b:june.1784.. You have James b:1788 so I wonder if he was ch: then or a 2nd James the first James may have died young. Also there is some discrepancy as to whether James 's father was John or Joshua as I have them both marrying Rachel Ann or Anne Homewood. I am not sure if this is of interest to anyone researching the Marriott family in Australia. I have an old photo of Mrs C Marriott and family Bumpton? BRIGHTON Victoria. This photo probably connects with my grandmothers family as her grandmother was Catherine Bonner (nee Marriott Watson) who lived in Scottsdale in Tasmania. I'm searching for ancestors of my Grandfather John Clifford Marriott who left London for Australia in 192?. He was 19 years old. His father was John Marriott, last of Upminister Essex, brother Donald, also Upminster and sister Rita, Hampstead. Their mother and father lived in Camberwell and Dulwich - Henry Marriott and Ellen (?). I haven't been able to trace back further than Henry Marriott but would love to do so. Can anyone help?

I am looking for information on William B Marietta or Marriott born in April 1867 in Indiana and married Vitula (Lula or Tula) Stewart 27 Aug 1891. He appears on the 1900 census but is not in the picture in 1910 census. His parents were Chester Marriott or Mariott (born in Kentucky) and Ameila Fields (born in Indiana). William was living with his Grandmother in the 1880 census (Mary Montgomery) not sure if this is paternal or maternal. William would be my great grandfather.

I don't have much on William:
Born Dec 5, 1783 Long Clawson, Leicestershire- Died Jan 4 1819 Married to Rebecca (no other info on her). Son Thomas was born 1813 and died 1887. He was married to Jemina Elizabeth Mary? born 1814 died 1878 and they had a son Henry in 1840. My source was an IGI file some years ago.

Thanks. The Henry Marriott family has befuddled me for decades. I got so confused on Henry's lines at one time that I just had to shut off the computer. Our cousin in Newmarket did a lot of research on the Marriott's - perhaps he has the answer. Will let you know if I learn anything new.

Just found that there is a marriage between a Alice M SMITH and a Thomas PARRY in Mansfield in 1930.

That is the year that my Alice Marriott PARRY first appears in North Wales so sent off for the Marriage Certificate.

Derek...in my files I have Eliza Marriott b: to John & Mary Ogrady in Ireland no definite date. I think John m: Mary Ann WAGSTAFF in Warshre 1844 & she may have died about 1858?? Then he went to Ireland & met Mary OGRADY had Eliza & then came back to Hull Yorkshre England???? Perhaps they never did marry??? All speculation ofcourse. If you could get a death certificate for M.A.Marriott nee [Wagstaff] in Warshre. or Eliza's birth certificate in Ireland might help.

Pam yes this is confusing because I have 8 ch: born in Edmundthorpe Leicshre which could be the most accurate. And 5 born in Oakum Notts??. Of the 8 in Leicshre there is 2 Ruths of which 1 died young, The 5 in Notts ie: Florence,Mary,John,Mina,Sarah Ann, could be a double up because my info has no birth dates for these. Father's name is listed as John only for the 8 in Leicshre William John in Notts, mothers name Ruth ASHTON on both lots. I have been studying the Marriott's[ & all other spellings] for 30 odd years & log all data I find, I have no room in my system for where & when I find the info.I can't verify if it is correct. The Henry is incorrect because the husband of Mary EXTON was born 1833 in Notts. My Error there Sorry. Betty Marriott

To the 1st wife he had Charles abt.1654 who m: Eleanor Evans

If I understand right, you have listed two Johns, two Sarah's and 2 Ruths. Is this right?

I have John E. married twice - 1) Mary elizabeth Randle 1848-1873 - they married 1865 in Plymton had one child Florience 1870 and 2) Electer Catherine Cook b 1856 - married 1874 in Petrolia, Ont. 4 children: Pearl, Lafeyette, Loutie, George.

I have Henry Marriott born 1842, died 1851 in England. do you think they had a second Henry, also.

I have Mary born 1851, married to Henry Albert Randall in 1870 - they had 6 children.

What are the sources for most of your information?

Yes - I am very interested in the children of John & Ruth (Ashton) Marriott. I only have 8 children
Mary 1841; John E. 1845; William John 1853l; Sarah Ann 1839; Mina; Isaac Newton 1856; Ruth 1849; and Henry 1842.

would be interested in more details on these as well as names /dates of the other 7 children.

Isaac was my GGrandfather.

Joanne ... I have your John George Marriott born in the East End 1881 to William who was a butcher in the East End of London. Perhaps William came from Italy before 1880. To John & Ada I have Albert b:1904, William 1905-6,Jack 190?,Ernest James b: Jan.26.1913,Frederick b:1916,Lillian b:1920,Ronald b:1924,Cyril b:1926,Eric b:1928...who were the other 2 ch: They were the first Pearlies of the East End. Kathy..in my files I have a John Charles Marriott born abt.1837 in Nthshre who married Mary GOUGH he died in 1878 I don't know if he was a baker, or who his parents were but he is about the correct age. Hope this helps..Betty Marriott

I found the birth certificate (I think) of Agnes in a place called Mansfield near Nottingham.

Hello Steve,

Her maiden and married name was Marriott. She married Jonathan Septimus Marriott in 1915? in the US. He was a cousin apparently. He was the son of Joseph Marriott and Margaret Simpson. Born 1886 in Durham?, England and came to US in 1887. Any links you can come up with would be great.

Hi Kathryn,

I have traced my mother's family (Marriott) to an area called Radford which is near to Nottingham. There is a Kate Agnes Marriott on my family tree. There is also a Thomas Marriott born in 1881 with an Ancestry hint saying Philadelphia.

The Marriotts worked in the cotton and lace industry around Nottingham.

Was Agnes Marriott your grandmother's maiden name or did she marry a Marriott?

I will do some more checking.
