I am interested in any and all information regarding the descendents of Rafael Marron, both LA and San Diego. My grandfather was born in Los Angeles in 1887. His name on his Baptismal Certificate was Anthony Martin Marron. His father was Jesus Marron and his mother was Lucinda Brown. I was told that Jesus Marron was a son of Juan Maria Marron and Felipa Osuna, but I have nothing but oral family history.

Any information you might have, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Anthony Whittley

I've been doing more research on the Marron name in Ireland. there are a number of Marron families in County Monoghan. There are more vital records being put on line in Ireland. Some are free. You can find these by searching on "Ireland vital records free". One site that is NOT free is the Irish Family History Foundation. to view a full record there costs 5 Euro.

Happy hunting!
Patricia

Marron/Maron families California & Baja California 1760-2012

I have this wild idea of eventually getting together descendants of Rafael Marron, soldier, 1760, San Antonio, Baja California Sur., somewhere in California, most likely San Diego (since I am from there and there is a BIG family of Marrons in Oceanside). I am a descendant of Juan Marron & Maria Elena Carrillo Mayoral (b. Baja Sur 1800, 1810) and want to start a "list". The San Diego/Oceanside Juan Maria Marron family is one big offshoot.

My Juan Marron (and family) came up thru Baja gradually, living in (1840) El Rosario, Baja Norte, leaving Ygnacio (oldest son) to found that group of El Rosario Marrons, Jose del Rosario (family in Santo Domingo-San Telmo area), and my ancestor Juan Marron, b. 1834, San Antonio, BCS, in Los Angeles by 1853 where Juan & Elena settled (having spent a little time with the Oceanside Marrons!!). Son Juan married Juana Blasa Morales in 1856 and their daughter, Maria de los Angeles Marron, b. 1859 is my ancestor.

Juan Marron (the older) & wife, Elena, had 13 children-Ygnacio 1830, Juan 1834, Jose del Rosario 1840, Refugio 1845. Maria del Rosario 1847, Paulino 1849, Gertrudis 1850, Francisco de Sales1851-all born in Baja California, and Jose Alberto 1854, Maria Julia Crescencia 1856, Julio 1860, and Francisco Reyes1862-all born in California. In March 2012 there will be a 1st informal very mini-gathering of descendants Juan Marron (the son) & his wife, Juana Blasa Morales in the Fresno area.

I have just located Julio Marron (settled in Arizona 1882?) who married Clara Woolsey and hope to hear from those descendants.

If you know of anyone who might be related to the above families I would like to be contacted. I have met many of the El Rosario Marron descendants over the years on my trips thru Baja and hope to tie things all together some day as I "ain't getting any younger!". I spend much time doing genealogy (over 30 years) in Baja-for some reason Baja California sang to me long before I ever had any hint that my ancestors were calling for me from there!!!!

Teddi (aka BajaMuleDiva)

I haven't checked this board for awhile. I am still researching California/Baja California Marrons and presently hoping to put together some sort of a Marron/Maron reunion/gathering....The Marrons I am interested in are descendants of Rafael Marron, soldier, Baja California Sur, 1760. This would include the Marrons of San Diego Co. and the Los Angeles Marrons of 1860+ (Juan Marron & Maria Elena Carrillo Mayoral-both born Baja Sur 1800, 1810). If this could be passed to other Marrons/Marons (of early California/ Baja Ca.Spanish-Mexican descent not Irish).

I will check this board soon between trips to Baja California where I have been retracing the footsteps of these ancestors via a mule up the peninsula to what became the state of California.

Regarding the Marrons of San Diego and Los Angeles-its all one very BIG and confusing family!!!!! Eventually I hope any confusions as to names and dates is straightened out.

Also any descendants of Baja Marrons-especially Ygnacio Marron b. 1830 La Paz, died El Rosario, BCN (m. Petra Pellejero-parents of the El Rosario, Baja norte folks-I would like to get you in also!

I also have Marron's in my ancestral line and learned recently that County Monaghan has a number of Marron families. Have you checked U.S. census or death records for any indication of where in Ireland they might have come from? Also, birth records sometimes have that information.

Happy hunting!

Patricia

My relative if Frank Marron he was Owen's brother and returned to Ireland and bought a farm in Shercock Co Cavan another brother James returned to Ireland and became a priest and eventually a Canon of the church he died in 1962.
Hi Jane,
If you are still out there, I also have information about Marron's--possibly the same family--in Leadville, Co. I know of a Marron family whose father settled in Clinton, New York probably around the famine. His eldest son Michael went to Leadville about 1863 and his son Joseph, born in New York about 1851, joined Michael about 1874. Joseph because a deputy and then sheriff I believe and was murdered in 1878 by the leader of a horse-thieving gang named Creamer that he had previously arrested. I don't know if his brother is the same Michael Marron that later testified about his brother Owen's murder but all the brother's names cited are in the New York (Potsdam, Clintonville, Port Henry) and Vermont Marron families that I have been researching. (Interestingly, my great-great uncle by marriage--Phillip Marron of Port Henry, NY-- had an aunt in Ireland who was a Finnegan.)

Actually, let me retract that ... after further research, I'm further confused ... my GG Grandmother is Leonor Marron, she is listed though as Eleanor Durant in some of her children's obits. Another thought she could have been born Maria Leonor or even Maria Leonora Marron, marrying John Durant (France) though one suggests he was Juan Durant b. 1862 Spain. I know his son spoke to my Mother in French, and she was told her GG was French ... regardless ... back to Leonor ... another said it could have been Mary Marron, daughter of Matilda Ames and Juan Maria Marron ... the 1841-1927 born one. How can I be certain? I need the full and complete names of her parents, as well as her correct name, to obtain the birth cert or death cert., but if I just had the names, I wouldn't need the certs!?! Catch 22 and I'm sure others are having difficulty as well.
Does anyone know for certain who Juan Maria Marron 1841-1927 is? His parents, his siblings? Many are confusing this Juan Maria Marron with others on their trees when the dates don't coincide. Maybe this is partly why they can't source it w/attached documents.
I'm wondering if everybody just gave up bc a majority of these posts are from early 2000 ... with the exception of mine and maybe a few others.

Mike Arroyo,
I do want thank for the infromation that you have provided. From conversations that I've had with my father and my uncle, it almost indecate's that your great grand mother Lucia Marron might be my grand father Domingo Marron Venegas, born around 1901 and died 2001.(Rosalios Marron son from a differnt marriage.)one of his oldest 1/2 sister. They have mention some of the sister's and brother's names and they defenitly match the names on your list. example:Juan, Delfina, and Micaela. Know, they also mention other sibilings not on your list like Nativida and Pabla and also mention of another unknown sister who lived in San Pedro. It was definitely a big family between the different marriage's. After leaving San Agustine it seems like the family scared. Like, I mention before Rosalio Marron was married more than once and my father and uncle only remember their uncle and aunt Juan, Delfina and Micaela. Jaun Marron One of Rosalio's oldest; had 3 daugther's, Blasita, Cuca and Carlota Marron who should still be alive some where in either Brisenas(the "n" in Brisenas is a "ene")Michoacan or La Barca Jalisco.
Delfina My Gf Domingo's half sister and daughter to Rosalio Marron was married to a Mexican Marine and moved to and beleive to still be there, El Carmen Campeche Mex. Has a son name Jasinto Zamora Marron. I hope that some of this info. can further help you. Leonardo Marron
Mike
Appreciate the information that you have provided. Much of the documentation I been able to collect mentions San Agustin & La Barca Mexico. My father Jose Felipe Marron ( deceased ) was born in San Agustin. His parents my grandparents were Melesio & Margarita Zavala. As a youngster I remember my grandmother but never met my grandfarther. My father grandparents were Perfecto Marron & Trindad Godinez. Have to check with my mother about the names you mention on your note. She may be able to establish a connection. I found interesting that some incident might have cause the Marron family to move northward.
My brother has been La Barca & says that he met alot of people name Marron. We have plans on revisiting La Barca in the near future to see what information we can collect. Once again thanks for your comments. Johnny Marron

Mike Arroyo,
Thanks for your information, it turn out very useful. I contacted my uncle Jose Marron Gutirrez, my Garndfather Domingo Marron Venegas second oldest son. it turns out that he has had lots of information which connected, real close to yours, for example he mention his Grandfathers name was Rosalio Marron(which was married more then once.) along with other stuff which I found to be interseting. Some of the stories he was sharing with me connected me with family in San Agustine Jalisico, where according to his resoources is where most of the Marron Family came from and do to an family incedent, we were force to leave the town of San Agustine. He mention that there's also family located in Jamey Jalisco, Tijuana, El Carmen Campeche and another boarder town by Texas, also the state of Texas. Who knows there might be some connection or just a close coincidence. Thanks aging, Leonardo Marron

not sure though they could be back one generation. I have a marron family in carrickmacross ireland father James Marron and mother Catherine Finnegan. They had twelve children Peter, Mary, James, Teresa, Ann, Margaret, James Patrick, Patrick, Edward, Thomas and Lizzie I'm not sure who the last child was. 7 were surviving at the time of the 1911 census and a grandchild William living with the grandfather James now a widower and daughter Mary, probably a son of Mary who was unmarried. I do know for definite of a story told of a canadian relative visiting Peters son (my grandfather) one day and mention of a service uniform this would probably have been during the war I think.

I have an Owen Marron that was killed in Leadville, Colorado on April 10 1893 by James Fennigan. There is a lot of information about both men from the local newspaper and the trial that followed. James Fennigan and Owen Marron were neighbors and friends (also possibly related) in Ireland where they grew up together. Owen had brothers named Terrance and Thomas (twins), Patrick, Peter, Michael and James. They also had a sister Margaret. There may be more siblings. Their parents names were Thomas (Tady) Marron and Atty Maree according to Patrick's death certificate. Any connection?? Maureen
