John Herbert Marsden Born 1850/4

I am actually researching my grandfather Ernest Harrison. In the 1891 census he was 11 and living in Lindley with Quamby - Yorkshire with John Herbert and Mary A Marsden. I believe they were his uncle & aunt. Grandpa came out to Australia in the early 1900's and Marsden is the second name of some of his children.
I am interested to know why he was living with the Marsdens and their connection to our family.
There is also a connection to the Cousins family.

Clifford and Joe would have been born in the early 1900s.

March 1940 an Aunt (probably a Marsden) may have lived at this address: Morningside, St. Paul's Road, Fairhaven. Lancashire (Blackpool area)

I'm hitting nothing but road blocks with the very limited information I have on this family.

I greatly appreciate all the information! Could I ask a favor, could I be invited to see your tree to obtain birthdate, death dates, marriage dates? Or, at least, could I have that information for Robert, Agnes, Elizabeth & all the children. Please let me know if the marriage date of Robert & Agnes I have is correct, October 1, 1801 in Clapham. I can't let you know how you have made my day with all this information. Also, Roger married, Elizabeth, "Betsy" Metcalf, her father was Thomas, and I have a list of her brothers/sisters, but I do not have a mother's name, would you have this information. I will invite you to see my tree as well, if you like, I have no pictures of Roger/Elizabeth, I do have cemetery photos, and pictures of Roger's children. Have a lovely day!

Hi
Richard, Roger and James were sons of Robert Marsden, a carpenter, and Agnes Walker. Sadly Agnes died at age 28 and Robert remarried to Elizabeth Barker. They had 3 children, Mary Eleanor, Thomas and Francis. James became a carpenter like his father and married Mary Rigg from Hawkshead. He moved to Hawkshead after that.
Mary Eleanor was a witness at Roger's wedding as you probably know.
Both I and my relative with the tree live in England.

:) You have made me very happy. Roger is my 3rd gr grandfather, his son James was the father of Louis Lester, who was the father of my mother, Myrtle. I do have his death date that I obtained from the St Charles directory, however, the cemetery has no record of him being buried there, yet his wife, her father, and a lot of Millington/Marsdens are there. I obtained his marriage certificate and now have the names of his parents and the brothers, would love other information!!

As far as I know Roger died in St Charles 19 July 1864. He had 3 other children James, Jennie and Thomas.
I know about the Marsdens but all the other stuff comes from my 2nd cousin who has TreeOne on Ancestry website.

Wow! I just found out a couple of years ago that the Rev. Samuel Marsden is an ancestor of mine from my NZ side. My brother has Marsden as his middle name, which is something my 'kiwi' kin have kept as a tradition. The link is from my fathers side BUT.....& this really 'spun' me out, my Mums side are New South Welshmen. My grandfather built his own home in.....Parramatta & I was born in Parra. I was christened in 'the Revs' church & the land that grandad built his house on once belongedto the` Rev. Talk about awesome freaky links! Next time I go to NZ, I plan on visiting the very spot where he gave the fist ever sermon to the native people. I'm pretty happy to be distantly related to such an interesting figure in Aussie & kiwi history!

Email me at Lfrezza43@gmail.com and I can give you more info.
Thanks,
Laura

Hi Caren,
I came across your tree and noticed that we may have a match. Bannister Marsden is my great great grandfather. His grandson Clarence is my grandfather. I have been researching this line for a little bit and haven't found too much. I was told my grandfathers mother, Helen Flint was born in Tewksbury MA. I went a few days ago to the Tewksbury library and sadly came out with nothing. Wondering if you had any additional info you could share.
Thank you,
Laura

Arthur Marsden, Louis and Virginia Travia?

My grandfather's name is Arthur Donald Marsden. I was told his father's name was William Marsden and his mother's name was Emily McCord Marsden. However, when I looked at my mother's baby book it has his father and mother listed as Louis and Virginia Travia. I've asked my aunt and my uncle, with no response. I have been unable to find any information on William, Emily, Louis, or Virginia. My mother was born in Philadelphia, and I know my grandfather was born June 4, 1930. I have checked census records for 1930 and they were all done prior to his date of birth. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

George and Wilmot Marsden are buried, with an historical marker, in Jewell, or West Vienna, Oneida County NY. It is on the north shore of Oneida Lake, on state route 49 in the town of Vienna.

If their graves were moved from somewhere else, I do not know the earlier burial site.

Hi everyone - I'm also descended from George and Wilmot Marsden, through their son William and Sarah Waring Marsden, and their son George and Eliza Page Marsden, and their son Franklin and Charlotte Kelso Marsden, and their son George and Cora Richardson Marsden and their son George and Bertha Bice Marsden to their son John, my father.

My lineage has been accepted by the DAR for anyone who wants to validate their research on this line.

In regards to GGrigg522's receipt, I would rather see it donated to either the historical society of Mexico, Oswego County NY, which has quite a bit of Marsden info, or a historical society of Oneida County NY. This keeps it available to the public, rather than put in private ownership where it is less likely to be shared.

Could a copy of it be posted or emailed to those who are interested?

Hello,

It is possible that my Marsden line is related to yours, although I don't know how far back. Our Marsden line is from Wigan also.

My direct relative was Alice Marsden (born in Wigan 1839, death is registered on the rolls for Wigan & Leigh, 1865).
She married Thomas Laidlaw (1835-). She was the daughter of Nicholas Marsden and Ellen Higham. Her siblings were:

James Marsden
1827 –

Jane Marsden
1832 –

Thomas Marsden
1835 –

Mary Marsden
1836 -

Ellen Elizabeth Marsden
1841 –

John Marsden
1843 – 1923

Margaret Marsden
1846 –

Isabella Marsden
1847
We believe their father Nicholas to have been the son of Thomas Marsden, Thomas Marsden born abt 1780.

Please contact me if any of these names are found to tie in with yours.

Thank you!

Tara Laverdiere
Portland, Maine
You've identified most of the significant contradictions in the Marsdens' information. The historical marker appears to be a bit of a "brag" by the locals. The best resource of info that I've found is Kenneth L. Marsden's "George Marsden - Revolutionary Patriot; His Family, Friends & Descendants", (New Rochelle, N.Y., 1961). Research in Leeds has not enabled identification of George's parents. Marsden was a common name in the area and no documents zero in on his origins. The best info I've found for Wilmot is her birth in Pepperal, Nova Scotia, on 21 Jan 1757 , to Edward Lee and his wife Ann.
I recommend that you consult the aforementioned source for additional information and background.

I am not connected to this family, except that my brother has the original receipt from Richard Marsden to the ancestor of my sister-in-law who helped move George Marsden's grave in the 1850's. My brother is seeking the appropriate direct relative to potentially give this to them. I do not know if this affects any of the messages I have been reading about what is posted at the grave. Which grave? (I posted it on another thread but this may apply to these questions as well.)

I have been working on updating this 1914 book for over 20 years and have built up a copy containing much more information than the original, but I have not come across these dates before.

I have attached the updated section of this part of the document, which you may find useful.

The main part of your post relates to a George Marsden tree; you don't mention where this tree was obtain from?

Regards, Phil.
