hello Martins- I have noted your request for info on the Azore Martins-- Now! I have no idea of this ifo is iof use to you- but here it is-- Our Martins come from South Amrmagh,N.Ireland and from Northern England-apart fom my own GrandfatherPatrick- 1844- 1945-we know nothing of his brothers andf sisters of who there were several-we do'nt know where they went to-- what is for sure is that the Christian names are very familiar names in our family today-you have caught my curiosity with your queries-- -
Is this information of use to you-- have you noted and Irish connection in your relatives--?? I too would be interested-- I have Patrick's relatives traced to about 11761- which for Ireland's records- is something of a 'scoop'- do let me know if this infor is of use to you- and good luck in your search. It's Intriguing!!!!!!!!

Martins Salvado family

Hello,
I am an American searching for my father's family in Castelo Branco, Portugal. His name was Jose Alvez Martins and he was born around 1896 in Castelo Branco. His mother was Maria Martins Salvado. I have recently found a letter from 1933 from Remete Martins Salvado. On that letter is a postmark stating CORRO E TELO. I don't know what that means. Also on the return address is Luinta das Bolas which could be a parish or street. My father worked as a seaman on the ship JC Donnel and docked in Philadelphia in 1921. He was 25 then. I would really like to find a long lost Martins Salvado relative.

Anne
msolarz_734@yahoo.com

Many Zachariah Martins

Don't despair. Thanks to Frank Jackson Martin and my late grandmother Retha Jane Acree, his distant cousin, we have a Zachariah Martin born 1690 Virginia, related by DNA to Abram 1647 and John 1685, making this Zachariah a probable son of Abram. We have my grandmother's ancestor Zachariah Martin Jr. born 1729 Virginia, died 1805 Chatham, NC (we have the will). You also have Zachariah Jr.'s brother John Martin 1710 who had a son named Zachariah born around 1732 whose son Zachariah was born in the Carolinas around 1760 and who relocated to Louisiana where his son Zachariah was born in Nachetoches around 1790. My maternal Martin line is said to be from Abram, but my grandfather Zachariah Martin born 1888 Franklin County, Georgia to Darrel Andrew Martin and Julia Kesler Martin, is the husband to his distant cousin Retha Acree, granddaughter of Mary Martin, daughter of James Martin Jr., son of James Martin Sr., son of Zachariah Martin Jr and wife Rebecca Brooks. If you are from the Texas or Louisiana Martins, please find a male Martin and compare him to the DNA of me (Andrew Ayers Martin) or the other members on group 21 Martin on FTDNA, where I also retested. I am double descended from Zachariah 1690 and am also descended from Abram to John 1690.

POWE/MIA Korean War, MARTINS

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Hampden County, MASS. as his home of record. His remains were never recovered. Our government has no family contact at this time for this soldier

Soldier: JOHN MARTINS
Born: 24 June 1930
Date of loss: 1 December 1950

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (79years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
Hi Walter I dont know whether you got this already but here is a loosely translated version of what Andre said:

Hello to all, For the exchange I am the first Martins to answer of Portugal! To the best of my knowledge and belief, Martins (along with other finished Portuguese names ending in " s") it means son of Martim. In turn, Martim has Latin origin (probably proto-Roman) and means, coarsely, " Guerreiro" e " Nobre". Establishing the linking with the Roman God of the war, Mars. However, névoas of the time olvidaram more given concerning this name. They observe, also, the clientele of Algueirão-Mem Martins. The Martins name, according to Rui archaeologist Oliveira, probably originates from the name of the medieval knight who liveed in this region that Martim Escorso was called. Consequently, the name will be able to also come from the nickname of the children of this knight who had also lived in this region that they called " Martins". PS: Without a doubt that highest probabilities of terms will exist sanguineous affinities! With the best compliments, Andres Martins, Geógrafo

Thank you Twinkleberry alias Heather. I have worked with you before.(Not as Twinkleberry though) Found the graves for Martin Martins and Eliza Martin in Kadina and tried to contact you but my e-mail bounced back, so went through the genealogy society up there. You have given me more detail on the children though.Thank you very much
Under Oatey there is heaps on the net and it is the correct family line as the marriage of these 2 are in it.I am now planning to come to Adelaide in Oct to go up there and see where they lived and worked and see threir graves.
I only have one big question mark now for family that went there, Grace Gribble nee Polkinghorne died just after her daughter Catherine was born in 1844 in Burra. Grace is my gggrandmother and I cant find a registration of her death anywhere

Hi Val, I have just made a hole in my brickwall with my Martin family firstly found it is spelt Martins so his name was Martin Martins and he married Eliza Oatey in 1844 in Phillack Cornwall went to Australia on the 'Baboo" with 4 children and had a further 10 in Australia so 14 in all. They worked in the Copper mines in South Australia and both are buried at Kadina which was where their son William Bowden Martin (he dropped the S) married my ggrandmother Catherine Gribble this 2 eventually came to NZ. So do you see any connections here to you
Thanks Patricia

Marie C. Martiens (Martins/Martens), she was from Caprucke, Belguim. She came to the US in 1910, via Liverpool. Also I am looking for any information about how long people normally stayed in Liverpool prior to coming to the US. I know that she was born about April 1889-1891. Sorry for the wide year. I have different sources saying different years. I know she had a sister named Clara who had married a Van Durme in Belgium prior to moving to the US.

> sorry I can't help you with your Catherina. I have a Julius Martins b. ca
> 1845 in Meseritz W. Prussia. I wonder if there could be a connection

I guess there is one. The problem with your response is in the second line. There NEVER EVER had been a place with the name Meseritz in the province of Westprussia.

There was one village Meseritz in Schievelbein county in the province of Pommerania

There was one city Meseritz in Meseritz county (city was county seat and name sake for county) in the province of Posen. The Meseritz county bordered directly on the Brandenburg province, actually was part of the Brandenburg province 1938-45. The Westprussia province was also very close, just two counties away.

I hope that you have corroborating records to figure, which of these two Meseritzes would be yours, as the one you have in your records did not exist. At least, the geographical reference of it gaving been located in Westprussia is wrong. You may want to check my claims at either http://www.kartenmeister.com (a Canadian website) or at http://www.literad.de/regional/ortsbuchme.html (a German website)

Other than that: Good luck on your research
