Hi, my Grandmother was Ruth Emma Mase who married Ernest Bastian Yoder. I also have been doing some research and came across Darryl Mase names. Can't figure out who was his father and I also found out he lived in Hornell, NY; which is where I live and he also died here! I also came across Milton Mase and can't figure out who his father was. We are decendents of William Mase and Violet Ridge.

There was a Joseph Mase in Arnot. Here is what I found on the net.
Mase-Grover
At Arnot, August 24, 1883, by David T. Evans, Esq., Mr. Joseph Mase, of Arnot, and Miss Nannie(Nancy L.) Grover, of Ithaca, NY. (Tuesday, August 28, 1883, The Wellsboro Agitator, Wellsboro, Tioga Co, Pa.) Also I found on the same sight I found where there was A Frank Mase that married a Sarah and they were form Ogdensburg, and 2 children were born to them. Florence b: 5-10-1896 & Jesse b: 10-16-1893. It also said Joseph Raymond Mase was born to Joseph Mase and Nancy L. Mase 6-30-1893. I also remember something about Darrl and Abe Mase but I can't find it right now. I am related to Mase's In Liberty and doing ancestry research on them from Liberty PA.
Do you know if any of the JOHNSON or Mase/Mace/Mays lived in the Whitehaven/Whitehorse, Tennessee area? The Walter S. JOHNSON I am looking for information about was b. 1878, served in Spanish American War,Infantry, Co.B,Tennessee Volunteers (documented).
He went to St. Louis for the World's Fair, met a local girl, stayed and married her (KERN).They had five children.
I thought with the story that his Mother's name was MAIZE ( my spelling) that proved she was Nat. American until I started to look and found the other spellings.
2nd Infantry was made up I've been told by Native Americans and Afro-Americans. So perhaps he is one or the other or both cultures.I DO NOT KNOW HIS PARENT"S names at all.
Sorry I can't be more helpful.
Deborah

Finley,

I happened to be doing some research and came across your name and Carolyn's reply. If you are Rena and Larry's son then I remember you when I was a boy, visiting your home with my mother Nancy (Carolyn's sister).

Anyway, I was trying to find the origins of the Mase name. I have heard anything from Dutch (do they mean PA Dutch/German) and have found that name in the Netherlands. I've also seen that spelling for both Japanese and Italian names but am quite sure that our ancestry is neither. I did hear that it may have originally been Mays but was changed a few generations ago to Mase.

Any info would be appreciated. In any event, it would be nice to hear from you.

Finley:

FYI. My grandmother (Nancy Mase) told me several years ago that my grandfather Darrell's grandmother (not grandfather) was a full-blooded native American. She remembered her and about all that I recall her telling me was that she had long flowing black hair. My mother (Nancy) did tell me the tribe that she believed she was from - if memory serves me correct I think that she said Choctaw but I can find out from her if you are still interested. Did you see the posting on this website from the woman who spoke of a Mase relative (woman) born probably late 1800's to 1900 who was Cherokee (same person?)? If you would like to contact me directly you may at rehabproviders@aol.com.

Teresa,
Thank you for your response to my message.
My father always believed his family came from England, however I cannot seem to make a connection. It is more probable the ancestry is German and they may have traveled through England. He settled around other german families in Tioga Co., PA.
The only thing know for certain about my oldest positive ancester is William, b. about 1796, place unkown for certain. mar. a Violet Mary Ridge. Settled in Tioga Co. PA about 1823.

Have you any further thoughts. Thanks for your interest, and best wishes in your pursuits. Thanks so very much.

Esther Mays Harer

Dear Vernon,
Thank you for answering my post.
I have researched the Mase/Mays line for many years and I have never been able to obtain much information on Joseph Mase/Mays descendants particularly.

However, I went to school in Blossburg and sometime ago I remembered there was a Mase family in Blossburg, however, they left before I was old enough to really know any of them. The one I remember a little bit was Sharon I believe. Although she was older than me.

My grandfather, father and uncles also lived and worked in and around Blossburg.

If you don't mind my asking, who was your grandfather, and would you be willing to share information on your family, etc.

If you are a descendant of Joseph, I was able to obtain a copy of the family bible were Joseph's birth is recorded.

My father is Stuart Mays son of Benjamin who was son of Charles Samuel, who in turn was a brother to Joseph. My father was never able to help too much as his mother died while he was very young and the children all stayed with different families.

I am always trying to find more Mays/Mase'.

You may e-mail me at emharer@epix.net

Thanks again,
Esther Mays Harer
