Hey Colin, I have a couple land records that have Luke as land owner and 3 other Mastersons living there I'm guessing they are Lukes sons... Michael,John and Edward... with Cavan that was what my mother remembers her grandmother(Mary Ellen Masterson) saying....she lived with her in the 30's.Do you have a name for Lukes wife??? Marcella Cavanaugh???I also have some of them in the royal navy.

From colin_masterson@hotmail.com

Mike, I got a copy of Edward's marriage certificate and I think he is almost certainly an older brother to my G Grandfather John Masterson. The occupation of Luke as attorney's clerk also fits with what I know about Luke. I suspect that Edward was renting in Back Georges Rd when he got married. There is no Masterson shows up in the 1861 census for that area. However, it's just around the corner from Tebbutt St which is where Ellen was living. Also, in my G grandfather's marriage cert (1864) he does not state that Luke was deceased so you may be right that thhis was not true.
Can you drop me a note an d let me know what Edward's brothers names were and how you know he was born in Co Cavan Ireland.

Regards,
ColinM

I'm researching the ancestors of Thomas Masterson who founded Mastersonville, PA. He was born in 1777 and came to the US from Bruse Hill (Bruce) in County Cavan in 1795. I have a complete history of him and his descendants after he arrived in America. I am looking for more information on his parents, Thomas and Catherine. Thomas also had three brothers, Andrew, Lawrence and Bernard. I have a letter from Bernard's grandson, Terence, dated 1900 that confirms the family was from Bruse Hill. Any information you have about the Mastersons of Bruse (Bruce) Hill will be appreciated. Joyce Masterson

Hi Mike,
Thanks for your recent email. I'm well thanks. I still have the email you sent me a long while ago and have read that again with your recent note. I think there could well be a match to my side. I got stuck myself last year after I visited the Liverpool records centre. However, your note has inspired me to do some more digging to see if I can see a definite link. I'll get back to you soon.
My email address is colin_masterson@hotmail.com
Regards,

The Joseph Meredith Masterson I have in my tree, is Julia (Juliet) Amanda's brother, and son to Joseph Masterson and Elizabeth Thompson. I show him born in 1829, died 1915, and married to Barbara Ellen Peake. I think I found somewhere that his father's middle initial was "E", possibly for Edward.

There are a bunch of Hagans in my family tree. Do you have Ann's email address? If so, could you get her in touch with me either through Ancestry or my email at: thmanor1(at)comcast(dot)net? Thanks

Scott

I will.

My Zachariah is the son of John Masterson and Sarah (surname unknown). There was a John Masterson, son of Edward (your line I believe) who married a Sarah Tobin.

From everything I've found, the majority of the Mastersons that ended up in KY came from PA and settled in the Pottinger's Creek Settlement with Samuel Pottinger.

My line went from KY to Indiana, except for Joseph E. Masterson, son of Zachariah, who remained in the Nelson County, Kentucky area. There are many Mastersons still there.

I haven't looked up a Masterson Family Society, but will check into that.

I've just started researching this branch of the family. The one thing I have noticed, no matter what Zachariah people are researching, they give them all the same birthdate. It took a bit of digging on my part to figure out that the Zachariah who married Anne Simpson wasn't mine. It was only when I found that Zachariah's death date, and the fact that Anne remarried, that I realized he wasn't my Zachariah, since mine didn't die until 1829. Geesh.

Scott

Scott: When you talk to your lady friend again, will you ask her if she has found the emigrating Masterson? I seem to think that I once saw an indentured man who was a stocking maker that came about the time ours might have come and was the right age. The 'authority' that I mentioned it to just pooh-poohed it. There isn't anything wrong with being descended from an indentured servant, for heaven's sake.

Can't remember now if there is a Masterson Family Society or not. As I mentioned, our line goes back to Edward Masterson who married Mary Lindsay about 1730. Wish I could go back with someone into England for that family.

My guess is that the Zachariah's were related. In fact, there were three Zachariah Mastersons in KY around the same time. Mine settled in the Pottingers Creek area, as did many other Mastersons. I'm in touch with a woman who has been researching this line since the early 70s. She's going to get me what she has on the Zachariahs. It'll be after the first of the year. I'll post again once I review the info.

S

Have you ever found that the two Zachariah Mastersons are related? The one that married Anne Simpson married into a line of ours, the Simpson one. We have a direct line to an Edward Masterson who married Mary Lindsey in VA in circa 1730. Their daughter, Elizabeth, married Joseph Farrow and we descend from them. The Shores, Simpsons, Farrows and Champs were evidently close friends in VA and they traveled together to KY after Richard Masterson claimed preemptions of 1000 acres for each of them in KY. The families are all intermarried and I wouldn't be surprised if the Zachariahs are related. Do you trace yours back? Julia

There are two Zachariah Mastersons. One married Anne Simpson and died about 1796, prior to her marriage to Issac Cook in December of that year.

The second Zachariah Masterson married first Elizabeth Miller, with whom he had ten children (my ancestor Joseph E. Masterson is one of those children), he married second Tabitha Masterson-Brownfield and had four more children. He died in 1829 in Spencer County, Indiana.

From what I've found in researching the Masterson clan, there were many common names - John, Hugh, Joseph, and, obviously, Zachariah - which leads to a bit of confusion when trying to link to the right Masterson.

Scott Mitchell

i'm James Lee Smith, my mother is Linda F. Thrasher her mother is Virginia F. Thrasher my grand father was Charles G Thrasher. If anyone can use that info. My grand mother is supposed to be descendant of Bat Masterson, I remember her mom, my greatgrandmother was called jojo and looked Indian but I'm thinking her name was Johnny. might/might not be helpful. She had a sister who was killed in a car accident, who was a famous model, but they don't mention her, ive only seen pics. Most of the relatives i have connected to my moms side live in Eagle Lake, Texas. all of this might really help someone reverse look-up and find a missing part to their ancestry. They discuss her&him being related rattling off names, but i didn't know them and have forgotten them,it seemed like she was 2 away from him. she is still alive, but very old, if i can get any one to talk about it, ill post it. I am 100% certain she is directly related and very close as well.

my email is quillansarrows@yahoo.com I pray this will help someone fit it all together.
