Hoping to find info on my ggrandfather and ggrandmother Peter Mathias and Johanna Asmussen Mathias. Married in the 1800's in the U.S (no dates available or what state they resided). The only info I have on Peter is that he died at the age of 54 on the 10th of June. In 1898 they had a son Walter. He married Ella Claussen in 1919 in Davenport Iowa.

Johanna Asmussen parents were Friederich Christian and Helena Pauliene nee Feddersen of Pellworm Germany. They had 8 children.

Anyone reconizing any of these names and any info they can give would be greatly appreciated.

Peter MATHIAS - Hellam Twp, York Co, PA

I am looking for the connection between a Peter MATHIAS and Henry FRIED who died in 1817 in Hellam Twp, York Co, PA.

In the inventory of Henry FRIED's estate, Peter MATHIAS is mentioned under "book debts" with the notation "in advance of his legacy" behind his name. Since one of the other names listed similarly is a son-in-law of Henry, I suspect that this Peter MATHIAS may also be Henry's son-in-law.

A death record for Henry FRIED's son Peter indicates that he (Peter) was born in Bucks Co, PA. Could this Peter MATHIAS be the father of Abraham b. 6 Jan 1784 and baptized at Lower Milford (Trumbauers) church in Bucks Co?

The first record that I have found of Henry FRIED in York County is when he purchased 195 acres and allowance from George KATZ and his wife Maria Sara of Hellam Twp in Apr 1786. Could this be the Peter MATHIAS in the 1793 Tax records for Hellam Twp, York Co?

Henry's daughter Barbara married David HOKE in 1805 and daughter Anna married George WOLF in 1806, both marriages are recorded in York County. Another daughter Catharine married Abraham LEHMAN.

William MATHEUS' will probated in 1864 in York Co names his wife Rebecca and children: Joseph, Lamuel L., Elizabeth and John (deceased). He owned property in Hellam Twp adjoining John WOLF, Abraham FRIED (grandson of Henry FRIED) and Henry LEHMAN. This is most likely the William MATHEIS who married Becky SCHLOT in 1820 in York Co. Is he a son of the above mentioned Peter MATHIAS?

Any information on a Peter MATHIAS that fits this description will be appreciated.
I am looking for any information on my gggmother, Maria Catherine Mathias. Born 1848 in New Market, Maryland. In 1870, at the age of 22 she was married to John William Mathias. They lived in New Market, Maryland with a one year old child, William Henry Mathias (ggfather). Also, there was six other children in the home from William's first marriage.

I am told that Maria divorced John William Mathias. The 1870 census is the last record of Maria. My ggfather, William Henry Mathias, appears in the 1900 census for Franklin, Carrol Co., Md as being married. In 1910 he moves to Election district 1, Baltimore, MD.

I am looking for any information on Maria after 1870.

Thanks,
Mault

Parents of William Henry Mathias born York Co, PA married & died in IL

William Henry Mathias was born in York Co, PA June 22, 1856/7. I have no info on his parents or siblings. My only clues are his birth was in York Co, PA - shown on his son Hugh Melvin Mathias's death certificate, and a photograph by B W Matteson, Middletown, PA of a young boy - maybe 7-10 with a girl maybe 5-8 with dady and sister W H Mathias handwritten on the back. That means the family lived in PA with at least 2 young children at some time.
I beleive he had at least one sister, from pictures taken on his wedding day, of him, his wife and another girl, but do not have a name. He married Susanna Miles and may have lived in Forsthye, IL and later lived around Macon, IL. where their children were born. William and Susanna had the following children - Lewis b 1880, Ada b 1881, Nettie Jane b 1883, Mabel Mae b1884, Flora Belle b 1885, Hugh Melvin b 1887, Cora Edna b 1889, and Verna Edith b 1891.
Mabel ( she married a Walter Querry (died ) and later lived in Deactur, IL with sisters Cora and Verna Mathias ) had some dishes in her dinning room ( in cabinets with glass fronts ) that she said the family had brought over on the ship, but I was very young and do not remember a name of a ship nor from where - if she even said, and I do not remember her ever mentioning a person by name. My father ( died 2001 ) did not remember any names of his fathers grandparents or ships etc. when I asked him in later years, although his memory was excellent.
I am interested in any information about William, his parents, grandparents, etc as well as his siblings that anyone may have.
I am stuck when it comes to this side of my family tree and any help about William Henry Mathias and or his family would be greatly appreciated.
I can be contacted here or at MNeely@Netdirect.net
Thanks
Married in UK, about 1918-1920, to Florence Winifred Wells (known as 'Phyllis'). They had one daughter, Phyllis Joyce Lloyd Mathias. Charles believed to have returned to USA in 1920. His wife was due to join him there but for some reason changed her mind and remained in the UK. Any news / information on Charles Gifford Mathias would be most appreciated.

I am looking for information about my 6GGranparents, John and Barbara Mathias. John is shown in the 1790 census of Shenandoah County, Viriginia. John's name could be Johanne. Family tradition is that Johanne came over from Alsace-Lorraine when Germany took over the Palatine region. I know they had one son, John Jr. who married Barbara Disponet, but any other information would be greatly appreciated. I think John Sr. came to Philadelphia with his two brothers, Gottfreidt and Philip. Thank you. Diane

Researching MATHIAS family in Ohio. Have found 4 generations (Eugene Honor Mathias b:1925, Lawrence Mathias b: 1903, Honor Garfield Mathias, b: 1880, and Alfred Mathias b: 11/1837). All data from Census shows them in Sugar Creek, Dover, and New Philadelphia region. Lawrence Mathias married Esther FINZER, of the FINZER Brick fame. Alfred Mathias married one Anna Elizabeth GROSS. Alfred is listed as being born in OHIO, but Census shows father may have been born in PA (York or Lancaster area according to my father in law), and mother (unknown) being born in either OH or Switzerland. Does anyone have any information on this MATHIAS family going back earlier, starting with Alfred. Do not know his father's name. Can not find him in 1840, 1850, or 1860 Census. Have him at age 32 in New Philadelphia in 1870 Census. Any informaiton will help.
Thanks

I am looking information on John W. Mathias, my gggrandfather, and wife Marie C. of New Market, Frederick, MD. John's mother name was Eliza.

They had a son, my ggrandfather, William Henry(1869) who married Amelia(maybe Horton).

At the time of William's birth, there appeared to be six siblings from a prior marriage of John W. The children's names were Jesse, Samuel, Elizia, Eveline, John, and Warner.

At an early age of the children, the family seemed to break up and the boys appeared to be living and working on other farms around Frederick Co., Md.

William H., my ggrandfather later moved to Balto. He had five children named Alonzo, John, Gordon, Agnes(my grandmother), and Marie.

I would appreciate any information on this family.

Mault

Isabelle Mathias Baum

I am searching for the ancestors of an Isabelle Mathias, who married a Walter Baum. I do not have much information on her. Her daughter, Helen, was my grandmother's mother. I know that Isabelle was born in Ohio, as was Helen herself.

I believe Isabelle's parents are John H. Mathias and Adaline Edwards. In the Ohio birth database on ancestry.com, Isabelle's mother's maiden name is listed as being Edwards, and Adaline is the only Edwards listed in the database as having married a Mathias around the time my ggg grandparents would have been married (3 Dec 1871).

If there is anyone out there who has information regarding this family, I greatly desire your assistance. My grandmother only knows bits and pieces about her family history, so I've been having a tough time researching my lineage.

Thanks!

Teri

Stock market Crash and Mathias suicide

Hoping that someone will recognize a Mathias surname connected to the stock market crash in the 1930's and a suicide of a female Mathias member.

The Mathias/Mattice family descends from Elias Mathias and wife Catharine Young. Elias was extremely wealthy, owned his own yacht and crew that would sail the Hudson River. He also owned property in the Catskills. One of his sons was Jerome B. Mathias.

Supposedly a daughter of Jerome Mathias and his wife Catherine Rose became a very wealthy individual. Jerome raised his family in the Albany New York area then moved them to Hamilton County, Cincinnati Ohio where he took a job as an inventor at a Spring (Hess Spring?) Company. Some of his children stayed in Ohio, others stayed in New York. I believe the ones who stayed in Ohio were Jerome Mathias Jr., Harry Mathias, Jessie Jean Mathias, Peter Isaac Mathias and Pasquale Mathias. (Also, Peter, Harry and Pasquale served in the Expeditionary Forces) Peter may have married Octavia Turner and died in 1957 in Washington DC. Harry married Anna Nell Bravard and he died in KY in 1932. Pasquale died after 1929. Jerome died in 1981 and Jessie Jean died in 1980. Most of these children were born betweeen 1885 and 1905.
There were three other daughters however, unaccounted for; Marcella, Theylana and Catharine/Katherine. There was also another brother Elias. One of the daughters, Catharine, Marcella or Theylana stayed or moved back to New York. They were extremely wealthy. Family history says that when the market crashed she jumped to her death from top of a high building.
Anyone connected to this family, please contact me. I am descended from Harry Mathias.

Mathias surname

I am looking for any information regarding the Mathias family members that married into both the Davis and Lyons families from Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. From what I understand two Mathias brothers married two of Lyons sisters. The Lyons family was originally from Somerset Co., then moved to the Mt.Pleasant area. Of the Mathias men mentioned, they were Will, Dan and Fred. I have info on the Davis and Lyons families that I am more than willing to share. Thank you, Paul Colmer, Wildomar, Cal., via Greensburg, Pa.

Mathias and Dekemper in Indiana

I found this online tonight. This is my gg-grandfather, his wife and his parents!

GEORGE DEKEMPER is a son of George and Marie Magdalena Dekemper, who were natives of Germany. The father was born in 1821 and the mother in 1831. They came to the United States in 1833 and landed at New York; from there they came to Cincinnati, Ohio, and finally located in Dubois County, Ind. The father departed this life on the 27th of October, respected and esteemed by all. Our subject was born October 31, 1854, in Dubois County. At the age of thirteen he began learning the blacksmith’s trade in Jasper. June 23, 1877, he married Elizabeth Mathias of Dubois County. The union was blessed with four children: Joseph, John, George and Marie. Mr. Dekemper has a fair English and German education, and is doing a good business in the blacksmith and wagon-making trade. He and family belong to the Catholic Church. In politics he is a Democrat, and is a successful and prominent man of Knoxville.

"HISTORY OF PIKE AND DUBOIS COUNTIES, INDIANA" CHICAGO: GOODSPEED BROS. & CO., PUBLISHERS. 1885.
Marion Township
