Am looking for information on Rev. Joseph Matlock.

Birth 22 May 1823 in Ohio
Death 28 Sep 1888 in Madison Township, Richland County, Ohio

I am particularly interested in his parents, siblings etc. I have a fair amount of info on him, his children and life as a minister but hit a brick wall before that. Any info would be SOOOO appreciated.

Appparently he was my Great Grandfather also. My Grandpa William Stafford Matlock had a sister named Alice Lea. I remember my mother talking about Aunt Alice Lea quite a lot over the years. Porter Parks Marlock is listed as my grandpas father on his cemetery listing. My Grandpa William was married to Lenvil Ora Matlock. Sorry I don't know when Porter was born or died. I myself was born in 1962 don't remember ever meeting him.

Joab Matlock's father?

I am hung up big time and hope someone can help. My grandfather is George Matlock (1894-1951) Then it goes, William A Matlock (1858-1908) Stephen Matlock (1823-1902) Joab Matlock (1781-1852) His brother was Smith Matlock Now for the life of me I can not figure out for sure who his father is. Is it John Wesley Matlock (1759- 1820) Many folks have his dad as on of the Moore matlocks. Which by the way , there are way too many of them. Thanks for any help to put my mind at rest so I can move on.

I'm sure you know that there are more than 1 Moses Medlock.
The one who descended from Hescott/Samuel married Nancy Perryman and lived and died in Perdue Hill, Al. This is my direct line.

I am the grandson of Hugh Ballard Matlock. My father is John Hugh Matlock, born the day Hugh died, 5 Jul 1935. Myra Jane MAtlock was my great aunt. I never met her, and we lost contact with the Matlock side after Hugh died. Instead, I got to know my grandmother's side, the McGann family.

I have been trying to get information on my biological chain, but finding anything past Hugh has been a challenge to say the least.

Kind of an old thread but, I'm also descended from William Taylor Matlock thru dau Cornelia Eliza Matlock. Have no actual proof but am quite sure William's father is John Matlock of Union CO., IL and other info on 1840 and 1850 census'. Has anyone else seen this?

The Minerva Hill in the Supreme Court testimony was a former slave owned by John Hill. She and "Aunt Ginny", the former slave owned by Obe Matlock, were friends and visited often.
The testimony of my paternal gg grandmother Lottie Hill Evans is found on pages 90-93. She was a daughter of John Hill.

I am from the same Matlock family as you. We are distant cousins. I know there were two Minerva's. My great, great, great, grand mother was Minerva Matlock and she was married to David Alexander Young. She was the great, grand daughter of Moore Matlock which was one of the sons of Obe Matlock. The older Minerva was her great, aunt.

My Minerva sure looks Indian in her picture and my grandma told my aunts that she was part Cherokee before she died. I have had numerous people say that my mom and sister looked Indian a number of times. They had dark, brown hair and brown eyes. There was something about them that made you wonder if they were part Indian. I have green eyes and medium brown hair like my dad did.

There are very few pictures of Matlock descendants from way back and I feel lucky two have found two photos dating way back. My g,g,g, grand mother was born in 1835 and her older brother John Milton Matlock was born even earlier but I have their two pictures. I will attach them. We are in the same family line.

I'd just like to say that I am a Moore Matlock decendant. My great, great, great, grand mother was Minerva Matlock that was born in 1835 around Roane County, Tennessee. I have a good picture of her and she looks Indian. My grandma said she herself was part Cherokee, Indian. I will add her photo. She is the daughter of James Jason Matlock, Jr. and Elizabeth Betsey Hicks. Note: Moore Matlock's brother Charles Matlock also had a daughter named Minerva Matlock too.

That Supreme Court testimony has been my primary source.
I descend from the Mattocks on my paternal grandmothers side and from the Hills on my paternal grandfathers side. My gg grandmother Lottie Hill Evans was one who gave testimony in the Supreme Court case.

I found this on Google books: "Records and briefs of the United States Supreme Court, Volume 174 By United States Supreme Court" has the Chickasaw Nation vs. Andrew B. Hill et al. On pages 51-53 is testimony by Minerva Hill, approximate age 90, on March 27, 1897 in Overton TN about Obe Matlock and his wife (who was one half Chickasaw), their son Charley Matlock. She testified that Charley married Bettie Lynch and their children were: Obe, Minerva, Pollie, Annie and Geter.

I am descended from Moore Matlock Sr. (1730-1812) of Roane Co TN and his wife Emily Jane Powell, and also from their son Moore Matlock (c. 1760-1830) of Overton Co TN and his first wife Susan Smith. My Matlock family is as follows:

FIRST GENERATION

1. Obe MATLOCK died in Overton Co., Tennessee. He was buried in at the three forks of the Obey River, Overton Co., Tennessee.

He was married to Pollie. Pollie died in Overton Co., Tennessee. She was buried in At the three forks of the Obey River, Overton Co., Tennessee. Polly was 1/2 Chickasaw indian Obe MATLOCK and Pollie had the following children:

+2 i. Charles MATLOCK.
3 ii. Jeter MATLOCK.
4 iii. Moore MATLOCK died in Overton Co., Tennessee.

SECOND GENERATION

2. Charles MATLOCK was born about 1770. He died in Apr 1819 in Overton Co., Tennessee.

Elizabeth LYNCH was born about 1773. She died about 1822 in Overton Co., Tennessee. It is said that she hung herself. She was also known as Betsy. Charles MATLOCK and Elizabeth LYNCH had the following children:

8 iv. Minerva P. MATLOCK was born about 1812.

12 i. Thomas Hampton FANCHER was born on 15 Aug 1823. He died on 28 Apr 1901 in Missouri. He was buried in Livingston Cemetery, Miller Co., Missouri.

The Minerva Matlock that you were referring to born in 1814 was the aunt to my Minerva Matlock. The older one was the sister to James Jason Matlock, Jr. My Minerva is the younger one. Which parent of the older Minerva was Chickasaw? Most of the Chickasaws were in Mississippi and parts of Alabama. Are the Matlock's Indian or the Lynches were Chickasaw? My grandma said we were part Cherokee.

James Britton McClellon Matlock was my great-grandfather. When he died he lived in Eureka, Kansas. He was around 93 I believe. I have not posted in very long time, but trying to get back into this.

My family tree of Matlock ends at Levi Matlock was born Abt. 1870. I think born and/or raised in oklahoma, since I believe his sons Sylvester and Roy were. Levi would be my great grandfather and think died around 1960ish in central california. Only 1 uncle i know remained behind in oklahoma, rest moved west in 30s is my guess. and can be found on the 1880 Boone Co AR Census. Levi registered for World War I Draft on
Sept 12 1918 Atoka Co OK. Stated he had nine children. Stated he was 45 years old. Medium
Height, Medium Build, Brown Hair, Brown Eyes. Levi died Nov 10 1962 CA (no place of death
was given).

I am interested in these two families. My cousin has traced Matlock to William b 1827 Monroe Co Indiana. I am trying to go back to TN~VA~NJ which seems the probable line. Father of William said to be George. Would like documentation and info on this line.

Also working on the Hugh Scott line. Will share info on either line.

My great grandmother is Minerva (Minnie) Wallace Matlock. Her son, Clarence, always told me his Mother was full-blooded Cherokee. Her photos reveal black hair, dark brown eyes, and dark skin. Her features are that of an Indian. We probably are not talking about the same Minerva---however, thought I might pass it along.

You mis-spelled "Indian." Minerva is my great, great, great, grand mother. She looks Indian in my picture of her. My grand mother told my aunts before she died that she was part Cherokee Indian. Minerva was born in the area where it was old Cherokee Nation in East Tennessee. The Trail of Tears was in 1838 and ended in 1839.

Everyone kept saying that my sister and my mother looked Indian. I really wondered so I started tracing the family tree. I can't find anything on paper that she was Indian but she sure looked it in her picture. I am Darlene Kunis.

I am Clifford Walter Matlock, named after the same and son to Clayton Earl Matlock and Muriel Ann (Duke). Russel Matlock was my Uncle and I never knew we shared the same middle name. Hello to all of my cousins out there!

George T. Matlock of Arkansas and Texas

I'm trying to find the parents of my Great Grandfather, George T. Matlock. He was born in Arkansas on March 27, 1870. He married Cassandra Bennett in 1898 in Navarro County Texas. They had four children: Guy Bennett, Velah, and twins Elvert Lee (my grandfather) and Elvie. He died in Wylie, Texas on December 11, 1952. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I'm hoping this will get to Marylou Murray (classychicken) who is my cousin. i am Marilyn Matlock daughter of Clayton Matlock and Muriel Beth Ralston. George and Venolia Matlock were my grandparents. I would be so excited to finally find a cousin.
