I share the same information, I am from Puerto Rico and about twenty years ago while visiting the town of Coamo I was told about two brothers (Matos) that settled in the island. I have not been able to document this yet but I am still trying. I have traced my ancesters to Pedro Matos born 1776, Toa Alta, PR.

My grandmother was Aura Marie Matos and Rosa Amelia was her younger sister. My grandmother married Robert J. Huntoon and lived in the Canal Zone. They had 4 children, Ethel, Jane, Aura Marie and Hiram. My grandmother was Ninfa Galindo/Matos. She came from a prominent family in both Colombia and Panama. Rosa Amelia married into the Boyd family of Panama her husband was a doctor who practiced in Miami.

Hi Antonio,

Francisca Morales Matos and Domingo Birriel Pastrana are my grandparents. They had 5 daughters and 2 sons. Currently the only child life is my mom Maria Cristina Birriel. Who knows we might be related in some way.

Hello Omar. My father's Name is Manuel De Jesus Perez Matos & my Family is also from Barahona...I don't know much of my father or his family either... I know his mother(my grandmother)'s name or nickname is Morita... I wonder what are the chances that we could be related somehow.

My grandfather was Felipe Maria Matos Bernier born in Coamo , June 15 or August 23, 1888, married to Juana Santiago Y Bizo, children Carlos M Matos y Santiago, Emilia Matos y Santiago, Rosina Matos y Santiago. He had a brother named Luis Matos Bernier born in August 19, 1893 or 1895, married to Felicita Purcell. They immigrated to Ponce, Puerto Rico. He had a bakery. I am looking for information in regards to who their parents and ancestors might of been or where they came from.

his name is rigoberto matos perez. i dont know my grand dads first name but my nanas name is holanda perez and they call her doña maria or madora. she has 6 children in total..

Hi my last name is also Matos...my father Ramon Matos died about 20 years ago when I was 11 years old in New York. His mother Juliana Matos and father Theodoro Santos(?)also died years ago. They were from Bani, Dominican Republic. As you can tell we got our last name from our grandmother, making it harder to trace my family members. I can say this, most of us have green eyes because both my grandparents had green or blue eyes. I live in New York and have some family in Massachusets. THATS ALL I KNOW..CRAZY BUT TRUE.

I have ancestors from Puerto Rico too. Have you been lucky in your search? It's difficult because the first census in Puerto Rico was in 1910 and it's not easy searching for people before nineteen century.

My family is from Cuba. My parents told me that 7 MATOS brothers came to Cuba from Portugal. They settled in Southeastern part around Baracoa. I'm a first generation American but my parents and five siblings were born there and have been visiting Cuba for a few years now. One of my brothers told me that we're pretty much all over the SE end of the island.

Another interesing fact about the Matos name is that its of greek origin. If you notice greek surnames, the vast majority of them end in -OS.

The town's name is Corozal not Porozal. Corozal is a small town in the center of the island, near Naranjito an Toa Alta. In that region the surname Matos is very common. My name is Juan Matos Prado but I'm from San Juan (in the north) and I don't have family in Cuba.
