Margaret L. Maxwell b. 1864 married William J. Reynolds

I'm trying to find some information about the descendants of a Margaret Maxwell who was married to Rev. William J. Reynolds. She was born in NY in 1864 and is buried in Killingly, Connecticut. Who were her family of origin?

She had 2 sons, Maurice and Maxwell Reynolds. Maxwell married Irene T. Bush and they had a daughter Barbara and a son who died young. They appear in the Royal Oak, Michigan, directory for 1933 and were still in the Detroit area in 1945, but I lose track of them at that point. Maxwell worked at Pontiac as a car inspector. Does anyone know what happened to this family?

Thank you for your help.

Looking for Caitlin E. Maxwell who is my niece. Grandparent Dr. Charles E. Maxwell. I have not seen you in years and miss you so very much. You and your mother lived with me while I was in college. I have absolutely no contact with your biological father and haven't for many years. I miss your beautiful blue eyes and dark curly hair. I now have three children of my own and have been happily married for 18 years. I used to call you my little Caity Dee. I would just like to know that you are okay and everything is well. If you ever need or want for anything, it's yours. I just want you to know that you are still very loved and thought of.

T. Maxwell & Eliza Bryant Maxwell 1850, Decatur Co., GA

The 1850 Census, family #440, enumerates T. Maxwell & Eliza Maxwell (whom I know to be Eliza Bryant Maxwell), plus ch: Daniel, May, John, Newton, Moses, & George. Does anyone know, with a source, the parents of this T. Maxwell? I'm fairly certain that he is one of the descendants of Thomas Maxwell & Mary McPhail Maxwell, from Sampson Co. area of NC, but can't establish his parents, although I've seen a couple of different possibilities. Thanks.

I would absolutely love any history on George Washington Maxwell that you have. So you said that they were all living in El Paso until about 1950? My own father was born in El Paso in 1914. In an Athens, Texas newspaper article dated July 21, 1927 it states the following: " Mr. and Mrs. Sallie Drake of Healdton, Ok. and Mr. and Mrs. Robe Fulton of Barry, Texas are visiting their sisters, Mrs Lee Bright and Mrs. Maude. Holiman." This is the only reference I have to the Ok. Maxwells. Joe

JG Maxwell was my Great Grandfather and Lula May Maxwell, his daughter was my grandmother...know to all as Bobo. There were three children, Lula May, Ralph, and Thurn C. as stated on a 1910 Census. Lula May later married my grandfather Thomas Rayburn Bowles and lived in Temple, Ok. We don't know too much about Lula May's family only that she was raised by her Uncle Ben. If you have any information in regard to where they lived and what there life was like I would appreciate your input and help. And, if there is anything I can help you with, please don't hesitate to ask. Thanks, Teresa Bowles Harrison

Maxwell-Yax wedding announcement

I am transcribing articles from our local newspaper archives (Scotia, Nebraska):

The Scotia Register
Volume XXXIII, Thursday, September 29, 1927, pg. 1, column 3
MAXWELL-YAX
On Wednesday morning, Sept. 28, a quiet, but pretty wedding took place in the Sacred Heart church at Greeley when Miss Ethel Maxwell became the bride of Mr. Leroy Yax. Rev. Father Feeney officiated.
The bride and her attendant, Miss Jesse Jess, were becomingly attired in blue suits with harmonizing accessories. The groom wore the conventional black.
Both of these young people are favorably known in this community. Mrs. Yax is the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Maxwell. The groom is a nephew of the Halpins and makes his home with Will Halpins.
The many friends of this young couple extend to them the heartiest of congratulations.

Julie Middendorf
mjmiddendorf@nctc.net

She is a Descendant of W P Houston (1826-?) & Sallie Maxwell via their dau Amanda Jane Houston (1856-1914) who married John Dillman Cline and in turn their Dau Viola Sallie Cline (1885-1988).

In the Marriage records of Bracken Co it reads "William P Houston & Sarah (William) Maxwell, bond 21 Sept 1851, Marriage 30 Sept 1851" so certainly she was the Daughter of William Maxwell. There was a William Maxwell who lived in Bracken Co 1n 1850, but Sarah is not listed in the household. I expect whe was working as a Domestic somewhere and name listed incorrectly so difficult to find. William was listed with his 2nd wife Eliza Ann Snow and they married in Bracken in 1841. We find Eliza Ann Maxwell again in 1880 in Gallatin Co KY, with children so that William was alive at least until about 1863. I cannot find them in 1870, but 2 of the children married in Switzerland Co IN in the 1860's.

Eliza Ann Snow b.1823 KY was the second wife of William Maxwell and they married 4Dec1841 Bracken Co KY and apparently had children William, James, Augusta Ann and Nancy (1sr 4 found in the 1860) and also Thomas & Mary E (Found in the 1880 Census of Eliza A Maxwell in Gallatin Co KY). I am unable to locate the family in 1870 but it is likely they lived in IN of KY with the names written or transcribed quite differently.

Hello. I just read your post. I am from the Maxwell line in Whithorn, Wigtownshire that includes William Maxwell and Agnes McDowall. I can find information back to some of the information on Elizabeth Dickson's marriage to William and then I'm stumped. I have a cousin in New Zealand who is related to this family through Dunlop Maxwell and both of us are trying to complete this line without much success. Does this fit into your family information at all?

Thanks,
Debbie Evans
Pennsylvania

My husband Donald H. Maxwell was born in Clearfield, Pa. and then brought to St. Joseph's Orphanage in Erie, Pa. in 1930. When the orphanage closed in Erie, we obtained his birth certificate and found his mother's name to be Kathleen Maxwell and father's name to be Dominic Cimino. I have always tried to find a family member from the area he was born but to no avail. Oddly enough, without knowing, Donald married a girl named Kathleen Maxwell and our birthday is the same day but 5 years apart.

Hi, have you found anything on Jennie Maud? I can't track her either. My grandmother's father's father was Julius Smith. According to the family lore, Jennie had an affair with a salesman and ran off leaving Julius with the 2 boys. Julius divorced her. She asked to come back, but he said no. That's when I lose her. According to my grandma's notes she had 2 brothers & 3 sisters, no names except for 1 brother who was killed on the railroad:Ernie. Can't track him either. Jennifer

I was born Angela Maxwell to Robert Maxwell (born in Cupar, Fife 1941) and Anne Whyte (born 1944). Im doing ok with my mothers side of the tree but can't get any further past my father (Robert Maxwell). I have no idea of his parents names only that there from Cupar, Fife. Have you come across any info for a Robert Mathieson Maxwell born 08/10/1941??? Any help would be greatly appreciated..

Thanks,
Angela

Diana Maxwell Ledsworth Smith

I am trying to find information on Diana Maxwell, b 1852 in Watford, Lambton County, Ontario, d 1876, probably in St. Clair County, Michigan. Her parents were Hugh Maxwell and Eliza Craig, who moved from Watford, Ontario to Applegate, Sanilac County, Michigan around 1868 with all their children.

Diana's first husband was Wesley Sylvester Ledsworth (many possibly spellings of all three of his names, sometimes called William, Wisley, Vestry, Leadwirth, etc...) He was probably older than five years greater than Diana when they married on January 1, 1869. They had a son, David Leadsworth, in June of 1870 and were living apart later that year when the census was made. In Oct of 1871, he remarried Ann Young in Canada and moved to Rochester, NY where he lived out his life.

Diana's second husband was Charles Lorenzo Smith, son of Charles Fisher Smith of Port Huron, Michigan, who she married in 1874.

After Diana died, David Leadworth was raised by Diana's parents, Hugh and Eliza Maxwell in Applegate. Charles Lorenzo Smith remarried in 1878 to Nellie T, who died in 1940. Charles Lorenzo Smith died in 1919. He is buried with his two wives, Diana and Nellie, in Section F of the Lakeside Cemetery in Port Huron, Michigan. All three stones match, and were probably put up after Nellie T Smith died, by Charles and Nellie's children.

If you know anything about Diana's history, please get in touch with me. I can't find Diana on the 1870 census in Michigan or Ontario. I also don't know what she died of at age 24.

I'm interested in another William Maxwell, born 1828/1830 in Down. In 1861 he and his wife Sarah were living with her parents Barney and Sarah Fullen and her brothers Michael and Barney Fullen in Hetton Le Hole, Durham, England. On the census, the Fullens all listed their birthplace as Trone, Ireland. William and Sarah had four children, all born in Durham: James (1855) Michael (1857), Catherine (1858), and John (1860). All that is from the 1861 English census. There are also christening records in Durham. They all settled in Steubenville, Ohio in time for the 1870 US census.

James married Rosa/Rosie Ann Wynne on Christmas, 1876. She was born in Thornley, Durham and christened in a Catholic church. Her parents were Matthew Patrick Wynne and Ann Gibbons. On the 1861 English census, they listed their births simply as Ireland. In Ohio, James and Rosie had six children in Ohio: Sarah d 1959, William Bartholomew d 1933, James P. M. d 1915, John Matthew d 1959, Joseph W d 1934, and Annie d 1910. (Joseph W was my grandfather.)

Does anyone know these folks? Or have any clues to their lives in Ireland? Or any clues to their arrival in the US?

Thank you.

Madeline Maxwell

Actually there are ten cemeteries named Evergreen in New Jersey, but none are located anywhere near where William H. Maxwell died. I suspect he may be in New York and I was hoping that someone in the Maxwell family might know exactly where he is.

Bob

PS: FYI, the Evergreen Cemetery in Hillside is often listed as being in Newark or Elizabeth, but it is not. There is no Evergreen Cemetery in Essex County.
