My cousin Andy Mayhew posted some pictures of papers that His dad, Vern Mayhew, had gotten from Voilet Mayhew, my grandmother. According to them Voilet's dad is Albert h Mayhew
1863 sept 30, mother Welthy mayhew 1879 aug 16. He also has the marriage license for Voilet and Howard. They were married on Nov 14 1922. Look up Andy Mayhew on facebook. From Chesaning Mich, Born on September 22, 1970. In his "mobile photos" he has pictures of these documents.

Mayhugh Brothers Laban, Fielding, John, Oscar, & Quisenberry connection

Descendent of Charles Edwin Mayhugh, son of Susan J Quisenberry & a "Frank Mayhew", born 11 Jan 1862 in Missouri. Hit a brick wall with Charles and who his father was. We know that Susan's sister married Fielding Mayhugh, (Mary Frances) and, that for a time, their other brother Laban D. Mayhugh (jr) was living with the Quisenberry family. Frances T does not marry Betty Elliot until he is older, does anyone happen to have any record or knowledge that he might in fact be the father of Charles? Soon after Charles is born, Charles(Eddy)and his mother are back living with her parents and she is listed as Quisenberry until she remarries Hudson, in which she is listed as Susan Mayhew. I also cannot find Susan anywhere in 1860. Any help would be appreciated

In the 1870 Missouri Chariton Township 55 Range 20 page 13 the Mayhugh brothers are all listed together, John T & Oscar A living with their widowed mother Priscilla Freeland (written: Bresdia). Labon is married to a Francis T and they do not have any children. I think this is a mistake and Francis T is actually his brother Francis. Millie (born 1871) might be Francis' daughter because Laban and Ora did not marry until 1874. Does anyone have any evidence for any of this?
Hi, I have a Rita M. who married a Keith R. Mayhew; son of Karl M. Mayhew Sr. and Blanche E. Todd. Blanche E. Todd is a part of my Todd line. I do believe Keith was a preacher. I'm not sure if they moved outside of New York, for they're buried in the Evergreen Cemetery in Canton, St. Lawrence Co., NY. I don't have a death date for Rita, but I have that she was born in 1930. Let me know if we're talking about the same person.

I came into an original official document from Costa Rica dated 12/10/1974 that involves William Henry Mayhew and Lilliam Virginia Mayhew. I don't speak Spanish, but Google Translate helped me piece together that it appears the couple is divorced or divorcing, and there was some sort of dispute concerning their minor daughter, also named Lilliam. There's a reference to Miami so perhaps one or the other spouse lives there. I would be pleased to forward it to a family member if anyone has any interest.

Children of Harold W Mayhew & Florence Poole

Looking for the children (or further descendants) of Harold W. Mayhew & Florence Poole.

Harold was born in 1918, died 1981 and is buried at Ft Bliss Cemetery in El Paso TX. He married Florence in the 1940s-1950s (had been previously married to a woman named Trina, and had adopted her son, Norman), and adopted Florence's two daughters. They had a son, William C Mayhew IV, together. Harold was in the Army and they lived many places, including Europe. They eventually divorced and he went on to marry at least one more time. I have no further information on the family.

Harold was the brother of my grandfather, Roy. The two brothers were not close and fell out of touch after their father's death in 1965.

I have since inherited many old photographs and objects that came from my great-grandfather's estate, including many that belonged to Harold during the time he was married to Florence. I would like to be able to give the items to a descendant who would be interested in them.

Would be interested in any information anyone may have. Or of where I can look for more research.
Melissa

Does anyone know anything on my Granfather who at the age 28 emigrated to Canada, hoping for a better life and when he was settled he would send for his family. As I understand he did send for them but my Granmother decided not to emigrate. On the 3rd August 1923 he sailed on the Canadian Pacifics Steamship "Marburn". Embarked at Glasgow and bound for Quebec and Montreal. His occupation is down as Harvester?

Re: Mayhew in Va.

The name of her book is Descendants of James Mayhew of Prince George's County, Maryland, by Helen M. Handley (June 6, 1917 - December 6, 2008) who passed away a year anda half ago at age 91. It was privately printed but you may be able to find it in a library, though a lot of the basic facts can be found online at Rootsweb. Cousin Helen's first husband Mr. Flegel was a direct descendant of Gov. Thomas Mayhew of Martha's Vineyard but our line traces back to James Mayhew of Prince George's Co., MD. (1700-1742), as Wes's chart and Helen's research showed, son of John Mayhew Jr. and great-grandson of Reynold Mayhew.

Yes, the line as given by Wes McDaniel on Rootsweb is correct, according to the postings here:
http://genforum.genealogy.com/mayhew/messages/534.html

James Mayhew, b. 1790 VA m. Nancy Lewis b. 1800 VA dt. of George Lewis and Nancy Young 8 Jan. 1821, Bedford Co. VA. James d. Aug. 1855, Bedford Co. VA. His death certificate names his father Reason Lucas Mayhew and his mother Mary Woodford. There was another James Mayhew (apparently Moses Mayhew's son) listed as the son of Reason Lucas on pages 17 and 36, but the death certificate proves the other one was in error. That was the family of the late Miss Eva Mayhew who wrote another book, BRIDGES TO THE MAYHEW PAST, which also had the incorrect information on that James Mayhew, and Helen Handley had gotten information on her family from Eva. Mistakes like that are easy to make, of course. I was thinking there was another error, too, in Eva's book and Helen's, on the family of Alexander, another brother of Reason Lucas Mayhew, but can't remember now.

This gedcom traces your line (Bertram Orville Mayhew to David Bragg Mayhew to James Thomas Mayhew to James Mayhew who married Nancy Lewis)
http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&d...

http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=PED&d...

The source cited is the 1988 edition of Helen Handley's book which shows James Mayhew (m. Nancy Lewis) as the son of Reason Lucas Mayhew of Bedford Co., VA. and Allen Co., KY.
About 10 years ago Helen Handley revised her Mayhew book yet again and substantially changed some of Reason Lucas Mayhew's family but I don't recall whether it affected this James Mayhew or not. There was one son of Reason Lucas who turned out to be a nephew instead when other records turned up that clarified things somewhat. It may have been Alexander. I don't remember exactly what it was as my line is through Reason Lucas Mayhew's brother John Love William Mayhew.

Children of Frances P. Mayhew and Basil (Bazley) Curtis

I'm trying to find out where the children of Frances Perennial Mayhew (1846-1922) and Basil Curtis (1836-?) ended up and if there are any other descendants. Basil and Frances were born in Illinois and married there. Their children who I am researching are Frances (born 1863), Harriet Elizabeth (b. 1867), Harrison L. (b.1877), and Maggie or Mary M. Curtis (b. 1881). Frances and Harriet Elizabeth were born in Illinois, and Harrison and Maggie were born in Fort Scott, Kansas. They sometimes went by their middle names.

Their other children were Richard Henry, Robert Uriah Douglas, and James Mason Carl Curtis (my great-great grandfather). I can track these sons through the census records. Frances P. Mayhew was the daughter of Henry and Elizabeth Mayhew.

Thanks in advance for any help.

They did not think they had to be sealed to a prophet before their husband. Not every woman was sealed to a prophet. However they sometimes chose to be sealed to their husband for time only and to the prophet for eternity. This was before the time the Church came out and told people to be sealed only to their own families. This was a choice she made. The Church does in fact have a marriage to Brigham Young recorded, performed on 8 May 1870 at the Endowmwnt House. This was before the death of Brigham Young - He was there with her for the marriage sealing and you cannot have a marriage sealing without getting married!

On the 1850 census she is Mayhew, in 1860, Lydia Farnsworth, and in 1870, Lydia Young.
She died at the home of her daughter Caroline and she, most likely, gave the info to the newspaper. "Mrs. Lydia Young, a wife of President Brighan Young" and "she has lived more than a year longer than her first husband, Mr. Elijah Mayhew." Clearly she and her family thought of her as married whatever the legality of it.

Do you have the record/date of her sealing to Elijah and sealing to Brigham?
